The silliest part of this to me is that they didn't get ahead of this update and, you know, tell everyone what it actually is. I mean, I'm assuming they'll put something out today, but did they think people just wouldn't notice or care that there's now 13 god drat GB of unknown content sitting on their hard drives?

Dead Rising on launch was 19.9 GB, there was then a 5 GB patch and now a 13 GB patch. Total size of a completely patched Dead Rising 3 on my Xbox? 24.8 GB.

I understand why there needs to be compatibility patches in a co-op game, but for a DLC that I don't own, and may never own, I had to re-download 1/2 the game? That seems excessive.

Watching that Quick Look makes me wonder what Assassin's Creed even is anymore. If the combat is made so much easier you're basically tapping the button to mow through guys, and the climbing has been made so much easier there's no challenge or puzzle to the climbing, and if the main story has been dumped and is no longer really relevant, seriously, what are these games now? I went through the entirety of the second AC and thought it was a drat fine game. Liked the swordplay. Liked the Shadow of the Colossus style building climbing. I liked grabbing people and throwing them down steps. I burned out half way through Brotherhood and haven't been back. I heard AC4 is a return to form but again, combat, climbing, story, from what I've heard on the bombcasts, isn't what it has going for it. Serious question: what makes AC4 good?

Uh, not really.

I mean if we are talking quality with Assassins Creed the focus is on the mission quality rather then anything. The main reason people despised AC3 was the missions were all loving terrible. Almost all of them had dumb instakill spots, tons of extremely long tails, bad stealth, etc. Conner being less interesting was just a poo poo topping on an already poo poo cake. This wasn't counting the gameplay "improvements" that hurt the gameplay more then they added to it. And then you could throw in the additional issue of the plot being boring and completely pointless in the grand scheme of things.

Aveline is more interesting then Conner by a fair margin ( not more then Ezio/Kenway though. ), the story at least stays consistent ( the Spanish are assholes, murder this one specific Spanish guy ), and all the missions are on par with the good missions of Bro/Rev/Black Flag.

It's got some flaws, it's lacking the beefier sidecontent, it's a bit short, and the characters don't fully develop, but saying it's barely better then AC3 is silly. It's much better then AC3, and even AC1/2.

Liberation is just an Assassin's Creed rear end Assassin's Creed game. If you feel the need for even more of that annualized series, here's some more. It's not great. It's not terrible. It's just more.

Still better than AC3 though. :v:

AC stories have always been bad. The combat is actually harder in 3 than Rev, which was harder than Bros, which was harder than 2. There's still plenty of stuff to climb, and the fact that pro-gamesman Bradley Shoemaker couldn't figure out how to climb a tree alludes to the fact that it isn't a simple press forward to go up.

The fact that they just made a pirate game. The worst parts of AC4 are the Assassin's Creed bullshit forced stealth, tailing, and escort missions - especially the ones on the ship. But if you liked 1 and 2 and miss the godawful controls for climbing I think we just want different things out of games.

I have absolutely no idea, but I would hazard a guess that it's a French Canadian like half the future cast in ACIV because Ubisoft Montreal?

In what way is Aveline more interesting than Connor, by the way? What's her personality like? 'cause I would honestly struggle to describe Edward Kenway.

I'm sure regional accents were a hell of a lot stronger in the days before Radio / TV / Internet when 'normal' accents couldn't be broadcast over wide distances. The voice acting/direction isn't great though, her accent didn't sound consistent at all.

She's a raging rear end in a top hat in the best way.

She's super wealthy, and lives with her parents, but sneaks out in the middle of the night to go beat people up. When her family business starts having some issues, she visits competing merchants, beats the poo poo out of them, and then tells them to sell all their property to her. And because she's a woman and they don't want to lose face for getting their rear end beat by her, they usually do. There's a few guys who have crushes on her, and she spends most of the game making fun of them/using them due to it.

Basically she's Batman. Which isn't exactly a well written character, but it's a hell of a lot better then "I am naive/oh no you betrayed me!?" Conner.

I think they are speaking in a Cajun/Creole dialect, there should probably be some kind of Zydeco playing in the background to really sell it.

Also thought it was funny to have Brad saying that it was kind of novel to have a non-evil stepmother character for a change because she turns out to be the big bad templar at the end

Thought Liberation ended a little abruptly, but I certainly wouldn't mind seeing more of Aveline's adventures. Aveline is pretty much a Batman character but the disguise stuff and her growing her father's business is kind of a nice addition to the series.

Like the Vita Killzone game, they feel a little bit like Sony saying "hey, we can replicate the console experience competently on a handheld!", but could use a bit more fleshing out to be truly great.

No there's nothing deep and thought provoking about Ac3. Anything that might seem that way is just a coincidence. Connor just spends 90% of the game running around like an idiot man baby yelling at everyone to get along. Not to mention at no point does he try to learn anything about what is the right thing to do he just sides with whoever he took the most missions from.

What I'm saying is AC3 is real bad on a lot of levels.

I've tried playing AC3 twice now. The first time I got so bored that I couldn't even make it to the parts where you play as Conner. The second I pushed through those but gave up out of boredom again right after you get the ship. This is partly also because I had already played 4 at this point and holy poo poo are the ship controls in 3 terrible compared to 4.

Then I tried playing their crazy DLC where Washington has the Apple on a staff and is insane and has declared himself king and is trying to build a pyramid in DC and you get magic powers from a spirit quest up a sacred tree or something.

And somehow all of that was also still incredibly loving boring and joyless.

AC3 loving sucks.

I still remember the AC3 marketing, it was suppose to be a radical new change for Assassin's Creed. A true sequel that's been worked on for three years, while Brotherhood and Revelations were actually just "expansions" that were being developed on the side.

Turns out the first two years of development was like, a guy reading wikipedia.
