I really enjoyed the interviews today, as one was kind of serious with Aaron Eckhart while Jonah Hill was carefree and being as (mostly) honest as possible.

Anybody else find Aaron Eckhart to be pretty weird? Good interview, though.

Robin got a good one in this morning. Can't remember the exact wording: Howard: "I'm like Don Johnson without the looks." Robin: "So is he at this point."

I'd rather spend a thousand dollars on some meditation class than fly to Peru to roll in the dirt while some shaman twisted on peyote rubs Mike and Ike's all over my body, but that is just me.

If you search for "mindfulness meditation", you can find plenty of classes that are a hell of a lot cheaper. They don't have the same celebrity endorsements, but there's good stuff to be had.

The first minute or two of yesterday's show (I believe) were a complete mess. Robin problems, caller problems, Howard sounded relieved to get Bobo on the line and let him get things back on track, so to speak.

There's a book on the rise of pump-and-dumps and other stock schemes that were big in the '90s, called "Born To Steal: When The Mafia Hit Wall Street" -- Stuttering John's name comes up in it a bunch of times because they'd use the show to pump the lovely stocks. Years ago, The Smoking Gun had the paperwork for a few lawsuits against the show based on accusations of it. Dunno if they still do and don't have time to go check now. Hey speaking of this. I was listening to a stern show shuffle feed yesterday and they replayed a bit where John is talking about all the money he is making people on stocks. They blatantly plug a bunch of stocks and at one point Gary asks Johns "why are you telling everyone about it, now they are all gonna run out and buy it" John responds "Exactly, thats what we want" The were really running a huge pump and dump out of the studio for a few years. I am trying to find the clip on youtube..

Howard is so caught up with asking people about missed opportunities, like asking Jonah Hill about passing on The Hangover, for example, and just keeps harping on it over and over in interviews. Am I not remembering some incident where this happened to him, or is it really just anxiety over his dad and Kentucky Fried Chicken?

I like learning about what could have been, those are pretty interesting topics to hear what mistakes people made or what they turned down. I don't think it's a big deal, I mean Howard never passed on a good deal, he did get the rights to Rock and Roll High School after all.

The caller asked why he goes so easy on Benjy when he berates callers but when Shuli berates someone in there he goes off on them. Howard said he had no idea what she was even saying because he's so tired. Howard said he takes some of that stuff off the air. Benjy asked to talk to Howard now for 30 seconds. Howard told him no. He told him to take it up with Gary. Howard said he doesn't want to deal with it. Howard said it's his birthday and he wants to enjoy it. Benjy said he's not talking about his birthday. Gary told Benjy to shut up now. He told Benjy to get out of the studio now. Gary told him to get up and get out now. Howard said this is irrational. Gary said he spoke to him off the air already. Howard said he doesn't want to talk about this on the air. He said he likes Elisa and he thinks she's terrific. Howard said he doesn't have to reveal what she's doing. Howard said if he wants to talk about the birthday show he has to do it off the air. Gary said he has already talked to him off the air. He said it's over and done with. Gary had a ton of hostility in his voice.

Because they know from experience that everything Benji says, no matter how sincere he seems, is a loving stupid bit. Remember when he wouldn't reveal his birthday/age for years for no reason at all? Or about how he's related to someone famous and was weirdly evasive about it? Or when he was dressing like a grunge club kid just waiting for someone to comment? Seriously, I'd just prefer if they never acknowledge that Benji is in the studio. Or better yet, move him out of the studio and have him submit his jokes over the computer.

I'm glad they shut down benjy every loving time they do. I used to have a friend who would pull the exact same poo poo- he'll drop little tidbits of information and stop, thus prompting anyone he's talking to ask him further questions about it. Then stop. You get the idea. It is enraging and every person he meets stops playing his games really loving quickly because it is chore to participate in these enraging, manipulative 'conversations'. The only reason I can think of that people like him and Benjy do this is attention/ego stroking. It would be beneath them to simply offer news about themselves or whatever, the peons they talk to must inquire about it and pick their brain at every conceivable point because they think they are the Dos Equis man. edit: once he started loving practicing karate moves in a group of polite company while we were waiting for food. gently caress. beep by grandpa fucked around with this message at 23:43 on Jan 23, 2014 |
