Ibanez and Fender both make decent stuff between $200-$300. Ibanez necks are a little more comfortable, fenders sound a little better

Ibanez GSR200 if you have big hands or want a full size bass that's still comfortable to play, Squier Bronco if you want something tinier or that doesn't have batteries Both are dirt cheap used, happy hunting

Ya know, i expected Flea to have a bunch of seriously ugly and/or weird basses, but it turns out they're pretty normal!  also, even though they haven't had a good song since fuckin Mother's Milk came out, for some reason i still think fondly of the chili peppers.
