This will sound odd, but I'm delighted Moyes is our man. During the summer I'll admit I was a little crestfallen that we didn't lure a Klopp or an Ancelotti to Old Trafford, but I couldn't be happier now. Klopp or Ancelotti have been successful with other clubs, and if they'd have come here and continued that success, as a Manchester United fan, I'd feel as though that success was honed elsewhere and just transported here. Mental, right?

With Moyes I find it romantic that we've taken on a manager who has won nothing of note in management to date yet we've the confidence in him to make us champions again. David Moyes can make Manchester United winners; Manchester United can make David Moyes a winner. It'd be the greatest two-fingers to all of our rivals who doubted him and us, and it'll make it all the more sweeter when it happens.

I'm blaming everyone.
Including myself.
We're all to blame for how shite United are.

We all need to take a long hard look at ourselves.
Especially Moyes and his PR people.
Jesus, the man is killing me in his interviews.

I naively still had hope for a pop at the league before the start of this match.
Guess I'm just going to have to settle for 2nd place now.

[Januzaj's] treatment over the past few weeks is one of the big reasons the world best players prefer Spain or other leagues to the Premier League.

We can talk about weather, culture, history or whatever you like, but if the world's most talented youngsters can't produce what they're capable of because less talented lumps are allowed to spend 90 minutes kicking the arses off them up and down the field, they are going to start looking elsewhere.

I sometimes marvel at just how thick the English football masses are. they glory in the no-nonsense, hard-tackling, "get rid" enforcer at the back or in midfield, right from early age football to the top. Then they wonder why they can't produce technically gifted players like Spain, Brazil, Belgium, Argentina or Holland. Newsflash guys, it's because of fellas like Silva, Neymar, Januzaj, Messi or Robben had spent the first decade of their footballing lives listening to neanderthals being praised for landing them on their arses, it's highly unlikely they'd still be playing football today. It's even less likely they'd have been able to develop to the standards they have reached.

What's even more ludicrous, is that people still wonder why English football cannot compete on the international stage, despite having resources superior to almost any other footballing nation. Well if your system is based around the tough-tackling, no-nonsense, less-talented, "have it" style player, and you're playing against the more skilful, technically advanced, "let's actually play football" style player, and you're playing under referees who have been raised to appreciate football, skill and technique as opposed to rough housing and bullying, what do you think is going to happen?

The general concept of that post is correct though. That is the attitude of the British game. It's correct in a reason why a lot of talented players knock back the Premier League.

Funny how Bale's penchant for diving was rarely highlighted (when I say rarely, I mean in comparison to the number of instances he did actually dive) yet Januzaj gets reprimanded by every commentator under the sun whenever he takes to the field.

For this recipie you will need:
Football match (Halftime of), Celebrity Owner (Motivational speaking of), Sherry (Bottle of)

quote:

The aesthetes entertainment-versus-points-argument - used to condemn Hughton - is a recalibration of zero.

Oft-repeated, it has become a de-facto urban truth. I do not see the "negativity" and "boring" football and/or tactics that many solipsistically finger-type themselves into a frenzy over.

The football that I see has a maturity, a solidity, a repeatable consistency about it, blended with commitment, bouncebackability and an increasing desire to retain possession, gravitate carefully and purposefully into the final third. This is counterpointed with an awareness of the structural danger of possession turnover in weak areas and well-drilled opposition with pre-meditated counter-attack ploys.

There is an increasing tendency throughout the top division to focus on greater defensive discipline and - perhaps via resource inequality - many sides specialise (if not exclusively, then predominantly) on sharp counters from solid platforms. With many offering similar tactical formations - and controlled fluidity in certain areas - negation (rather then negativity) is prevalent.

Exposure to decades of Italian football - and a schooling in the Dutch way - simply cannot allow me to characterise our current play as a negative. Wet Wednesday's in Stockport were - and no doubt still are - infinitely worse in every aspect. Sepia-tinted views of relatively recent memory have distorted the views of arrivistes who expect FIFA 14 fluidity, which has never existed.
