and most importantly, I am free in all the ways that you are not.
Metal shows usually aren't so plentiful that you're looking at dozens of places in each city that might have one. If you can name the cities you'll be in the locals on here can tip you towards what venues cater to metal shows

If boston is on your list look into the Middle East in cambridge, The Paradise in boston and the Palladium in Worcester. there's some smaller places that sometimes throw out a surprise but those are the ones most "big" shows play at around here

That seemed kinda corny to me honestly. It sounds like trying to be American Primordial, but doesn't click as well as Primordial. The folky bits seem forced to me. If Americans are going to ape a Euro folk metal band that goes for this kind of "epic" (I hate how that word has been ruined) sound, I wish they'd look more to Kroda's first two albums, which I think integrated the folk bits far better.

The best thing about them is how they parody cheesy euro flower metal but at the same time have some legit good stuff. The vocalist is really good, he has a good dramatic voice with a lot of gusto to it, instead of sounding like a whiny little poo poo like so many of his colleagues.

I've never heard of deafheaven. I stink at the internet :(

But onto non recent music. I started listening again to Flametal - The Elder. It's still insanely awesome. Who doesn't want a little bit of flavor and spice with their metal? But that was back in 2005. Google tells me they have two other releases and they don't really get good reviews. Was that a one album wonder band (if you did you enjoy the album) or what? I remember reading a few years ago that the guitarist was doing solo stuff but I didn't check out more after reading about it. But seriously that first album is awesome.

Blut aus Nord, Enslaved and Emperor have released some really great albums, though again their later material is not as consistent in quality. People will probably recommend Deathspell Omega but their stuff just blends into one nondescript mass of dissonance for me.
