How was Space Marine? Worth :tenbux: to mess around with?

Mythic was supposed to be working on a 40k MMO, but I haven't heard about it in a few years.

Looks like it was Relic and Vigil that was making it, but now it's no longer an MMO, but a massively immersive single player game with online elements. Maybe Skyrim in the grim dark with some co op? This article is two years old now.

http://www.gamespot.com/articles/warhammer-40k-mmo-no-longer-an-mmo/1100-6368810/

FURTHER reading indicates that since THQ is gone, the Dark Millennium game they and Relic and Vigil were making is totally dead. A Canadian company, Behaviour, is making an MMO called Eternal Crusade and they shoot for 2015. Looks like it all comes around. The Big E wills an MMO for space marines.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/06/25/warhammer-40k-eternal-crusade-mmo-announced

Space Marine is as fun as stomping around as a space marine can be. THQ went tits up and as such there is no support, content, and the multiplayer is dead. A real shame too.

But don't fret, the director of the project indicated the plot had Titus going renegade to clean house. The guy has a new studio and just closed a kick starter deal for 250k, so let's hope The Long Dark is Space Marine 2.

I'm pretty sure that Eternal Crusade was cancelled too.

Space Marine was a pretty good game and probably would have been better if THQ was better run. A sequel would probably have been able to fix some of the weaknesses but welp.

Space Hulk was pretty disappointing and while it occasionally captured the appeal fo the game the presentation was pretty bad overall. Also it ran really bad for what should be a pretty simple game with not particularly good graphics.

Supposedly there's some sort of Apocalpyse/Epic game coming up from some other tiny strategy developer but who knows.

Since when?

The 40k license seems to be being whored out to pretty much anyone who wants it.

- Eternal Crusade (MMO)
- Storm of Vengeance (DOTA)
- Carnage (Shooter?)
- Deathwing (FPS take on Space Hulk)
- Space Wolf (CCG)

None of these are sega :(

Also the turn based strategy game, for epic looks kind of awful:

It's not cancelled and initial reports indicate that it's a cross between Planeside 2 and Space Marine. Not sure how it will actually turn out though.

Yeah, it was a blast (when it worked), if they had dedicated servers instead of whatever poo poo they where using, it would have been much better. Now I feel really sad that I never maxed my multiplayer level (just unlocked all items).

It was a pretty awesome read, but poo poo was borderline annoying after awhile.

It's pretty easy when you make sure to never let a platoon die and always remember to leave stuff on overwatch where possible. I had great success using armoured columns that would drive a single move and then disembark everyone leaving it a nice knot of Chimeras and IG teams to shoot whatever Ork thing appeared to poo poo.

They're a per-book thing - he gets fixated on some things, but next book it'll be something different, and if you put two Abnett books from different years together, you'll find they have a fairly different styles. Keeps him fresh to read.

It's going to be Panzer General > Rites of War > runs ok on Win7. This is a huge loving win, the PG style games are all about tactical wargaming and building up a unit over multiple battles. It was perfect for 40k when RoW came out and it's perfect now.

They were referring to Dark Millennium, which was an MMO, but turned into a RGP with multiplayer elements, and eventually got poo poo canned. It's neat to see another one popped up, it looks like it will be free to play to an extent, meaning you can only play orks. :getin:

Artillery. Three Basilisk squadrons, heavy weapon platoon. Repeat twice, then add a thunderhawk, pair of war hounds and more artillery. Win every single level.

Bombards work better, what with having longer range and 120 pen rather than 90, and for that one central island you need Hydras or you may as well not bother.

Years ago some goon did a Let's Play of it, and found the original unit editing tools on a yahoo group setup by one of the devs after it all collapsed. I have had a LOT of fun with them by doing stuff like making Space Marines actually not miss all the time and just making "tank Bolters" be regular Heavy Bolters.... and then giving lots of them to Orks. I also figured out how to make new weapons, so Planetary Guard became Tanith First and Only sniper teams. Good times.

I feel like I missed out man. I was vaguely aware of warhammer 40k, but I played DnD predominantly until HS. Videogames were a few FFs, starcraft, EQ and CS. I never played any of that. I had to quit that for sports, and after hs I picked up Warhammer through reading online a little bit of the Lexicanum (spelling) and than buying Eisenhorn on a whim at the bookstore. I literally had no idea about any of the series, the authors or anything. In hindsight, pretty lucky to start with Eis.

I pretend my best guys in XCOM get selected for the Astartes program . Or they are Astartes. I need to find some skins.

Epic and BFG are fun games with pretty sane rules that you don't need a billion models to play. So naturally GW hates them and wants them to die. See also Necromunda, Space Hulk, and basically the rest of the specialist games.
