After seeing a bunch of the new Lexuses on the road I have to say, the new Lexus grille looks very strange from the "1.5ft off the ground front 3/4 angle" view that all these publicity photos use, but in real life actually works pretty well. I suspect it will be much like the new Cherokee.

I can't picture the person who looks at this, then the comparable BMW/Mercedes; and chooses the Lexus. But I'm just a guy on the internet

The width of the B-pillar, and how little of the side rear window is actually window, really bothers me. This picture shows it better

Has there been any pics or word on any interior changes on the STI?

Dunno, I saw both in real life and thought they both look as odd as they do in photos. The Lexus grille is to me particularly mystifying since I feel like their previous design language was plenty distinctive and this one is just plain ugly, as well as looking dated considering the massive shield grille fad is now like 5-10 years old. Especially on the LS, it totally ruins the look and in no way fits with the styling of the rest of the car.

I love those air vents on the TT. They look great by themselves, and adding the A/C controls on them is just genius. It makes the center console look so clean.

The infotainment screen in the instrument cluster is neat but I'd be annoyed that my passenger couldn't mess with it.

I dunno, this concept didn't do much for me. The doors are too long and it's just a generic sedan shape - there's little in there that tells me that it's a performance car with a Group A rally pedigree.

This is ok news for me, since I'd get it in 4 (5?) door trim anyway. I drive mine like a mini-GT car and it's perfect for that. And hey, maybe the no 2 door option means that the rumors might be true, we'll get the Scirocco R :getin:

Now you can turn off the nannies as well, instead of the always-on like the current R. The lack of mention of LED tails hopefully means it will remain the same sort of cost it was already at around 34k or so. No mention of where they are going to build these things either, this next generation Golf for the American markets is going to be built in Mexico save for the R, or so the rumors go. Be interesting to find out.

Well this should reverse VW's current US sales disaster. Passat Sport. same 1.8T power, spoiler, some interior accents, 5 speed manual, $27k

VOLKSWAGEN ANNOUNCES PRICING FOR 2014 PASSAT SPORT

- Black roof, black mirror caps, sport seats and interior carbon trim add to Sport's unique look
- Available with new EA888 Gen 3 1.8-liter turbocharged and direct-injected four-cylinder engine
- Will arrive in showrooms in early 2014
- Starts at $28,495 with a six-speed automatic transmission

Herndon, VA - Volkswagen of America, Inc., announced today that it will offer a production version of the Passat Performance Concept shown at the 2013 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS): the Passat Sport. Joining the Passat line-up between the mid-level SE and the range-topping SEL Premium trims, the 2014 Volkswagen Passat Sport takes a number of design cues from the concept car to offer an athletic-leaning take on the award-winning sedan.

Specifically, the Passat Sport features 19-inch Luxor wheels, a rear spoiler, foglights, a unique interior with sport comfort seats, carbon trim accents, aluminum sport pedals, paddle shifters (automatic transmission only), stainless steel door sills, and Sport-specific floor mats. Three exterior colors are available for the Sport: Urano Gray (an exclusive color for this model), Candy White, and Tungsten Silver. Candy White and Tungsten Silver are accompanied by a black roof and black mirror caps, as seen on the concept car.

These features are in addition to those already offered on the mid-level SE trim, which includes Volkswagen Car-Net™, the Premium VIII touchscreen sound system with HD Radio™, automatic headlights, rearview camera, heatable front seats and leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel with audio and phone controls.

The Passat Sport is available with Volkswagen's new 1.8-liter EA888 Gen 3 turbocharged and direct-injection four-cylinder engine, which offers 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. The 1.8-liter can be matched to a five-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The 2014 Passat Sport is priced starting at $27,295 with the manual transmission (including $820 destination and handling), and will go on sale in early 2014.

I first read it as "3.8 Liter 4 cylinder" and my eyes got very large for a second.

Considering the amount of cars with a "sports" trim, I don't think most Americans would know a sports car if it hit them in the face with 19 INCH LUXOR WHEELS.

I don't think people buy this car looking for power. It's kind of the opposite of the Avenger, which has 283 hp for $18k in a turd of a midsize sedan.

Which begs the question, what ARE they looking for when buying this car? Just a car labelled "sport" despite not looking or acting sporty but priced as though it were? If this car were a sport it'd be curling.

Edit: vv hey man the Corolla still has that 4 speed automatic doesn't it? VW is way ahead of the curve by comparison.

The 5-speed makes it super dated, it feels like having a tape deck in a new car. What other cars still come with 5 speeds? The ultra-cheap Versa?

What the hell is going on with VW? My wife's 08 Passat wagon has a six speed manual and the same engine as the GTI of that era. It's a fun to drive wagon that is very comfortable with good utility. It sure as hell cost less too, even with us having to special order it for the manual.

It's not common for large cars like the Passat, lots of small cars like the Focus, Fiesta, Fit, Fiant 500 have it.

According to this WSJ chart, VW was down 6.9% from last year at 407k vehicles (367k total cars). It's about the same volume Kia and Mercedes individually do.

I'm reading about Ford's new Ecoboost engines, the 2.3L 4 for the Mustang and the 2.7L V6 "nano" for the F-150 and I keep hoping one of those finds its way into a Fusion for a next gen Sport model. A Fusion Sport with either one of those wouldn't cannibalize SHO sales too much.

I ended up buying another vw a year and a half ago after swearing off of them quite a while back. I liked how the TDI drove compared to the competition. I generally don't recommend them to other people though.
