Yeah braking near houses should totally be banned. But then they're going to complain when the next truck ends up their living room.

To be honest.. tall, large diameter stacks with minimal muffling in the system make my pantaloons quite humid. When driving a car, I enjoy being able to hear a fellow truck driver coming up from behind me from a distance that gives me time to acknowledge them so I can prepare for what could be described as a blood flow displacement from most of my body into my pelvic region. The sounds of a large displacement engine with it's jakes fully engaged and creating over 500 hp of brakinNNNNYYEEEEUUUGGGHHHH give me a moment. Anyway, gently caress that guy. *suddenly ends up giving interceptor one heck of a nice body massage

Days like this, it makes me feel good to know i've only got 5 months max left in this truck. a 12 liter diesel engine with half of the radiator blocked off propelling 40,000lbs to 70 miles an hour isn't enough to heat the coolant over 110*f. I actually have to hold my hands against the heater core to warm my fingertips up.

It's like trying to gently caress a pail of frozen molasses to shift until I can get the needle to move. A couple weeks ago i started the truck at -31*C, when i let the clutch pedal out, it stalled. i couldn't even move the shifter. The range shift sycnhro is a sensitive little bitch, and there is no approved synthetic fluid for it, so i'm stuck with it. I was sleeping in the truck the other night in grande prairie, it hit -32*C, woke up at 3am freezing to death. the coolant temp and oil temp weren't even on the gauge. I couldn't be hosed to get out and cover up the rad, so i just cranked the RPM up to 1500. Even then it didn't drop the fuel more than an inch. I'm almost certain the thermostat is stuck open, but considering my intercooler is behind the rad, it gives me more horsepower so it's not gonna get fixed.

Instead, I relaxed, got over it, and just going to loving lock my mudflaps up. I think I'll use my unused gun cablelocks.

The guy pulls in at an angle, then reverses out, and I figure he is going to get it in the generous, well marked bay that way- hell, even the best of us don't get it right first time all the time. Nope, he just needed to make sure he was parked straight, bays be damned.

PAM: Penny A Mile In other news, we had a bunch of trucks turn into 40 ton paperweights because the drivers didn't idle them and the fueltanks turned into puddling pops. Well no poo poo, the higher we idle, the slower we go, and we all know that you won't wave that, so have fun thawing out rigs rear end-jacks. It's really funny when a Texas truck gets routed north. Texas uses, what, 5%, 10% bio, so it starts to cloud at like 45F, and the company doesn't want you to used #1 when you get up in the cold states, so what happens? Hell some truck stops are warning people that the diesel in the fuel pumps are starting to freeze up, so be careful. Like that's going to improve when you put it in an engine and run it at 65mph in -20F. Now let's see if I can get the shop to replace my tires that are at 4 thou for wintertime safety.

CommieGIR posted:What, nobody carries Diesel 911 up there? I always dumped a cup or so in whenever I filled up. How cute, you think the company will PAY for that! Simple cure, in cold weather, idle the truck and burn .3G/hour and keep everything from freezing, but it's cheaper to thaw out a bunch of trucks than burn fuel! In other news, I got new to me drive tires and steer tires! A couple fresh mismatched set of recaps! Except They installed them wrong. I don't know how they installed them wrong. I mean I know HOW they installed them wrong, but it is such a rookie tire mistake that I can't loving believe it. So now that I am back home, I get to go back to a professional tire shop and have them completely dismounted from the wheels and remounted as a complete set. Can anyone tell me how to not correctly mount dual tires? Let's see if you are better than our paid tire service personnel! Oh yeah, and aligned too. After all, somehow my truck has gone through a couple of sets of steer tires, being told it needs an alignment, telling the shop it needs an alignment, but getting ignored over that fact for 180,000 miles.

They didn't balance them. Most time they don't put tires on the machines and balance them, they do the runout mark on the sidewall, and if you are using alloy wheels, match them and call it good. They didn't even do that, then instead of putting the valve stems 180 degrees out on the duals, well, they next holed them over. With a trailer, I have a hard time keeping it straight because it shimmies a little, bobtailing? I'm loving Micheal J Fox, truck driver. I thought it was the roads because of the cold they buckle a little, it wasn't until I dropped my load, completely lost the damping of the trailer weight that I figured something was more wrong than green tires being a bit squirmy. Some of that might also be because on my steers, they didn't remove all of the wheel weights when I had them balanced. I found that out when I looked at the brand new rubber on my dirty wheels and saw some dirty weights.

I saw something ages ago that still pops into my head from time to time. Saw a big truck going down I-35E between DFW and Waco. The trailer was cocked about 5-10 degrees compared to the truck. He was taking up a small chunk of the shoulder, with his steers almost into the next lane. Still doing about 60 mph. The tires didn't sound or smell happy about this arrangement. I've seen similar a couple of times, but usually it's 1-2 degrees. Never seen anything that bad since then. Cause(s)?
