earlier somebody pointed out that the writings of "locke and demosthenes" from ender's game are basically a blog. it just now dawned on me that peter's blog exists in real life

the internet's anonymous leading light in anti-democratic, anti-enlightenment ideals is Mencius Moldbug

the original blog: http://unqualified-reservations.blogspot.com/
someone else's index by topic: http://moldbuggery.blogspot.com/

it is fuckin awesome that we basically live in the cyberpunk future, where governments wage secret computer wars and anonymous figures post volumes of reactionary polemic

Literature is not exhaustible, for the sufficient and simple reason that no single book is. A book is not an isolated being: it is a relationship, an axis of innumerable relationships.

More like a novelization of something that only got a pilot and never saw the light of day :) Total trash, but I got them for 99p apiece and at least got my eye roll muscles a workout.

i feel so much better about the horrible thing i'm writing on and off right now because at least it's sort of vaguely original and not literally the plot to an fps game

you should try working for a publishing company and having the sometimes job of reading through the unsolicited manuscript pile, it really makes you feel like a genius

also it's depressing because you keep hoping for a ray of sanity, much less a truly great thing, or an even marginally good thing

i used to have a friend who was a small-press comic book publisher and she would have get-togethers where everybody would help her go through her slush pile and share the "best" ones. if you think it's bad for manuscripts, now imagine the terrors you discover with unsolicited comic book pages sent to a publisher with a nonspecific target market

also i assume you've read "slushkiller" already?

also, this reminds me of helping my brother edit some straight up porn for a local 'zine

it had an ok twist at the end and got published i guess

i had to actually talk to him about some of the problems with the writing and my suggested fixes and just eww, had to drink quite a bit in an attempt to forget all the :shlick: material there

makes me wonder for the sanity of who or whatever approves gross goonporn for amazon

i forgot to mention that she published porn comics too, which made the slush pile even more hazardous

on the other hand some of it was loving hilarious, and this was before digital art was so common, so it wasn't so easy to find that kind of spectacular incompetence

full disclosure: i haven't seen the theatrical cut either but these youtube clips don't make a good case for it

Wikipedia posted:

The 1982 American theatrical version released by the studio included the "happy ending" but with the addition of Harrison Ford's voiceovers.[1] Although several different versions of the script had included a narration of some sort, Harrison Ford and Ridley Scott decided to add scenes to provide the information; but financiers rewrote and reinserted narration during post-production after test audience members indicated difficulty understanding the film. It has been suggested that Ford intentionally performed the voice-over badly, in the hope it would not be used,[1] but he stated in 1999: "I contested it mightily at the time. It was not an organic part of the film."[6] Later in a 2002 interview with Playboy magazine, he clarified: "I delivered it to the best of my ability, given that I had no input. I never thought they'd use it. But I didn't try and sandbag it. It was simply bad narration."[7]
