I kinda liked NewsRadio when I watched it a couple years ago - saw the first season and a handful of episodes of the second - but....well, there wasn't anything wrong with it, it just felt like the TVIV hivemind had overrated the absolute hell out of it. Being told it's the best sitcom ever, with the best cast who work better with each other than in any other sitcom, is not a good way to introduce someone to that show, considering that the bits I saw at least were barely above average for the era. Maybe it gets better though.

It might also be a show that worked in a certain time and space. I grew up with it, and was fortunate enough to rewatch it in my late teens and early 20's. It really had a large part in shaping my sense of humor and sensibilities. So I'm admittedly, very biased.

Yes, Newsradio may have been diminished by the shows that came after it (AD, 30 Rock, etc), but at the time it was a loving masterpiece. It also still holds up amazingly well for a show that's nearly 20 years old.

Well, if you believe Bryan Fuller (and you really don't have to, I'm just saying), he says that he was so excited about the ending he came up for Season 2 that he just couldn't wait to show it. I don't know, to me he's one of those "If anyone could pull it off..." writers.

Also, FWIW, anybody who's seen the first two episodes of Hannibal will say that it's back with a vengeance.

Yes, the entirety of Leverage is on Netflix streaming.

Whoever called it a combination of The A-Team and Ocean's Eleven was pretty spot-on, but it's more 75% Ocean's and 25% A-Team. The cast is solid and has really great chemistry, which surprised me -- Timothy Hutton is generally a complete non-starter for me. Some of the plot contrivances to pull off each heist get a little hokey sometimes, but it's always a lot of fun. I can't think of a single genuinely bad episode in its five-season run, and they always managed to get some excellent guest stars: Wil Wheaton, Mark Sheppard, Goran Visnjic, and several more.

I don't know if I'd buy it, but give it a few more years and I bet we get a Bob's Burgers soundtrack released of all the songs they use in the show, sort of like that Simpsons' one.

I found myself humming around that "It's not magic, it's tragic! Somethingsomething straightjacket!" song from the magic show episode all last week.

Even songs like the other Thanksgiving song where Linda is singing something like, "Kill the turkey!" just make me grin.

3) If Israel gets to be in then so should the US :colbert:

UPN was still a far more interesting network than The CW has ever been. I remember watching Lars Von Trier's Dancer in the Dark on UPN back in the day. The CW has never shown anything nearly that interesting.

The one good thing The CW has done is air new episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway?

Mu Zeta posted:

Well, in the early 90s, the channels that would become UPN were just UHF stations that got bought out by Paramount. For example, WDCA-20 where I lived in Maryland became "Paramount 20," I can't remember if that was before or after TNG started airing but I'm pretty sure it was a couple years after, and aside from the Star Trek shows they were pretty much the same stations they always were. When they changed it over to UPN in the mid-90s, that was when they started trying to branch out to other, non-Star Trek things with such memorable programs as The Secret Diaries of Desmond Pfieffer and Homeboys in Outer Space.

I'm not sure but I think UPN was also partly owned by Fox. I remember going to the UPN station once to pick up screener tickets I won for X-Men 3 from one of those things where they show the Secret Word during a commercial break and you call in with it, and it was the same building as the local Fox station. I think the Fox-owned ones were the stations that evolved into MyTV instead of CW.

Also, they spend too much time talking about Tim Tebow to this very day. This is the guy that NBC wants to take over what used to be the number one morning show.
