Thanks for the suggestions. When I looked up the boss ce-5 it turns out some of the artists (Simon Gallup, Justin Chancellor) I listen to that use chorus use that exact pedal, so I will definitely be picking that up.

Yeah it's super solid! And so cheap too! can find the for 30 on ebay and built like a tabk. I made a mistake of trading mine for a nicer(more expensive) pedal and kind of regret it.

Got a tc gravy chorus (mostly wanted the vibrato for guitar) and it definitely lacks the flexibility/shine of the ce-5.

Update: I am an idiot.

Checked the cab, even put electrical tape on the wires near the speaker thinking it could be rubbing. Still had an issue. Checked head, borrowed another and still had an issue. Tried other cab, same thing.

The guitar duh.

I have a short scale SG EB-3 knock off and recently down tuned it. the extra slack made all the E flabby which made the amp buzz.

Tuned it back to E, only the 3/4 fret is still giving issues but that is only if I let them ring out. Thinking about tuning a half step up might get rid of it but that would make playing/following a bit weird.

Knew this when I got the bass but it just plays and feels so comfortable. Don't know why I didn't go to this in the first place.

Any suggestions to get rid of the last buzzed notes? I currently have .90 on the E. maybe use flat wounds?

edit: when I hit that note and push on the mesh the noise stops completely. is there any feasible way to hold the grill there?

thinking if running a wide-flat headed pin and on the other side have it held in by jamming it an eraser on mesh on the other side on the inside?

or maybe sew some thread into place? dunno.

Oh man, I've been there. When I was recording with my old band, we must have spent 2 hours trying to track down an elusive buzz on the bass track, before the engineer finally suggested raising the action on my bass.

You could try a heavier E string. I personally would want at least a .100 for a short scale bass.

I have fixed it a bit by pulling back the volume on my neck pick up. Its a simulated hummucker so it has that deep thick growl but, a bit more pleasing than the EB-3.

Also, I took apart my cab two times because it seemed to come a bit more out of my emperor. And it is almost completely resolved, it was one loose screw against a metal grommet. And it wasnt even "loose" it just wasnt tightened as hard as I loving could.

Everything sounds much better now, I think I might switch back to a .100, I tried .90 on recommendation from a friend. Is there any particular reason that this would be better, I went in with the assumption that .90 would be better since it would be tighter? Am I completely wrong. I have always been an amp nerd and just learning the completely ins and outs of guitar build and would love a little tip or explanation.

I replaced to the .90 when I noticed a buzz in the same area but, it should be noted that since getting a fret leveling I have not tried the .100s

Pretty much. A lighter gauge string is always going to be a bit looser and less focused than a heavier gauge due to the lower tension. The short scale of your bass will exaggerate the effect even further.

Think about it this way, if you tuned your A string down to E, and it somehow remained playable, how do you think it would sound? Probably like one of Kirk Johnson's farts. Likewise if you tune any string a step or so higher than normal it will sound tighter and more focused.

Okay, awesome. Yeah I was told the exact opposite, maybe I was just told that heavier gauges would be more farty?

What should I consider replacing it with, I might just buy a replacement E and see how that goes.

I think Jaco's bass tone was horrible. It's basically at the exact opposite end of the scale from Fieldy's; Nasal honking instead of mud farts.

Jaco was an amazing player but I don't think I could ever actually listen to him for enjoyment.

If it can make a person sound half as baked as Fieldy, I'm still going to avoid it. Although maybe in his case it's a combination of dope and multiple head injuries.

Also I think Jaco got a better tone out of his fretted than his fretless.

You aren't the only one, Jaco sounds terrible in spite of his skill. Gets me thinking about basses that are marketed as having "vintage tone," like a lot of Fenders. I don't understand why "vintage tone" is supposed to be a selling point. Its almost the same as saying "hey, this bass is the least versatile thing you'll ever play, that'll be $2000 please"

I personally wouldn't equate vintage tone with Jaco's tone, but I think that's probably the reason they use the term. It's really just designed to appeal to the nostalgia of the bassist version of Bluesdads. When you think of the range of different sounds and styles that have been played on Fender basses over the years, 'vintage tone' could mean any number of things (which probably have far more to do with how the bass was recorded than anything else).
