Odddzy posted:This guitar has no wood and sounds like every other guitar. Does this mean white smoke gives the same tone as wood? No see, that's not actually smoke, it's actually aerosolized nitrocellulose vapor, when it's inside the guitar it has a sympathetic vibration with the strings with causes the molecules to form into a tone-enhancing film inside the guitar which helps to eliminate dead spots and reform discordany frequencies. Hkkhkhjfghjfdfhdf.

White Dog Eggs posted:Sounds like a dry fingerboard, must have been a dodgy bit of rosewood or something. You should paint something vile on the fretboard and varnish it. I'd forget about refretting, it's pretty hard to do with specialist tools, if you've not got them it's near impossible and then you'd have to level and dress the frets. Be easier to buy a new neck. I've built necks and bodies from scratch. I could handle it but you know

Ibanez and Fender both make decent stuff between $200-$300. Ibanez necks are a little more comfortable, fenders sound a little better

Steppin_Razor posted:since this has turned into gear sperging i thought i'd ask here - whats a good bass for beginners? 1. Buy used. eBay and Craigslist is full of cheap great basses. 2. Play the loving thing before you buy it. If you have fatty sausage fingers or dainty little girl hands, what will be comfortable will be different. 3. Stand up with a strap on it and play it some more. Basses can get heavy after a while. Find one you're comfortable with. 4. Don't spend more than 200 on a used bass. Seriously, the quality you can get at the sub-200 range is pretty fantastic. 5. I liked my Ibanez 4 string a lot. Relatively thin neck and low string action made for silky smooth playing, plus it made me happy so I WANTED to practice more. 6. I hate playing Fender basses. I'd rather play a loving washtub and kazoo.

Ibanez GSR200 if you have big hands or want a full size bass that's still comfortable to play, Squier Bronco if you want something tinier or that doesn't have batteries Both are dirt cheap used, happy hunting

Ya know, i expected Flea to have a bunch of seriously ugly and/or weird basses, but it turns out they're pretty normal! also, even though they haven't had a good song since fuckin Mother's Milk came out, for some reason i still think fondly of the chili peppers.
