Ed Henry of Fox News just made it a point to get Obama to say "Merry Christmas" in this press briefing.

It goes from bad to worse for A&E -- apparently now there's a video of Mr. Duck's sermon floating around. http://t.entertainment.msn.com/duck-dynasty-phil-robertson-anti-gay-sermon-surfaces quote:"First they say, 'There is no God. Get him out of your mind,'" Robertson says in the speech. "Then they bow down to birds, animals and reptiles, and each other. And the first thing you see coming out of them is gross sexual immorality. They will dishonor their bodies with one another, degrade each other. Uh, is that going on in the United States of America? Look around. God's not there ... And boy is there some immorality going on around here. Does it get worse?" I expect the bobbleheads to double down on their defense now... in for a penny...

As someone pointed out to me, the best part is actually that Phil Robertson said (by analogy) Rosa Parks would've been happier/better off going to the back of the bus, only for this doofus to come out and compare him to Parks . . .

All in all I disliked Erickson's broadcast because he was just too all over the place. He jumped from topic to topic pretty incoherently and tried waaaaaaay too hard to mimic Rush's many on-air mannerisms. He was literally arguing with a crazy person that called in for at least 5 minutes whereas you just know Rush would have cut that guy's call off immediately and launched into a tirade about how liberalism is a mental illness. I mean, I've seen Erickson on TV and read some of the dribble he vomits out on his site from time to time but he is really un-engaging as a broadcast personality especially when stacked up to a titan like Limbaugh.

A healthcare policy is slavery and fighting it is like being Nelson Mandela. At this point I'm pretty sure there is a coordinated attack from whatever people send out the marching order fliers to right wing media groups and politicians to try and water down the history of racism and oppression by constantly comparing it to whatever boring thing is currently in the news.

Because I was driving to and from Columbus, I literally heard this on an AFA affiliate that has a bizarrely strong signal within that region. "Please, to anyone that's listening, Pray for Phil Robertson! He is being attacked by SECULAR LIBERALS for standing up for TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE" Two things. Number 1. Who the hell is attacking him? I listened to the Ed Schultz show to kind of see how things balanced out, and his reaction (and most of his listeners) was that of: "Well, He's an idiot. He has the right to say such a thing, but there's such a thing as consequences. If Conservatives are correct about the "Free Market" than the show will find a new home (if cancelled). Thus far I've not heard a single sponsor pulling out." The worst I heard was some professor calling in and calling him a "Neanderthal", and saying his POV was on the way out. Then saying how we've come along way. That's not attacking. Number 2. Guess what AFA? You're frauds. Any real christian wouldn't waste a breathe praying for some Millionaire that said some stupid comment that cost him more money. Also, Mark Levin was calling the GQ article a "Hit piece", which is hilarious because well, the author had this to say: quote:I don't agree with Phil's politics, and I have a lot of gay relatives and colleagues who would bristle at Phil's "hate the sin, love the sinner" view of homosexuality. They've had to hear that poo poo for years. But I still like Phil and found him to be an otherwise decent fellow. I think it's all right to think that, and I think it's all right to hope that whatever fuss arises out of his comments—it's happening already—will soften him a bit toward what he believes to be wicked behavior. Consider this my own version of "hate the sin, love the sinner."

What really kills me is that everyone is so fixated on his anti-gay remarks that they're completely ignoring the 1000x more despicable "blacks had it so good under Jim Crow" remarks.

Everyone knows that the Jim Crow remark was stupid, so conservative pundits are going to ignore it, emphasize the gay remark as much as possible and hope their listeners/viewers don't notice that part.

Good thing the SPLC labels them as a hate group, not that their audience would know or care.

It's station ID is coincidentally that of Sirius/XM's preset on FM (89.1.), I kind of think that's done on purpose in attempt to get Truck Drivers to tune in. Here's what they were saying earlier this year, from a post I made a long time a go. FuzzySkinner posted:-A message for how standing up for "Traditional Marriage" (AKA denying people normal basic human dignity) is the equivalent of when Abolionists stood up to slavery. There was an ad for a study done by the FRC/AFA rambling on about how there was a study done on people being "Denied religious" freedom, and showing where to go for the report online. I want to find it really bad. Honestly it was frightening to listen to because I think if..(god forbid) fascism ever found a way to take hold in this country, I think I saw it's face, and it was terrifying. e: Forgot to add, they had an entire segment I listened to once about "Creationism", some museum, and I believe Ken Ham was featured.

They believe that because homosexuality is a sin America is being punished for its tolerance of gay people every time something bad happens.

Someone needs to ask Beard Lord for his thoughts on how black homosexuals were treated under Jim Crow. Also, I think a clothing line called J. Crow might sell really well down there on the Bayou.

All kidding aside, and there have been some funny posts about this Duck dude, but gently caress if this story isn't depressing to watch unfold. I really, really think that right wing media is winning the messaging battle and controlling the narrative more and more every day. I mean, we joke and kid about it here, but even what little conversation I was able to overhear while dining out alone tonight eventually led me to get up and leave. Anecdotal for sure but gently caress if it didn't ruin my appetite. I shudder to think what news is going to be like by the time my son is old enough to watch or listen to it.
