If I could get ahold of fight footage I would 'Reem it up with any local casino fighter. That's kind of the angle in offering to at least talk to ANYONE from these places. If someone's willing to subject themselves to it I'm perfectly able.

Is tonight the greatest moment in Dominick Cruz's life?

No.

The greatest moment in my life was realizing that I didn't need a belt to be happy.

Intel&Sebastian posted:

I do but it's not going to be available on the web until this weekend and I'm torn on whether I'd rather have a nearly 10 year old reel that isn't HD or roll the dice on the other replies for pro bono work being able to shore up a new one.

Right now I'm more focused on finding people who need me more than I need them so AMCP and the Salaverry Gym might be aiming too high, I also mentioned that the offer is open to any individual fighters or trainers who needed video work. Salaverry's youtube page hasn't uploaded anything since 2011 or something though so there might be a chance there.

Basically I'm trying balance my degree and willingness to relinquish rights to footage against my dude-off-the-streetness in order to get a camera on something that isn't going to put me to sleep, even if it isn't MMA related.

Is it possible to rent cheap equipment or borrow a camera from a friend and ask any jiu jitsu/MMA gym in the area, even the smaller crappier ones, if you can just film there for a day to update your reel? That way you're not there offering services, instead you're just a film dude off the streets who has a passion for MMA and would like to update his portfolio with footage that matters, instead of the usual film school bullshit.

And if you can make a decent "MMA reel" from that, you could take those to the bigger places and see if you get any takers. And you never know, those smaller gyms might like what you do and ask you to do some work.

In another life I would love to make MMA documentaries with my film schooling too so I'd love to hear you succeed. That's my advice unless you can do like Willie said and make real friendships at those gyms.

Yeah not a bad idea at all, I'm hoping someone actually gets excited about the idea and replies just so I could have an interested partner but I have a feeling sooner or later I'm just going to want the footage to play with. I recently got ahold of a Canon Vixia hf100 and a few different lenses for it which is what prompted the recent "Maybe I should start shooting stuff again" thing. I'll probably end up renting down the road but I've been pretty impressed playing around with this for now.

I think you absolutely should do it because there isn't really a glut of MMA documentaries. Yeah you have some guys trying to do video blogs on their own but most of them aren't very good. It's probably the one area of MMA that isn't saturated and needs talented people.

I'd say start small on purpose and really get good at it. Your passion for MMA will take you far with the small stuff, and then sooner or later an opportunity will present itself. It always does.

Thanks for the encouragement B-Leaguers, I might just narrow my focus to just MMA. If for nothing else I can get some stories for here.

Anyways I'll stop talking about this after I drop this fun story from my schooling: Back in like 2003/4 when I was at the AIS one of the earlier projects I had to do was in a class taught by a guy who did a lot of sports production for a local channel. He had a bunch of high school football footage he would give us and 4 different voice overs, each one would kind of drive how you edited. When I got them all home I realized all the voiceovers were complete poo poo and I hated them. I contacted the guy and asked if it'd be alright if I got someone else to read the same script, he said that'd be alright. So on a longshot I emailed Fragmaster the script and asked if he would re-record it and he surprised me by emailing back the greatest goddamn highschool football v/o ever, it was bombastic and loud and just sounded like testosterone on tape. The teacher asked if he could include it as an option in the future and as far as I know it's still being used.

Get something that's not a handheld tiny chip camcorder, like a used T2i and a couple cheapo prime lenses. We're probably past the point where anyone will take your work seriously if it doesn't have short depth of field and even a cheap DSLR will look better than anything but the best small chip video cameras.

Do you know any AE, Nuke, anything like that?

You should steal appropriate Roland's submission stats and make an infographic video and show people that, doesn't require anything but your time and maybe pulling some stock images from Google.

I have a few ins with the local Casino's here and one of the options I was considering was contacting them to see if they could use that sort of thing so that's encouraging.

gently caress! I missed this. How did Justine Kish do? This was her first fight at 115116.8, and I'm of the understanding she's a really good prospect ('twas a World Champion in Muay Thai, beat Munah Holland in her MMA debut).

According to Dave Doyle on the tweeter, she punch-kicked Randa Markos pretty handily for the first two rounds, but nearly got caught in an armbar in the third. He hopes both can make it to the TUF 20 house.

(I enjoyed watching her Muay Thai highlights while writing up my preview of that fight for Championship Rounds)

Ah thanks. Apparently Kish also missed weight by a bit? I updated the rankings I put on page 17 or so but since Kish missed weight and this was her Strawweight debut, I put her in as an unranked insert. Kish has the better chance of making the show but missing weight in one's last fight is a really bad sign, even if it was just by a pound, considering you have to make weight 3 times in 6 weeks to win the show.

Lähdemäki seems like someone to keep an eye on but it's also worth noting that she's a Flyweight, and that's where the match took place. I may do some sort of hype thing for Flyweights at some point but that division is in recovery mode (which Invicta is facilitating somewhat by giving it more attention).

On an earlier note, I pointed out that Titan FC was having their debut show on CBS Sports on the same day as Bellator's opening card of the season featuring Rampage and apparently CBS Sports and they are aware of this and from what TitanFC tweeted at me, they're going to be understanding about the ratings/viewers for this card

So Palhares will be fighting for the WSOF title against Steve Carl and his old manager is on the MMA Hour right now

Funny things:

Palhares came from a farming community where he fought mosquitos with axes and didn't have hacksaws or tractors.
He was shocked by the big wide world.
Doesn't understand anything and is literally functionally retarded, but he's with a sports psychologist now.
