More people into my favourite game. MORE ijyt posted:Wow I so focused on the urban aspect I didn't even think to use some of the Tau/badland rocks I've been working on for my 40k board. This is worth remembering. At our store we have two urban boards, one industrial and one woodland outpost going on. To be honest, unless the urban boards are loving amazing, they're fairly dull. We have a lot of potted plaza plants style on ours as a NeoTerran city and it creates a lot of Low-Viz which is really sexy. Here is our forest moon of endor board, in one of its MANY configurations: We've been treating forests a bit differently from the rulebook for ease of play and they've been a lot better as a result.

That's pretty sweet. I've some GF9 Badland rocks (because I'm too lazy to find high density foam), and I'll be just making a flat board like you rather than fancy carving because I think you can get more variety (and easier storage!) that way. I've also got it as light weight as possible, so a light thin wooden frame, blue insulation foam panels for the base. Then just give it a varnish, some sand and hang it up on the wall when not in use. The mdf terrain is great too because I can just flat pack it away and build it before the guys come over for a game. I guess I'll be going for a mining outpost feel to it then, but because none of the terrain is actually in the board itself, I can make up some roads and have the entire thing urban in relatively little effort. Want it forest-y? Throw on one of those grass mats and some trees. e: I also love how you can lift up the micro arts buildings and hide units away, the one thing I always disliked about 40k is that all the buildings are open and blown out, so there isn't as much of a stealth aspect to it. That and there's usually so little floor space you can't actually put most of a unit on the floors. The amount of chipped paint I've had to fix because of precariously placed models. ijyt fucked around with this message at 21:55 on Jan 22, 2014 |

Sounds good, keep a visual log of it too, terrain is always great to see and it's one of the most imporant parts of this game and the hobby as a whole. I'll get some pictures of our urban board if I can this week. Also Raiden spoilers! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RVp3ovjFQY

I sure will! If things pan out I'll start work on it this weekend, so I'll be sure to take photos of the various stages just because I'm certain something will go wrong. Also just to make sure, what I'm buying for my Aleph is: The Starter Pack
Deva Functionaries
Rebots
The Infinity starting out page seems to recommend the Sophotects from the Support Pack and Dasyus. ijyt fucked around with this message at 23:57 on Jan 22, 2014 |

ijyt posted:I sure will! If things pan out I'll start work on it this weekend, so I'll be sure to take photos of the various stages just because I'm certain something will go wrong. Sounds a good starting force - it's very similar to the one I started with. With a tiny bit of conversion or creativity you can make two HMG rebots out of one box, which will probably be more useful when starting out than a missile one. Sophotects are good but I've always felt in a small game it's better to have more guys who can fight than someone who has a chance to heal a downed guy. More crucially the support pack gives you Netrods, which are little antennae you pay 4pts for that give you more orders to use - but again, when starting out, you can probably do without those. Dasyus aren't bad for later purchases - they're the more elite stealth unit you can get, and so can do some fun tricks with infiltration.

Haha, I just realised that "additional view" on the product image refers to a different view of the model. I interpreted it as an unarmed robot that let another model get line of sight from that robot.

Man, if you like the Deva models then go crazy with them. I don't like the figures personally, but their stats and abilities are absolutely fantastic for line infantry. Like, Odas with specialist loadouts and auxbots. Crazy good.

Picked up the Haqq starter. Thinking about the support pack as well. Any other must-haves I should look at? I'm probably gonna pick up Saladin, as that model is pretty cool.

Saladin is good, but he's more for the 250-300pt scale. He's got some beastly good rules, like Strategos L3 and WIP16 to back that up. Consider Hafza to protect him as they can disguise themselves as other models.

Naffatun are goddamned amazing. Just outright stellar, to the point where it's painful playing 300pts in one combat group in Haqq because you can't actually fit in cheap models like Naffatun even though they're amazing.

The one good thing I have found is nothing seems to need pinning if you use accelerator; even the TAGs, which are hefty lumps of metal, have very well-designed contact points that lock into place. Admittedly I've not built any of the really awkwardly designed ones like the Dragao with its giant shoulder chaingun and comically large ammo belt, or the Caskuda which is just absurdly big.

I have a short rules question. Is the PH roll for remotes before the combat jump in addition to the normal PH roll that determines dispersion? From the FAQ: "Remotes with Combat Jump will have to perform a PH Roll in order to jump. PH determines the automation and programming level of their jumps."
