I recommend it for all fans of strategic games. It is a masterpiece. Also some goony tips that aren't how to break the game.

The ai can very rarely revive its units.
The ai will target a unit if it thinks it can get the KO.
The ai can't see reaction abilities.
The ai will target the main hero more often because it know it wins if he dies.

Calculators break the game to a degree that's on par with Dragon Magic in Tactics Ogre. AKA, you can wipe out the entire battlefield on your first move when setup properly.

If you're into racing games, I've been playing the absolute poo poo out of Real Racing 3. I balked at it for a while because I heard the freemium stuff was extremely onerous, but once I actually tried it out it wasn't nearly as bad as I was led to believe. There are some timers for delivering/repairing/upgrading cars that require premium currency to bypass, but as long as you're not bent on playing it for an hour or more at a stretch you'll never need to spend money. I've put about 20 hours into it so far without spending a cent, and I'm having a blast.

The Shadow Sun got released today, which is a Western-style openish world RPG from Ossian Studios, the people behind Neverwinter Nights 2. For a game that's been in development for three years, it looks surprisingly amateurish. I can chalk up the mixed bag of graphics to them starting back in 2010, but the UI is pretty rough as well. That said, it seems to have a good amount of content, and there's no real iAP. The control scheme work well enough, but it would be tough on an iPhone screen.

1000000000, Punch Quest, PAD, Brave Frontier, Dungelot, Knights of Pen and Paper, just about any match 3 ever, Tetris, any Kairosoft if you really want to scratch the timer itch, most Puzzle Bobble clones, every solitaire game ever... there's more, but seriously, there are tons of portrait time-waste games that are less of a middle finger to the customer base than TDS.

I'm not saying stop liking something you like, or these are reasons no one should like TDS, but don't make the argument that it fills any kind of unique niche.

For portrait games that have the same level of apathy toward their customer base: 100 Rogues, Big Fish Casino, bingo games, and there's plenty of criticism to be leveled over the pricing strategy and facebook linking, but I like the Song/MoviePop games and most of the with Buddies games.

I will say that one of the things that I was just like "well done. well. done." was them inlining the ads into the news feed with the Reporter saying "and now a word from our sponsors" and it playing in the breakout box on the right. On of the more narratively seamless integration of ads i've seen.

It does have IAP money but the NG+ removes the need to pay for anything extra (also they throw bonus money at you if you don't play for a while).

The first opening battle of Panzer Corps' campaign (after the longest tutorial of all time) lasted me the entire train ride to and from work today. Managed to achieve a decisive victory over Poland on the last turn before it would have become just a marginal victory. Suffered some heavy losses though, playing on the Field Marshall difficulty. Because those units carry over and will need replacement troops, it may make capturing Norway more difficult.

drat this is a fine game. It's almost like a puzzle game in some respects, trying to find the best placement and combination of troops to open up the defenses around a city. Send in Stukas to bomb the artillery, and the flak unit next to it will batter the dive bomber. Send in ground troops to silence the AA gun and the artillery opens up in defence. Knowing when to push, and how hard, is deliciously satisfying.

The multiplayer uses the same login as Battle Academy, looks to have a bunch of specifically balanced multiplayer maps in addition to allowing the use of the unbalanced maps from the single player campaign if both parties don't mind an asynchronous force setup.

I bought Infinity Blade III last night on sale, which coincided with a major content update. That content update featured a limited-time "day one" challenge where you can take a whack at a reasonably easy (get 3 perfect parries) single-player trial (essentially a clashmob) and get a sick prize: a rare defense gem that starts at 50% (normally they start at 5% and are quite tedious to craft, and have to be recrafted to increase the %).

Thing is, the huge influx of new players yesterday made the server-tied challenge not work properly, so the word on their official forums was that they were extending it into today as well. So if you were on the fence, then decided too late, it's not too late today. For what it's worth I restarted a couple times at a couple different times of day and eventually got the challenge to work properly last night, albeit by doing 12 perfect parries.

Anyway, I haven't gotten too far into it yet, but seems worth $3 even if I have no idea why there are 2 characters to play as.

On the FFT chat. I just bought it on my iPad and it won't download. I tried the usual kill the App Store and try again, log out and back in on my Apple ID, and powering the device down and booting back up.

I get a notification when I hit the cloud download icon that I have already bought the app and it will be downloaded for free, then either nothing happens after a second and the download button reappears, or it starts and a grey placeholder icon appears on the springboard but it just says "waiting" for a second then disappears.

I realize this could be an iOS thing, so if you guys don't have an idea, I'll try over in the general thread.

Anyway, any guess on how to fix it? Googling wasn't much help.
