What animal do those lungs come from anyway? I don't think they're the right shape to be human (and that would somehow be more creepy anyway).

They are your lungs, actually your lungs, brought back from the not-too-distant future. In said future, they have found a way to remove lungs without otherwise damaging the victim. Sleep well!

I learned a new trick yesterday. The trailer of Desolation of Smaug in gif form, by taking just the I-frames ("keyframes") and applying the proper delays to them so that they appear at the time they appear in the trailer: It's kind of poo poo, but I tried and it does sync up with the trailer on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPVWy1tFXuc I'll try making a less lovely version later.

Shuffle posted:burning Mercury(II) Thiocyanate The first gif contains burning Mercury (II) Thiocyanate, but the orange powder initially lit is Ammonium Dichromate. The heat of the reaction from the Ammonium Dichromate initiates the reaction in the Mercury (II) Thiocyanate and makes it look like Cthulhu rising from a volcano. I tried setting up a larger version of what's in the first gif but my university's chemistry department didn't have enough of either reactant for it.
