The government can still do things for you, and still be the government, but never our government. That's going to be the undertone for every 'hapless private business' story Fox runs. If you want to try and make a fundamental distinction between the people in a Medicare office building and those in a Kaiser office building, it's way easier if you've already otherized the first bunch.

I kind of wonder what it's like to work at Fox News, whose entire programming is devoted to feeding old people and idiots whatever they want to hear, when most people working there are probably smart enough to know better.

Stossel has figured who is to blame for income inequality...womenquote:Stossel said on Fox News’ Fox & Friends that the “War on Poverty” only helped the nation’s poor for five years. After that, progress stopped because people — particularly women — learned to depend on government handouts, he explained.

I never watch Fox News and usually keep my right-wing craziness intake to catching Beck, Rush, or Mark Levin, but I joined this new gym and they had Fox News on the TV near me, with The Kelly File on. I gotta tell you, I've never seen so many race-baiting stories, with complementary inflammatory headlines, in my entire drat life. Nor did I know that Megyn Kelly had her own show!

I forget the exact quote but the effect of it is "if a man's income relies on failing to understand something the man will never be capable of understanding it." Really, it applies here. The problem is that you have people whose jobs rely on deliberately misunderstanding certain things. They're paid to believe that social programs are all bad no matter what so of course they'll believe that. Even if these people once realized the lies they're spreading another snag is that if you repeat a lie enough times you start to believe it. Maybe there's some inkling, deep inside, that they're wrong but it's since been buried in ARE FREEDUMS!!!!

sleepingbuddha posted:All the media coverage I have seen has also done this. I honestly had no idea those other criticisms were in the book, I just figured he was trying to sell the book by capitalizing on anti-Obama sentiment. The Wall Street Journal has an excerpt for free on their site. I read the excerpt that talks about Obama, and no more than two paragraph after, we get this gem: Robert Gates posted:Such difficulties within the executive branch were nothing compared with the pain of dealing with Congress. Congress is best viewed from a distance—the farther the better—because up close, it is truly ugly. I saw most of Congress as uncivil, incompetent at fulfilling their basic constitutional responsibilities (such as timely appropriations), micromanagerial, parochial, hypocritical, egotistical, thin-skinned and prone to put self (and re-election) before country. He also refers to inheriting bad wars from Rumsfeld, and talks a bit about the similarities between Bush and Obama. Also, the National Security Staff is a horrible group, according to him. It's an interesting read, and I'll be looking for it when I get back. It'd be awesome to get a signed copy to put up next to my 'Known and Unknown' signed copy. That was a fun experience getting that one.

Hey, Dittohead "Global Warming?" assholes (my coworkers). It's January 11th in Charlotte, only 10:40 in the morning and it's already 55 degrees and supersaturated humidity; headed for a high of 64! January 11th. I'm gonna have to turn my a/c on today and it's gonna be warmer tomorrow. Will this shut up my "there's been 17 years of Global COOLING" coworker? Of course it won't. Global Warming is a hoax, scientists know nothing, except for those scientist who just said it's been cooling for 17 years now...
