Oh no oh god it's all true!

quote:

The premise is simple: Twenty Minutes In The Future, Hasbro creates a genetic engineering wing, Hasbio. To capitalize on the insane success of Friendship is Magic, they create the world's first "biotoy" (a term which is intentionally divisive, referring to the concept of a living thing created and marketed as if it were a toy.) This was the Fluffy Pony, a housecat-sized creature that resembled a G4 My Little Pony with wool-like fluff. Fluffy ponies are bio-programmed; though they have their own minds and can differ drastically, they all start off with the same core information. They innately understand English and can speak their own cutesy dialect, commonly referred to as Fluffspeak. Fluffspeak is mostly an executive's idea of what sounds cute (replacing L and R with W, mispronouncing big words, adding -ies as a plural, etc) combined with a sanitized dictionary (poopies, no-no place.) Fluffy ponies come in 4 races: Earth Fluffies, Unicorns, Pegasi and Alicorns. The differences are mainly cosmetic (pegasi cannot fly, unicorns can make harmless sparks at most), though their personalities are

After hearing of this, PETA engages in an act of bioterrorism, freeing all the fluffies being produced at Hasbio. There were three problems with this: the fluffies still had bugs, fluffies were never meant to breed outside of Hasbio and fluffies were never meant to live outside of a home or store. The released fluffies have a very high breeding rate; this, along with their cuteness, causes people to begin breeding and selling fluffies across America.

An important point to note is that the fluffy pony fandom has no defined canon. Rather, it uses a concept called "headcanon", in which every creator has their own specific rules for fluffies. There are concepts that are popular and virtually unchangeable (personalities, speech patterns, love of spaghetti), but much of what makes a fluffy pony is subject to the creator (size, whether certain subspecies exist, what the universe of their story is like). This means that many of the tropes here will vary by author/story.

Anime: All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku

Combine a state-of-the-art combat android with the brain of a stray cat, wrap it all in the appearance of an enthusiastic teenage girl, and what do you get? Nuku-Nuku, aka Atsuko Natsume, "daughter" of engineer/roboticist/high school teacher Kyousuke Natsume and "sister" of ten-year-old Ryuunosuke Natsume. Busty, bouncy and absolutely innocent in the way a kitten is, Nuku-Nuku is also a powerful combat cyborg who is fiercely protective of her family and friends. Since her "father" is the estranged husband of the CEO of Mishima Heavy Industries, Japan's number one military contractor, and she herself is a stolen prototype he created, that means she sees a lot of action. From a pair of trigger-happy goonettes to a psychotic android that wants to steal her body to the task of trying to reunite Kyousuke and his wife so her little brother is happy, Nuku-Nuku approaches every challenge with a smile, a laugh, and a grip that can bend steel I-beams.

Let's see what Tropers think of it. Oh, what's that? Four separate subfolders of tropes? I guess it must be pretty great then.

quote:

Cute Bruiser: Nuku-Nuku in each and every version. The original also has fellow Robot Girl Eimi Yoshikawa. In Dash, Nuku Nuku goes from cute to outright boob-loaded, in addition to the change in hair and eye color.

Eek, a Mouse!!: Subverted. Nuku-Nuku, having a cat's brain, interprets the sight of a mouse as "YAY!" and starts chasing after it, regardless of any destruction said chasing may incur due to her gynoid body.

Grand Theft Me: "Eimi wants your body, Nuku Nuku"... and not in the fun way, either.

Lolicon: Kyusaku is accused of being one, first by Akiko due to having designed Nuku-Nuku as a Joshikousei, and later by Nuku-Nuku's Instant Fan Club due to them misinterpreting his relationship with their "Angel".

Tell me more about lolicon and about how busty your cute, innocent, outright boob-loaded catgirls (and, uh, gynoids?) are.

But what if you liked All-Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku too much to let it end with the original series? Well, in that case, maybe you'd like to peruse some of the excellent fanfic.

Making Kittens posted:

Synopsis: Nuku-Nuku's a real girl now, sort of, and guess what? She's next on the fiancee hit parade. Unfortunately for Ranma, she triggers the Neko-ken... or is that fortunately? Depends on who you ask.

"Another funny, funny short from Bre, borderline off-color but without being explicit. Part of what makes it work is that so much of it is told through dialogue, as though the reader were eavesdropping on the action."

Unnamed Nuku-Nuku Story Cycle posted:

Author of some of the best fanfic story cycles of the late 1990s, Lawson wrote a five-part series for Nuku Nuku which turned this light-comedy OVA into something deep, touching and even transcendent. The link above goes to Lawson's own page, but it only lists the first three stories in the cycle, Like Fish to a Cat, Facets of Love and What Breast So Cold. The final two installments must be found elsewhere on the Web; they are Transitions (which despite the author's note at the top is not the last part) and No Longer Than Thy Love.

Self-awareness and the ability to judge between good and bad quality stuff doesn't exist in most people. This quote I read on the Stuff Geeks Love blog (http://stuffgeekslove.wordpress.com/2008/12/02/fan-fiction/) pretty much summarizes why a site like TVTropes and the mentality of the people behind it exists (just replace "geek" with "Troper"):

quote:

Analyzing the merit of stories and themes is hard, and a geek would much rather blather on about trivia than do any serious delving. Given a geek’s shifting criteria of “rightness,” it’s possible (nay, probable) they will never actually let themselves enjoy the things they love.

  • rear end in a top hat Victim: Both sides. Fluffy herds are usually the victims of abuse, and many are annoying and deserve what comes to them. But it's hard to sympathize with the guy who gets his yard wrecked and his shoes pooped on when he proceeds to torture and mutilate the fluffies.

quote:

  • Brainwashed: Fluffies are dumb, trusting creatures and can be easily manipulated, even to the point of convincing them that rocks are food or that they never had an owner with one conversation (even when that very owner is within eyesight.) Even smarter fluffies can be subject to indoctrination over long periods of time.
  • A taser or another electrical shock can, in some stories, "reset" a fluffy and make it believe whatever you tell it for a few seconds after the shock.

quote:

  • Break the Cutie: The goal of many abusers and a side-effect of fluffy feral life.

quote:

  • Bring My Brown Pants: It is extremely easy to scare a fluffy into losing bowel control. Some depictions of fluffies have them making GBS threads themselves constantly.

quote:

  • Cold-Blooded Torture: The fate of many, many fluffy ponies at the hands of abusers

quote:

  • Death by Falling Over: Fluffies die easily, especially in comedic works.

quote:

  • Disproportionate Retribution: In spades. Making "bad poopies" (not in the litterbox, generally by accident) can get a fluffy beaten or physically/mentally tortured. Invading a human's land is at the kindest an invitation to be abused and at worst a death sentence for everyfluffy involved.

quote:

  • Eat the Evidence: Fluffies usually use this as their go-to method for hiding evidence, as they have few other options. Occasionally enforced by owners or abusers, in the case of "bad poopies" or a dead foal.

quote:

  • Electric Torture: In addition to general torture, electricity at certain levels can 'reset' a fluffy's brain, causing it to forget things or obey a suggestion made during the post-shock period.

quote:

  • False Rape Accusation: Smart female domestics who want babies will let feral fluffies mate with them and then invoke this trope. As most fluffies are bad liars and both humans and fluffies will rarely harass a rape victim, the mare usually pulls it off. Occasionally used by feral mares to advance their position (accusing the Smarty of raping them and letting the herd attack.)

While it is still horrifying that they've bothered categorizing any of it, fluffy ponies are a 4chan thing (that eventually got banned even from /mlp/ for being too creepy). It's about the same as their previous tropifying of torture porn games and shows. They should still be put on a gov't watch list, but this isn't really a new low for them.

E: found it, it's a series of shorts.

quote:

I didn t answer. Such questions, even when rhetorical, are meaningless. The saurs were sent out into the world with simple physiologies that demanded a few food pellets, water, and a litter box. Sweet natures, a few prepared phrases, a few songs. They were delivered into the hands of wealthy parents who bought them as much to show their neighbors they could afford them as to please their children. The children were told the saurs were toys and the children played with them like they were toys which meant many of the saurs were suffocated, drowned, starved, crushed, beaten, vivisected. I can go on for hours, cataloging cruelties, tragedies, mistakes: how Hubert, tortured to the point of near madness, decided to use his tyrannosaurian teeth and claws to defend himself and was almost destroyed for it; how Diogenes had been shown a box of food pellets by the father who bought him and was told, When these run out, so do you. There were stories like that behind nearly every small, strange-shaped, puzzled, puzzling face in this house.

This is how you actually make a story with that concept.
