Speaking of tracks, IMS for RF2 is coming along nicely: http://rfactor.net/web/rf2/screens2/wipscreens/#12241 The BTCC Honda is due to be released on or before Jan 1st. Not far behind are the Cobra 427 and the Panoz Roadster

Every time I get excited by that kind of "realism" I remember that I'm playing with a silly toy and looking at a dumb computer screen. From what I understand, though, laser scanning is good for getting elevation/camber a lot better than what's available to most modders. I said come in! posted:I do want developers to at least try. There are plenty of examples of supposedly good tracks that have had major issues with geometry of turns, too.

Geometry and textures from laser scans only look good under specific conditions, for more universal uses, it's less work to create it from scratch. Accurate placement was also a reason I've heard, which also means poo poo when the assets and general look of the track isn't photorealistic. sethsez posted:I have to say, it was remarkably poor timing on their part to announce paid DLC almost immediately after their early access game was one of the highlighted Steam sales. It really makes me wonder what they're going to consider a "completed" game. I imagine it will be considered "completed" once they have every car and feature they've already announced working in the game. I don't think they'll suddenly start holding things back in order to have DLC. They've already laid out exactly what they plan on shipping the game with. I think it'll be more interesting to have a racing game with DLC that is supposedly so open to modding already, I wonder if that'll make it easier to pirate said DLC and if it will still be profitable.

Someday we'll have a racing sim with every single track and car in the world. But what driving model from the major sims will we use? This argument will cause World War III.

I think one guy was talking about the level of tolerances he was able to get to with just regular old non computer gear and it was so low that it would be impossible to notice in a video game.

Too bad the devs of The Crew, i.e. from the original TDU project, went with lovely physics and a miniature scale version of the US, instead of replicating something else 1:1. Supposedly setting up a wheel would however unlock more realistic physics. I guess we'll see summer 2014.

drat am I enjoying Assetto Corsa. Maybe it's because I'm such an e30 M3 fanboy but the game just looks and feels great. I wish I could get the PS4 controller to register under Xbox360 controls, for now I've had to map the controls myself under the wizard tool thingy and the turning is kinda messed up. Keyboard works alright but it gets pretty squirrelly at times. I'm excited to see what they add to the game, because it's off to a great start.

If so, can you post a pic, I adore old 944s I used to have a BMW 635 CSI, that's the nearest I have come to owning a Porsche, was a great car that and I always get goosebumps when I see one in a game.

Porsche signed an exclusivity deal with EA until end of 2014. Hence why its the only manufacturer you never seen in any driving game worth a drat. Just got to hope that VW/Porsche don't renew the deal when it comes up for renewal. Given the deal was signed before the merger, there is hope.

Ruf is a separate company that modifies porsches. So they can put their cars in games. Similar to how grand theft auto can have cars that look strikingly like real cars but aren't licensed.

What GTA did/does is what Interstate '76 did, which is creates an alternate universe version of popular/well known vehicles and gives them clever names. There are no real world companies/logos involved in these games. Ruf is a real company in the real world that takes real Porsches, mods them, and slaps their logo on them. And then they are featured in video games which explicitly cannot have actual Porsches featured in them because of licensing BS, yet all of the other cars in said games are actual cars in reality with all of the original logos (Ferrari, Lotus, BMW, etc. etc. etc.). I guess the really telling thing is that I would be surprised to see a game have both the Porsche license as well as the Ruf license. Frankly, I'm surprised EA cried like a baby about this little real-world sanctioned loophole in their attempt to keep Porsches all to themselves. Actually, I'd be more surprised if they haven't already done this on multiple occasions (I just looked and could not google up any examples of them trying to get Ruf removed from any games).

You'll be OK with that, set the resolution to be 1200 x 800 anyway (the Rift's native resolution) - that'll help things run well. Turn the number of cube faces down and maybe dial down the shadows. You also don't really need AA in the Rift (opinions vary on this) so that'll really help as well. It's a sweet game, but make sure to use the right hand menu in game to mess with your seat position and FOX etc, this makes a big difference. Have fun

Don't forget that once you get into sims with good enough models you have people who actually drive the tracks playing them. For example I'd expect the bumps on the track out of Hogpen at VIR to be there as well as the weird cambering on the inside of T15 that gives you extra grip. As well as having the curbing modeled correctly.

https://www.plimus.com/jsp/buynow.jsp?contractId=3204840 This link will buy you Game Stock Car 2013 and Formula Truck 2013 as a bundle for $29.90USD. The games are normally $24.90USD each. http://game-stockcar.com.br/?lang=en http://www.gameformulatruck.com/en/ Both are built on the ISI (rFactor 1) engine, but are very, very good. I much rather these over rFactor. Game Stock Car is fantastic, and Formula Truck could be fun for some dumb, one off, multiplayer races.

Ruf puts so much work into their cars that Germany has recognized them as a car manufacturer and not just a performance shop. So when they make a car, they can call it the Ruf RGT and never have to mention Porsche.

On that subject I have got... GTR Evolution GT Legends GTR FIA GT GTR 2 FIA GT Are these all expansions that I launch from within Race 07? I bought them ages ago in some bundle or other, thanks!
|
# ? Dec 26, 2013 21:12 |

GTR Evolution acts like an expansion if you already have Race 07 installed, all the content should be available to you regardless of which one you launch. (This is assuming you have them on Steam.) The other 3 are all completely seperate titles, everybody seemed to overlook GT Legends but I personally loved it, and GTR2 especially is still a solid GT racing sim. The only issue is if you have it on Steam you won't get Porsches or Ferraris due to some licensing BS. I can't vouch for how legal it is but with some googling there is a method to get them back involving a retail patch & no-CD combo.
