It's not an all or nothing situation, there is a middle ground in editing it. Though on the other hand, movies that were bold enough to use more static camera angles for their fight scenes (Haywire?) were praised for doing so. So, hey. You don't need a camera jerking and cutting around to tell you that action is happening. You can just show it.

Seriously, can anyone tell me what actually happened blow-by-blow and spatially when Crixus killed those dudes at the end of the last episode, without going through it frame by frame? (Even then I think you would struggle.)

Because you don't always want the same thing out of a fight scene. Sometimes slow and deliberate fulfills what you need from a scene better than a frantic fight. Slade killing those guys wasn't supposed to be clean or clear, the scene was set up to demonstrate that he was unpredictable, bloodthirsty, and powerful, filming the scene in the way that they did does all that while still maintaining a certain level of his mystique. We're supposed to be afraid of his power without really understanding it, which won't come until he meets Arrow.

It could be a reference to Trigon, though technically Trigon doesn't have much to do with "gods" per se. I'd love it if that line was meant to establish some sort of strange mystical stuff going on with Blood that even Slade isn't aware of.

Western hemisphere Latino culture is a strange mix of Catholicism and indigenous religion--saying the gods are dead is a totally normal statement for that type of culture, and probably would mean something like "well if this is happening God clearly doesn't care and must have abandoned me" in English. I don't think it's meant to be interpreted as anything particularly significant.

That was pretty intense, huh?

Apparently Katie Cassidy is method as gently caress since it's been speculated that she dropped a significant amount of weight to look gaunt for Laurel's drug addict arc. Guess that explains her Dorito shaped face.

For reference. This was Katie last season:

And from this season:

So just this week I caught up after binging through the series for the past couple weeks.

I cannot believe how good this show is. It's everything Agents of SHIELD should be.

I absolutely love the fact that they already had Deathstroke originally appear in a costume that was pretty close to the one he had in the comics, only for him to change costumes to one that looks even MORE like its from the comics.

She's been popping pills with an almost ridiculous frequency for a little while now, pills that the show acknowledged as being her father's last week (though you could see they were his by looking at the label of the pill bottle a couple episodes back.)

This was definitely foreshadowed.

When was that film shot? Her face is obviously fuller there. She looks a lot more haggard on Arrow than she does in that still.

Filming began May, 2012. Don't know when that pick was shot. But it was before last season finished shooting, definitely.
The movie is called 'The Scribbler'.

The one thing that tipped most people into thinking Katie dropped the weight on purpose is that her dad said straight up said "you look like hell" last episode. The show's narrative is obviously aware of Laurel looking like dogshit due to her substance and drug abuse.

She's been trying to do more normal acting roles. I don't think her being in it correlates at all with the level or amount of sex in the movie.

Maybe it's the makeup hiding it from me, but I just think she looks thin as gently caress, not "unhealthy". It's not like she's growing fur on her arms and can't walk without getting out of breath.

I think it's pretty accurate as to how people will change when they get addicted to certain drugs, having seen it myself, the weight loss is certainly a part of it and while she doesn't look quite as bad as she probably should (this is the CW after all) the gaunt faced look is definitely a thing that happens and I'm pretty sure that's what they're going for.

The issue is of course that she is an attractive actress in a teen CW show and they aren't going to do the sallow haggard look as realistically as they could because Laurel still has to be attractive and not look like an actual crackwhore.

When someone you know starts abusing painkillers and stops eating they lose weight. Losing weight like that will make them look like crap. They don't need to be looking strung up to look terrible. I think they have also been doing some extra cheek makeup and probably something to add a bit of yellow/green to her face to really drive it home.

Katie Cassidy also looked pretty different as Trish on Harper's Island a few years back so I think she's just a master of disguise.

Also hello I have finished catching up on this show way too quickly thanks to being stuck at home all week taking care of a young puppy.

And also because it's addicting as hell. I came for Solomon Grundy and stayed for absolute insanity.

Er, no.

The religion is so ingrained on the popular collective than is easier for people to kill themselves than accept than God is dead, also, we got plenty of saints but only one true god.

Agree on than the line could be lacking any deeper meaning though.

Yeah, I'd imagine a bow and arrow could be even more dangerous than a gun. A bow doesn't have a safety and there are no blanks except for boxing glove arrows, of course.

The callout was Dexo's post, which was a pretty transparent attempt to rustle up some drama.

And as for the careers or pornstars, the only reason I even know who Sasha Grey is is she played a main character in Saints Row III. And, come to think of it, disappeared in IV.

Kibayasu posted:

Hell, there's a book of regs about what he can and can't do as far as stunts are concerned period. The way it was explained to me has to do with insurance and what it would cost if an actor were injured on set vs a stunt actor who has risk of injury and such in their contract. I imagine it'd be the same in the eyes of the law if Amell was both lead actor as well as a trained stunt actor. Since he's billed as lead, insurance treats him as lead, and thus won't cover/will ratchet up the premium if he starts doing the job of a stunt actor.
