Fuji can't be brought out by Canon. Fuji still have substantial optical business in many areas. For example, half of the lens used by broadcast television cameras.

I purpose Fuji buy out Sony and change the A7 name back to NEX-9. Also, make PS Vita camera to compete with Samsung.

Well, Sony owns part of Olympus now so Fuji would be well on their way to a camera monopoly.

Aside from the substantial broadcast lens business there's all the photo printing (from the kiosks that you see in stores and shopping malls, to the large scale wet and dry lab printing machines). They've also got wide format commercial printers and the whole Fuji Xerox business. Sony probably could buy them but it would probably be more of a merger if it did.

Apparently Fuji's cinema zooms, which are relatively new to market, are also spectacular. The director for Oblivion said their Fuji Premiere zooms were sharper than the Zeiss master primes they also had on set. I mean, I'd hope so given the price, but they definitely know how to make a great lens.

Can humans even distinguish sharpness at that level though?

I thought almost all of the recently new mirrorless cameras had built-in Wifi that could pair with a smartphone and couldn't the same be done with an Eye-Fi or similar product for a camera without Wifi.

Or... :thejoke:

I honestly don't know since I've never have been in a situation or have been compelled to immediately post what I've shot with my NEX-5 right at that moment. Almost any situation like that my Nokia Lumia 920's camera has been more than adequate.

If you can actually twit on the camera is a good idea. Every P&S should do that.

If it can upload to imgur and copy the BBcode and post it on the forum is even better.

Yea, apparently it's from all that experience making zoom lenses that had to resolve really well for smaller sensors. All their lenses are really great.

A note about sealed glass: Its just tape. So knowing this, does it in fact really matter that the XT1 has a very limited line up of sealed glass? No. We all used "sealed" DSLRs at some point, with regular ole glass and not once did anyone post threads warning of this issue.

On my D700, D300 and other various sealed DSLRs, I would use a Livestrong bracelet to create a gasket type seal at the metal to metal mount contact. Ill probably do that with the 18-55 and XT1.

I spent a year working in a desert environment, and my weather sealed lenses all came out fine. My un-sealed lenses all had dust and poo poo in them. It might just be tape, but there are plenty of situations where that tape matters.

Just how large is the XT1? Isn't the whole point of mirrorless the size? The moment you start adding things like a fake pentaprism housing aren't you heading towards the question of why isn't it and SLR?

To expand on this, it's not the whole point, but it's definitely an advantage. Having an EVF lets you see the image exactly as it'll look once you fire, and there's something to be said about having fewer parts (and fewer moving parts) between the scene and the sensor.

E: Also I love the ever-changing thread title.

I told myself the day Fuji released a weather sealed body and a Pro zoom was the day I switched systems entirely. I am now (happily) eating my words :negative:.

The only thing I would change is which zoom they decided to weather seal because gently caress variable aperture lenses. All of them.

Its still small. Like Holy poo poo small. No where near DIZZZLR territory.

Without the grip, its still very small. Have not seen a real world photo with grip attached but its easy to see its not going to add much heft.

Fake hump has a function. A much larger, faster, and responsive EVF.

Well, 'let's get rid of the mirror and make it smaller' was something for the various manufacturers to try as a means of defeating the Canikon DSLR juggernaut. However miniaturization alone will only get them so far, and ultimately they need to aim for a diverse ecosystem, some of which will mean sacrificing some size for other features.

It's fun to see history repeat itself because this is basically exactly what happened when Olympus made the OM-1 film bodies while the Nikon and Canon SLRs were becoming progressively bigger and bigger. Then they basically kicked off the mirrorless era.

To a certain extent I agree here though one of the things that first drew me to the XPro1 was the size and the simplicity of the controls. Admittedly the EVF on the XPro1 is useable but could be improved and if the XT1 EVF is as good as the hype it could replace the OVF but I'm not quite sure the fake pentaprism design is the way to go about it.

There are a bunch of design decisions that have been made over time with film cameras that the whole mirrorless thing had a chance to rectify. For instance the viewfinder in the middle, meaning you have to squish your nose up against the rear. Not having to bounce light that would go through to the film means designs like the XPro1 and XE1 could work rather than the XT1.

Spime Wrangler
Feb 23, 2003

Because we can.

It's all about tradeoffs, even still. Like it's been said, the middle hump gives them a lot of room to add a better EVF. It also gives them room to add a dial for the left hand and reduce the amount of wasted space on the body. Lastly, it fits the mold of what people expect a 'pro' camera to look like, which might give it a better chance of adoption by SLR-focused prosumers in the states.

And they already have the X100s, XE2, and XPro1 which don't have a hump so you can still have the humpless wonder you want.

Just going through another batch of event photos, and I'll admit I trust the OM-D over the X-E1. The focus, exposure and WB are all more robust when shooting RAW, though I suppose that might also be in part due to Lightroom's processing. I'm thinking I really should've gone with the X100s, because I still love the look the Fujis produce in non-mixed light.

Fart Car '97
Jul 23, 2003

It's quite clear the X-T1's intended target is the professionals for whom the XP-1/X100s didn't quite offer the raw performance necessary to drag them away. It became obvious very fast that people were in love with Fuji's sensor, but the AF speed and accuracy weren't up to par with their competitors. The X-T1 seems to be a shot across the bows of both the mirrorless and DLSR market, and I'm looking forward to the competition it produces :hehe:
