The beta being free is the best news I've heard about EvW since it was announced. I might actually get to play it now!

This is pretty much saying "this isn't good enough to make an actual game but we'll let the community play it and give us money if they want and maybe one day it won't be rear end" I think it makes sense though, they get something out of their investment, the diehard fans get the game they've been following and Paradox doesn't release an official commercial product that makes them look bad. I wouldn't be surprised if they wanted to do something like this with MM but Ubik wouldn't go along with it.

It kind of makes sense for Paradox to announce HoI 4, assuming one of the new announcements turns out to be it. They've probably had a chunk taken out of them from the disaster that was Magna Mundi and now the impending disaster that is East vs West, so it would make sense to release another game that's historically made them a shitzillion dollars.

Pretty disappointed in EvW, apparently its impossible to make a decent Cold War game not called DEFCON.

Armstrong is named after Neil Armstrong, famed Canadian hockey player. A HOI style game that takes place in 1967, you now are at the helm of your NHL franchise and bring them to glory

Kavak posted:New update on East vs. West Yeah, this is probably for the best. I tend to give Paradox poo poo for their decisions all the time (One of the reasons why I am no longer able to post under this name on their forums, I guess!), but there were NO good options for the handling of East vs. West at this point, and they picked the least damaging one. You did well in not allowing this mess to be released officially.

Outside of clearly failing to accurately represent the period it is set in and the somewhat bizarre, but understandable idea to engage your goony fanbase, are there any other problems with EvW? I mean, yes, designing your own battleship is not exactly what I would consider to be the most important part in a game that supposedly simulates the Cold War era, but if you see the game not as a political simulator and more like HoI in the late 20th century, wouldn't it actually be a good game?

If it's not representative of the Cold War, then based on what we've seen all that's left is a pay-to-play mod built on a fairly old, fairly notorious foundation. If you want to play a war game with the gameplay of Hearts of Iron 3, then you probably already own Hearts of Iron 3. Claytor fucked around with this message at 18:01 on Jan 20, 2014 |

MinistryofLard posted:How do I keep a country in my alliance in Darkest Hour? I'm trying to keep the CSA allied with my in my KR France game. At first I thought it was because they had cores on Mexico, so I banned the Mexicans from my alliance, but they still won't stay in, even after I start acceptalling them into my alliance. I've read somewhere that your allies will leave if they have poor relations with other members of the alliance, but they've got good relations (+160 and up) with everybody else in the alliance as well (except for me now because you lose 100 relations every time they leave, but they were leaving when we had +200 relations). I've never found alliances that useful, unless you have to keep Spain off your back for some reason. All your allies ever do is steal provinces you wanted to conquer.

HOI 2 in the late 20th century would probably be an okay game. HOI 3 in the late 20th century would still carry all of the baggage of HOI 3 - too many provinces, combat system not very conducive to maneuver warfare, soulless research system, too timid war-waging AI and too many provinces Top Hats Monthly posted:Armstrong is named after Neil Armstrong, famed Canadian hockey player. No provinces (Armstrong) seems to me like it is a 4X Space grand strategy game. Ok, it's a bit of a stretch but a man can dream The other (Nero) should be Victoria 3 - Victoria Harder. You know it's time for a new and improved Vicky.
