First of all I am not playing him over and over, we actually only the very first game. My comment was only to point out that even when I win my players seem to get much less spp on average than with a bashy team.

I've played many dozens of games with those guys and only had one guy ragequit on me. And that was after I killed an AG3 Sure Hands Ogre (on an Ogre team). And the Apothecary rerolled to Dead. Rage quitting in open league play is the norm, i mean you can't really expect someone to waste an hour of their life when the match is for all purpose over. And wanting to sit there for an hour and killing of your opponents team when he cant fight back is just as lovely. Yeah some people, mostly dwarf coaches, take it to far and quit as soon as they lose a player, but thats a win.. checkmate in 3 moves wuhu.. Scheduled league play like goon bowl is diffrent since ragequitting have a huge impact on everybody and can really ruin a league.

I just started online play and I can see why ragequitting is popular. Almost every time some someone says "gl hf" it's a lovely, boring, 2-1 grind that drives all the fun out of the game. I mean, back when I played tabletop it was all scoring all the time and That and it's super frustrating when a dude's agi 3 orcs are making dodges like gunners and never, ever failing a critical one die blitz!

Almost every time some someone says "gl hf" it's a lovely, boring, 2-1 grind that drives all the fun out of the game. Who doesn't say "gl hf"? And the only way you don't get a boring 2-1 grind match is if both opponents aren't particularly committed to winning (or are both elfy), in which case they're probably doing less-than-optimal things which sometimes lead to their agi 3 orcs making dodges like gunners and never, ever failing a critical one die blitz!. Blood Bowl. But seriously the only time I'm genuinely annoyed by someone complaining about 2-1 grinds or stalling is when they lose the ball through silly high-risk moves or when they're playing as Elves and decide not to go after the ball carrier. Elf coaches complaining about stalling are the worst. Just because my Elfy opponent is only interested in playing half the game (the half his team excels at) doesn't mean I'm an rear end in a top hat for not accommodating him. edit: Not a Dwarf coach.

I played a couple leagues and did well, the game just bored me after a while.

Ragequitting is not the same as conceding a match. If you are done playing or need to go or simply don't want to continue the pain, you can click Menu and then concede. The game ends immediately and your opponent can go do something else too. If you instead just alt-F4 or kill your client or unplug the internet, your opponent has to sit there waiting for the clock to tick down before they get the win. That's kind of assholish. Unfortunately, if your client crashes (which is common because Cyanide) it is indistinguishable to your opponent from a ragequit. I have no issue with an opponent in open play (e.g., not a tournament) conceding a match for whatever reason. Conceding in a tournament is bad because it gives you an unfair reward (all the money for both sides, plus two MVPs, plus +2 scores over whatever your opponent had when they quit, plus your opponent gets no SPPs so his next opponent isn't facing as tough of a match). Ragequitting at any time is just being a giant baby. As for 2-1 being boring, you have two choices: always play as elves or skaven, or, don't play bloodbowl. 2-1 is the only way that many teams can win, so railing against it is kind of like saying "I don't think 80% of bloodbowl teams should ever be played."

If you're set on winning, then trying for the 2-1 grind along with stalling and all that is probably the smart thing to do. I refuse to stall because it's not fun. I play Blood Bowl because it's a game about orcs punching elves while playing football. I don't care that I'll probably tie or potentially lose more games just because I don't stall. I'd rather actually play the game on defense and try to stop a score then stall for like 3 turns. Yes they are probably the most effective / efficient ways to play, but they're not the most fun, and no one is forcing you to follow them.

I think that's part of the problem with blood bowl leagues. You get people who want to play Serious Business to win, and you get people who want to play fun and/or gimmick teams, but the two types of players rarely enjoy games against each other. I know I stall a bit, but I just can't bring myself to embrace the 2-1 grind because I think it's tedious as gently caress. I would much rather have giant fights for the ball and crazy plays. I think I even conceded the last serious game I played because I just didn't have the patience for it.

I like to start with only two vampires, but the normal start is with three. If you are starting with four or more you are going to lose the majority of your matches. Oh yeah and I also like starting with 5 rerolls. I start with two vampires and then once they are both level 3 with either block and pro or dodge and pro I buy my 3rd vampire. Then when those three all are level 4 with block, dodge, and pro I buy the 4th vampire and then at that point you wait for the new guy to get level 4 before buying your 5th or, more normally, just stay with 4 vampires. There is an alternate Vampire strategy of buying 3 vamps/4 rerolls to start, never getting pro, and never expanding beyond 3 vampires with 4 rerolls. edit: keep in mind AT BEST a vampire team is only going to win 50% of it's matches and it's entirely rng dependant if you win or not. This is just due to the swing nature of all the negatraits and how reliant you are on hypno working to break cages. Washout fucked around with this message at 20:58 on Dec 20, 2013 |

You get people who want to play Serious Business to win, and you get people who want to play fun and/or gimmick teams, but the two types of players rarely enjoy games against each other. You see this same tedious debate all throughout Games, whenever people have a game they play online that has win/lose conditions. There are always people who "just play for fun" and other people who play to win, and the former call the latter "tryhards" and etc. etc. ad nauseum. It's fine to play a game however you want that makes it fun for you. It's stupid to rail against other people who play a competitive game to win that game, using the strategies to win that are made optimal by that game's own rules and parameters. At the very most, you can politely decline to play that sort of game, and BB gives you the option to opt-out by conceding. If you're playing in a tournament, the default expectation is that you're playing to win, and you should discuss that with the other members of the tournament if you'd rather do it differently. If you're playing in an open league/matchmaker format, you should expect that a lot of players you will face will assume you (and they) are playing to win, and be both unsurprised and unperturbed when that happens frequently.

I think it's also important to note that Blood Bowl is usually a game that people leave for a bit and then come back to. I know very few people that play it consistently week after week after week. I don't see this as a bad thing, nothing wrong with taking a break and then coming back to the game when you get an itch. On the whole 2 - 1 thing, I just see it as sounds strategy to play out your play in both halves, I mean you have a general plan and then you have the turn by turn plan. Even though I often plan for a 2 - 1 grind it usually doesn't happen. And those that do end up 2 - 1 has a tendency to get very tense at the end. Oh and never ragequit, always concede.

Yeah, peacing out because you're getting your rear end handed to you in casualties or because you're 3 points behind with 5 turns left in the game might be good sense. Hell during the Let's Play some of us did with Yapo, we had a few elf teams that conceded because they were clearly getting CAS spirals shortly after half time. That's fine. Ragequitting because your opponent drew first CAS, hurt your unique snowflake player, or blunted your cage in the first half is just being an rear end in a top hat.

I do would like to try some strength skills on my reserve 4th vamp and see where that takes me.

8 teams, nothing with regen, or dead-raising. No stunty apart from the goblins on Orcs, which also means the only thing lacking for a goblin team is the pogo-er and the secret weapons. Even fewer than that if they're doing the full star player line-up, because orcs should get a pogo-er and a bomber. No norse or amazons, but a brand new team. Really rather odd.

goatface posted:8 teams, nothing with regen, or dead-raising. It kinda makes sense as a poor developer, if not as a guy that likes blood bowl? Most of the listed teams function exactly the same mechanically(probably in the case of the brets), whereas adding in necromancers and raising the dead is adding in new features. If you accept that cyanide is going to release them in waves(unfortunate but sadly likely), it makes sense for them to build the waves around added functionality, so all the dead raising regen teams at once for instance. The only thing that really doesn't fit in is that a couple of teams(Norse, amazon, pro elves for instance) aren't in the generic rules set they're releasing at first. Perhaps they're saving them to pad out future versions?

Amazons need nothing extra, the pieces are the same skeleton shape (and they have to have a female model already because of witch-elves) with different skins and have no specialist skills that need to be coded. There's no big-guy, no off-model positionals, no special mechanics, they don't need mutation models. They're about as simple as it gets.

I didn't even know there was a Blood Bowl thread, i guess i never looked. There are a handful(5 most nights, 10 busy nights) of us playing this in the GROON league. GROON is a goon only Eve spaceship thing but some of us don't play spaceships anymore so instead we play fun games. We basically just hang out in TS, get drunk and then feel bad when we kill someones star thrower. Or laugh, whatever. We also do some tournaments at different point values, currently running is all new teams. After this one is over the next one is a 1700-2000 point deal for the big boys. We'll probably end up with 12 teams. You'll never get any games spinning or whatever 'cause we do all of our matchmaking in TS by asking who wants to play a game. Anyway if anyone wants to put some teams in the league and play some games. Register on our forums and PM me there(the angry denizen), or PM me here and i'll get you setup on our TS.
