...of SCIENCE! posted:I was kind of excited to see that Bronies: The Extremely Unexpected Adult Fans of My Little Pony was on Netflix because I was expecting cringe-y, trainwreck goodness but it's a milquetoast, uncritical doc that was paid for and produced by fans of the show. There's a few mildly funny parts but it's mostly just boring.

I started watching Fatal Attractions and it's quite good. It's a TV-show about people who have exotic pets and usually something really bad happened with them. The show has well made dramatizations of the incidents and the cases are pretty unique so every episode feels fresh.

I liked Maron a lot, though that might be because a lot of his issues (addiction, anger, anxiety) are mine also and I handle them in similarly neurotic and dumb ways when I'm not on top of my game. I think my favorite bit was The way he goes off on Ken Jeong about his own partying days; loving hilarious and spot-on in lots of ways. I understand the comparison to [b]Louie/b] (which I love), but honestly it's not trying to do similar things very often. It struck me much more like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Pretty wacky at times and with a cohesive narrative arc for each episode.

It's really a show that stretched a neat premise wayyyy too far. I was pretty sick of serial killer killing serial killers by season 3.maybe that's just me though.

I don't know if it just got added, but Drew Struzan: The Man Behind the Poster is freaking awesome documentary about the guy who did all of the amazing posters for Star Wars, Back to the Future, Indiana Jones, etc.

Most of them suck because they are either determined to be freak shows or prove that the subculture isn't so bad and in turn don't end up doing much. It is kind of depressing in that the two main people clearly have a lot of problems, but some of the stuff they say is pretty funny. I recall that they didn't like each other very much and that one of them kept insulting the other in her interviews and they end up getting in a fight when they meet up at a Tiffany concert near the end.

Awesome movie and worth watching if you haven't yet Wordplay - people love the New York Times crossword puzzles They Came To Play - documents the Fifth International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs; kind of slow, but I found it inspiring

Trek Nation is one I found interesting as it specifically focuses on Gene Roddenberry's son (who really did not give a poo poo about Star Trek until well into adulthood) and is less about fans as it is about Gene the second trying to understand his dad through the fans and the show.

The thing is from what I can tell this really does accurately reflect the culture. Unlike alot of fandoms, Juggalos don't give a gently caress what others think of them and really make no effort at acceptance. Alot of the trolling is towards them rather then it being them that are butting in and demanding that people take them seriously. Juggalos are pretty hosed up but they're also just doing their own thing and they're (mostly) not really hurting anyone. Out of all the little subcultures, they're probably the one I find most fascinating.
