Very nice dude.

I am actually at $8,000 in revenue and am still not tiering out (I'm also way below my 55 new line goal anyway). High goals blow.

For reference to normal people, a normal revenue goal is something like $2500-3000.

Our revenue goal got lowered from 5000 to 4000 and I'm the closest to hitting in the store and I'm 400 dollars away.

I had a long detailed answer, but I'm going to simplify it:

ATT reps basically make 50% hourly and 50% commission (it varies month to month). On the commission end. Half of it is revenue sold. It isn't a dollar to dollar amount, but we get a % of revenue.

Reps only get said revenue by adding to accounts now, and primarily by switching customers to mobile share plans. So if you switch to mobile share and stay exactly the same, the rep gets literally $0 commission. If you switch and the plan goes up by even $1, the rep gets the entire plan (most family plans are $150-300). So that $10 insurance plan could have been the difference between commission and not commission.

It's lovely in many ways and obviously the intent is to encourage reps to be increasing bills and offering higher plans. Personally, I just do a balance on it and I do draw the line on areas where it's just obviously not in the customers interest, and I just "eat" the $0 commission.

Thankfully the newer plans are actually easier for me to save people money while still getting paid, so honestly right now it's slightly worse than it sounds.

It's already in more markets than UVerse and it's a huge push for ATT, so I would imagine of you are in a big market (like Salt Lake) you would see it at some point.

The insurance and all that stuff was existing so I don't think taking it off took anything away. Anyways I was trying to be kinda sarcastic. My point was that guy sucked. So hopefully someone here can help me figure out what option is best for me. I've decided to get rid of my service with T-Mobile as it's spotty at best in my home city, and completely unreliable anytime I travel.

I have an unlocked Nexus 4 so I'd be contract free, and from what I can tell, my bill would be around 80 plus tax every month if I get the unlimited talk/text mobile share plan with 2gb's of data, due to the 15 dollar credit.

However, my fiance has a plan with AT&T but is under contract till Nov 2015. Obviously if we can get a family plan going, that'd be much easier (and hopefully cheaper) for the both of us. But if I'm understanding what the web store is showing me, there's no way to hop on her plan without messing with her contract and employee discount, and that the service would actually be more expensive for me (and about the same for her) compared to just getting my own plan (since I'd get the 15 dollar credit for being without a contract but only under my own plan).

Am I right or is there something I'm missing here?

$18 transfer fee, but I believe it's waived if you do it yourself online. $36 if they come from another carrier.

I can help here.

You can either add on under her name or transfer her to yours without affecting her contract (see just what I told the person above you isn't is post actually). The discount is only honored if it's in that persons name, so figure whether her or you get a better discount and have that person be the account holder.

The plan for mobile share value 25 is indeed $55 + $25 to be $80 since you will be no contract. Her line is in contract, so under either name it would simply be $40 to add on. Any discounts go off of the $55 base part of the plan.

$18 per line.
And yes he's probably irritated. But he's not irritated at you, its the situation we have to work within now. If we aren't increasing your bill our managers are breathing down our necks wanting to know why.
4 years ago, I was happy to do whatever a customer asked, with no questions or suggestions for change. I got paid for helping people no matter what they bought or what they did or didn't change. Like dude said above, we only get paid (beyond the arguably adequate hourly) when we increase your bill. If we don't get enough people on Uverse per month, its our rear end. If we dont get enough NEXT per month, its our rear end. If we don't get enough DigitalLife per month, its our rear end. If we don't get enough of whatever AT&T is focusing on that month, its our rear end.
We are put in a high pressure and competitive environment and everyone above us scrutinizing every opportunity we could have had to upsell you anything.

Alright, just to make sure I understand what your saying, I can add her onto my plan (with the 15 dollar discount since I have no contract) even though she is under a contract already (meaning she'd just move to my plan but remain on contract)?

It would appear that her discount is only applicable to new contracts, so if we can switch her over to mine, that'd be far more beneficial.

I have a question for any ATT employee...

At work a few days ago, my District Manager came in, saw my Note 3, and asked if i got the free Gear with it. I told him that i hadnt been offered the Gear at all so he showed me an email detailing the promo and said that since im part of Sears and have the FAN attached to my account I should call Customer Support and get one. The deal runs form October to January 9th. He bought his Note from the same store on the same day I did and said he didnt have any problems dealing with CS to get the Gear. It took him about 20 minutes to get everything in order. According to the email, anyone associated with Sears Holdings should be eligible for the promotion.

I have spent about 7 hours on the phone since yesterday dealing with this. Nobody can tell me anything and the Business Premier guys either hang up the call or tell me to go into the store.
So, i went into the store and the guy told me "There is no loving way your getting a Galaxy gear because you didn't know about the deal when you made the purchase. Its not our responsibility to tell you every deal thats going on." Im pretty sure this guy is the manager as he was the only person there yesterday and was the only one in the store today when i stopped by. Tried calling the store about 15 minutes ago and he was the one that picked up.

Anyway, ive now spent about 7 hours on the phone dealing with the situation and no one can seem to help me. Business Premier keeps telling me to go to the store, but if that guy is gonna treat me like that, what other recourse do i have? The main CS people dont want to deal with any of this at all and keep transferring me to numbers that are currently offline for the rest of the day because of the holiday or giving me back to Premier.

The $2/day or $.10/min plan both seem like good choices, but I am unclear on the handset rules. Do you have to get a Go handset from ATT, or will they just give you a SIM that you can stick in any compatible GSM phone?

Either is fine, you can buy a go phone or bring your own. Snapfone seems to be popular and they work on AT&T.

Explain why you think this is bad.

There's a multitude of reasons that have been explained ad nauseum by people explaining why net neutrality is important.

Simple explanations of some of the main problems:

1. Company A, a startup, has a cool app. Company B, an incumbent, has a competing app. Company B, using it's monetary might, uses sponsored data to greatly increase the hurdles for Company A to compete on a fair playing field. In fact, it's impossible for Company A to compete on a fair playing field.

Sponsored data reduces competition in favor of incumbents.

2. Sponsored data is a tax on companies who can afford to pay. If you're Netflix and Amazon is paying for sponsored data, you will have to as well.

3. Consumers will end up paying for it anyway! Costs of business (sponsored data) will just be passed on to the consumer either directly through increased costs for whatever service they're using or indirectly through higher costs elsewhere. Thus, AT&T gets to double-dip. They charge the customer for data on their bill, and they indirectly charge the customer through the company providing whatever service the customer is using.

If AT&T wants to increase its profits, the long-term consumer-friendlier move is to, paradoxically, increase the costs of mobile data to the user directly, not distort the market by policies that favor incumbents with deep pockets. Consumers feel like they're having a favor done for them when App X doesn't use up their data allotment, but then those same consumers will still be using App X in 10 years with minimal or no improvements because there is no pressure from fresh new players entering the market.

Even if your claim that they're existing issues in any competitive market (wrong, cell providers are not a competitive market) was true (wrong, they are not existing issues in any competitive market...I don't even know what this claim means in this context), that doesn't mean we should just go "welp, I guess we should give up".

Being mad at AT&T for not championing change is ridiculous, because they're making a change for the worse which is just another thing to be "mad" at them about. The two issues are not mutually exclusive.

In another delicious illustration of why sponsored data is anti-consumer, I am an AT&T customer because there are no alternatives around here.

Additionally, the implication that I should just switch if I don't like what they do is stupid rhetoric. It's completely possible, even likely, for a company to do bad things, but not bad enough to outweigh the disadvantages of switching (or, in my case, going without cell service).

I know this seems to be primarily a retail thread but I have a network related question. If I'm in my apartment, I typically don't receive calls and people seem to automatically get my voicemail. I consistently have full service bars and receive LTE data perfectly fine. It seems that my phone, HTC One, just isn't switching to voice service. My roommate, with an iPhone 5 on AT&T, has the same issue. I reached out to a number of customer service reps and finally got one who told me the nearest tower was degraded but then tries to sell me a small cell stating that I don't have service in my "town"(downtown Baltimore). I have full service, just not voice . Is their anyway to force an AT&T phone to just 3G data, as far as I can tell the issue is my phone not being handed off between the LTE and regular antenna.

Edit: a friend of ours uses an iPhone 4 and receives calls and texts perfectly fine in our apartment next to our non working LTE phones, this is why I think it's an LTE issue.

That's a weird one. LTE is data only still, so even if it's a LTE issue in theory it actually should not affect voice and text (iMessage would be affected). Honestly, it sounds like just an overall network issue.

It's a bit out of my area on how to fix the towers, but definitely download Mark the Spot and mark it as an issue. They do look at those. Otherwise, it's just a matter of whether the network team responds to tickets.

A microcell would likely solve the problem, hence why they offered it. Sometimes you can get them for discounted or free, but it is completely luck of the draw. It's the beginning of the year, so now is the time when policies are under review so even if previous people got them for free doesn't mean you will or won't. I would try asking again though.

There is no default app to force only 3G on an android phone (it is in the settings for iPhone), but there may be 3rd party apps, so check the play store.

I'm aware that LTE is data only, I'm thinking the issue is switching between the LTE antenna and the antenna providing voice. If I completely switch off mobile data it works just as well as it does for a phone that doesn't have LTE. So that's why I'm thinking its a hand-off issue between the antennas. If my phone doesn't get a signal from the LTE antenna at all its perfectly fine. I managed to get lucky with a support person on the online chat who actually put in a ticket for the tower and apparently their working on it this week anyway.

edit: And of course that app isn't compatible with my phone. Looks like it was last updated for Gingerbread. I'll finally get around to downloading Tasker and have it automatically turn off mobile data when I'm home.
