fatherdog posted:Why would any of the people below her be ranked above her? Well, personally I think both Alexis Davis and Jessica Eye have more impressive wins than Tate lately, so I'd probably rank those two ahead of Tate. But then Tate was two rounds up against Zingano, until she got knocked out, so I might be very wrong.

Yeah I was going to say the same thing, on top of that Kaufman actually does have a win over Tate and actually defended her belt (even if Roxy is a very favorable stylistic matchup for her). Kaufman's wins over Tate, Shayna Baszler, and Alexis Davis trump Tate's wins over Marloes Coenen and Zoila Frausto. I would have Miesha closer to where Liz Carmouche is, which is pretty appropriate considering Sean Shelby's matchmaking here.

1st AD posted:I didn't realize you could get ranked #4 by not losing as badly as you did the first time to the champ. Also, I can't really think of any time Tate actually did anything resembling offense. Like just because Joe Rogan goes OHHHHHHHH! doesn't mean that you actually did anything important. I consider sweeps and punches to the face offense, especially against someone who was considered nearly unsweepable. When I'm ranking this many people I don't just take wins into account, I take the nature of their losses into account too. I normally wouldn't count a 3rd round stoppage where they were controlled for most of the fight as impressive except it came against Ronda Rousey. Same person who armbarred Sarah Kaufman in less than 60 seconds in a much more typical Rousey annihilation, in-between her wins over Tate and long after Tate's loss to Kaufman in 2009. For that matter I also take into account how long ago certain fights are as well, as amazingly fighters do change. In addition, for the fighters whom I've seen enough footage of I'll take consistent patterns into account, and Tate has a tendency to be crazy tough, almost to a Nogueira degree. Her comeback win against Kedzie was not a fluke in my opinion, as she did the same thing against Marloes Coenen, who would definitely be in the Top 10 here if she were a Bantamweight still. Anyway, I had a much lower opinion of Tate going in to her fight against Rousey than coming out of it, and had her ranked right next to Carmouche, for all the reasons you cited. I had heard about how much larger Tate's training camp for Rousey, apparently reinvesting her newfound TUF and sponsor money, and about her gaining muscle mass for the fight, and I pretty much dismissed it as all for naught. However she clearly was much more formidable than I'd expected. Btw this is all coming from a Ronda Rousey fan. Chrom1um fucked around with this message at 00:00 on Jan 21, 2014 |

So Titan FC's first televised show is running against Bellator's first show of the season featuring Rampage. Seems like a bad idea to run a card fronted by Mike Ricci against that even if it is Rampage/Bellator

I don't know if it's on Netflix or whatever but I recently saw a kind of funny MMA movie from Hong Kong on a flight. It's all choreographed like this and has insane amounts of fouls and taekwondo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktVJo5WBqw0 It tries to be extremely serious and dramatic but isn't very good at it. Also one of the main characters is just some guy who signed up for a pro fight and has no training, so he gets the training montage which is entirely boxing and then his coaches are like "your fight is in 2 weeks, so it's time you learned some submissions". It's very telling about the region's perception of MMA.

I bought the EA MMA game for 3 dollars at a pawn shop. I like all the Bas Rutten and getting to sleep over at Rickson Gracies gym. I loving loathe EA and their obsession with making all their sports games from this time do important stuff with the right stick. If you don't have to spend more than a value meals worth on it I recommend it for the laughs, memories, and B-leagueness.

Is there any story behind the MMA-ishness of the fight in Candyland in Django Unchained? I just remember seeing a plausible looking sweep and guillotine choke and thinking huh.

Donnie Yen was really interested in MMA when he choreographed Flash Point (and SPL, a few years prior); it was between his wushu phase and his wing chun phase. He kind of wanders from style to style picking up people's moves, like a stern Asian Mega Man.

Here's a B-League-ish question... What are the real high level MMA/BJJ gyms in the Seattle/Tacoma/WestWA area? I'm trying to make my video production degree less depressing and I'm trying to find some pro bono work for an MMA gym or fighter.

I don't. I would love to but I just don't have the time or money. As much as I would love to have nearly any aspect of MMA as a subject, I'm already offering a lot of my own resources for next to nothing in return and I'm not interested in wooing people into accepting free stuff. I'm not gonna be offended if no one gets back to me.

I do but it's not going to be available on the web until this weekend and I'm torn on whether I'd rather have a nearly 10 year old reel that isn't HD or roll the dice on the other replies for pro bono work being able to shore up a new one. Right now I'm more focused on finding people who need me more than I need them so AMCP and the Salaverry Gym might be aiming too high, I also mentioned that the offer is open to any individual fighters or trainers who needed video work. Salaverry's youtube page hasn't uploaded anything since 2011 or something though so there might be a chance there. Basically I'm trying balance my degree and willingness to relinquish rights to footage against my dude-off-the-streetness in order to get a camera on something that isn't going to put me to sleep, even if it isn't MMA related.
