I think the idea has merit, but like a lot of things involving user experience in Steam, is half-baked. They need to allow you to flag mods as "do not auto-update" just like they allow you to flag games to enable/disable auto-update. The functionality is already there, they just have to extend it.

I have been playing Falskaar lately, but I'm finding the bandits to be stupid-tough; my character is only level 25, but bandits with plain-old longbows and steel arrows are dealing ~100 damage per shot. I wondered if maybe I accidentally installed a mod that did this, but, nope, it's just Falskaar. It's made the mod virtually unplayable. Is there something I can do other than "~ tgm"?

I think you can only hire them when they are at an inn, I can hire them then but never when I find them on the road.

You need to get a silver sword, there's one in one of the first rooms in barrow, I think behind a sarcophagus. Silver is needed against the undead, most weapon's don't do poo poo. Also the first dragon fight will destroy you until your a higher level.

But if you're running mods, chances are at some point you're going to need to run the game from SKSE anyways instead of the launcher. I barely even touch the launcher now unless I install some new mod via the Workshop and want to download it, and like you said, you can just unsubscribe so even on the very rare occasion you need to download another mod the other ones won't update.

This was my experience with two characters before I quit using Requiem. I like the general idea, but dislike that it is not modular and basically a "gently caress you" to the player in terms of tedium. I just want to kill monsters and find loot, dammit.

Two questions for the thread now that I'm starting up a new Argonian Arcanist playthrough:

First, do Forgotten Magic Redone and Apocalypse Spells play nice with one another? I'd like a broad variety of magic so I can try as many weird combinations as possible, and these seem to fit the bill (Midas Magic looks a bit OP).

Second, I can't seem to find the mod I used to use for this, so does anyone have a low-profile 'make enchanted poo poo look normal' mod? Basically I don't want enchanted weapons/armor to suddenly have their beautiful high-resolution textures completely obscured by unbelievably stupid-looking glow effects. I know it's a fire sword- it doesn't need to be bright red all the time.

A tesedit script or skyproc plugin could. UESP also has a dump of the skyrim data files that you could probably pull any official stuff you need out of.

In Steam go settings > In-game > check Save an uncompressed copy.

I haven't tried that but it seems to be what you want without 3rd party programs. I use Greenshot for when I need to take screens, there's also EVGA Precision X, and MSI Afterburner, both popular programs for video card monitoring/overclocking that can take screens as well.

It must be fate that has brought us together after all these years.
So what are some mods that make Alchemy more fun? I loved abusing the hell out of alchemy in Oblivion but Skyrim's seems to come down to trial and error or Alt-Tab to a spreadsheet every 5 seconds which got me to ignoring it. Has to be comptible with SPERG's alchemy tree because losing auto-perks is a no no for me.

Is there a list of .ini tweaks on can do to squeeze out some performance that aren't super obvious like the settings in the Skyrim launcher? Or any that you guys recommend or even which settings are the most GPU intensive settings, when I installed this game it auto adjusted everything to Ultra and I'm playing it on Ultra fine at 60FPS locked, but my GPU can get quite hot at times running at 60-100% load and hitting peak temps of 65c, I know this isn't anything to be concerned about but I'd like to have my GPU not work so hard and be a bit quieter if possible.

Like for example with Borderlands 2, out of the box settings it ran my GPU at 80~ load, I tweaked one line,

DefaultPostProcessName=WillowEngineMaterials.WillowScenePostProcess
to
DefaultPostProcessName=EngineMaterials.ScenePostProcess

And it made the game look WAY better IMO by removing some cartoon shader effects and also droped my GPU load to 30~, so any secrete settings like this?

Also with Mod Organizer, does tweaking the ini from within there keep it handled from within mod organizer like with mods and how they are all self contained, ie. no needing to backup my official skyrim ini's if I want to adjust things.

What's the easiest way--if any--to capture and back up my current, complete Skyrim + Mod Organizer (+ Wrye patched + SKSE) set-up?

I want to flatten my PC in the near future, and traditionally this means I dump my savegames and completely reinstall/configure Skyrim and all my mods from scratch. But I kind of love my current set-up, and once I reinstall Skyrim, this time around I'd kind of like to get up and playing quickly and head-ache free.

Should I try to back up everything somehow from within Mod Organizer, or should I by copy-pasting entire directories, or... what? I've also edited some of my installed mods, and would love to not lose those changes. Ideas welcome.

If you installed all your mods through MO, should be as simple as copying your MO directory, everything is saved there.

Started again with frostfall and holy poo poo it adds a great dimension to the game. I usually do a trek early on to solitude to speed up my levelling by hitting caves/dungeons along the way from Whiterun. But now I need to plan ahead, get my wood, make sure I have the right tents/pelts for the journey, and plan the stops otherwise I would freeze to death. So far it's been really well balanced too so I'm not sat in my tent for too long.

For real. I just spent an intense 45 minutes trying to magic/potion/tent myself from freezing to death outside saarthal last night. Then it was a mad dash to find a heat source once the door was unlocked! (I lived)

Also, regarding my earlier question about mercenaries in populated lands roads paths, it looks like lots of folks are having the same error where they can't hire mercs. Oh well.

Actually tesedit already has a script to export/import weapon values. Here is a modified version that will export armor stats instead. Copy and paste it into a file and save it in the tesedit/edit scripts/ folder.

Nope. Just drag and drop them and when you launch something through MO it will use secret magic to make the right files show up.

So in SPERG, is it intentional that the Spectral Warding perk from the illusion tree doesn't stack with the Mage Armor perk from the alteration tree? Because it doesn't right now.

I have Ironflesh going and it gives me 5% magic resistance if I take the perk, which matches up with the 80 armor the normal spell gives, but not the 320 the buffed version gives, which makes me think there's a bug in there somewhere.

So I mananaged to get the game to run by reinstalling, reapplying all the mods and remove a conflicting mod. But I still experience quite a lot of CTDs so I have now downloaded wrye bash to try to make it run a bit smoother but I'm stupid and cannot find a tutorial that explans step y step how I create merged patched and which mods should go in etc.

Also, I want to replace the arch-mages robe with something since I resigned as arch mage and Tolstir now has that honor. I want to find a nice robe to wear myself but every single robe on the nexus is either psijc or porn. Any suggestions?

I've been looking at spicing up the Civil war and found two mods that caught my interest.

1. Civil War Overhaul
vs
2. Warzones - Civil Unrest

The aim of both seems similar, the first one restores cut civil war content, introduces random battles and ups the number of combatants.
The second one seems to aim for for HUGE (random) BATTLES (with custom # of units) and some improvements to the civil war sieges and stuff.


I'm *guessing* these won't play nice with each other, but anyone got any experience with which is better/less buggy?

Don't use Warzones. The author abandoned it over a year ago and its full of game breaking bugs and causes save bloat.

Having more people around and a more living world than the default "12 guys in a siege tops, and the bodies will be fading out pretty quickly" is pretty high up there on my list of mods to find, but :Gamebryo:

Here's hoping any new Elder Scrolls game (after the MMO bombs) that comes out for the new consoles at least supports more dudes, but I'm afraid it will still be Gamebryo under the hood even in the year 2020...
