They could do a Victory Star Destroyer. Sure not technically from the films, but it has the same form factor as the bigger ones.

Yeah, though it's still 10x longer than the transport. Even taking liberties with scale(as they're doing with the corvette and the transport) it's still going to take up a huge portion of the board.

A Viccy is too large, its 900 meters! Granted they don't have to do scale, but if it was the same size as the Medium transport, that'd be disapointing.

Then again, if they did the Victory, that means a possible chance of a Vice Admiral Thrawn card. :swoon:

I think it's a variety issue of the ships themselves. Outside of all the iconic movie moments that tie the Rebel ships back to those experiences the TIE's just kinda reconfigure the panels a bit and then get a new name. They fit in with the faceless/non-unique human wave tactic of the Empire.

I would really like to see a 3rd faction like smugglers/mercs/something get some mixed in Z-95's and some of the expanded universe stuff. Or a way a ruleset outside of homegrown to mix them up.

I finally purchased this game. I'm pretty excited, as I've been playing Attack Wing for a couple of months. I'll also be doing our local store's OP, because I enjoy organizing games for some reason.

I've got the main box and the burger ship, and I'm thinking of getting some A Wings next, but is there anything they need from other expansions to make them really good?

The X-wing and Tie Fighter standalone versions come with cards for those ships that are really, really good. Everything else is pretty much a matter of which ships you want to play with.

It probably sits on the side in the center and you move from there. Leads to arcing turns in other naval games, so it's probably similar.

I'm assuming that moving straight doesn't have any surprises, but banks look pretty clever. You put the notch in the template on the back corner of the front base, then move the front corner of that base so that it nestles into the first corner of the template for a length 1 bank or the second for a length 2 bank.

This is what I think also. Ages ago they said they wanted to convey a sense of mass with the movement template for the Gr-75 and it doesn't look like it'll disappoint.

I really cannot wait to torpedo it with my TIE Bombers though.

I've thought the same thing, but I've been reading some articles about how effective they can be as cheap support ships/turrets.

I haven't played with one myself yet, but I do kinda like the idea of Katarn, with Recon Specialist and the Moldy Crow title producing and spreading insane numbers of focus tokens among a little fleet of missile/torpedo toting ships.

Similarly, Garnet is the cheapest named pilot you can get, and boosting a PS to 12 can let you get off that critical shot with something cheap before your opponent's Fel/Vader/Wedge/Han. Just fly a ring of Rookies or whatever your cheap ship of choice is at Range 2-3 in front and pick the one you want pulling the trigger early each round.

I dunno. I'm intrigued enough by the stuff I've read to give the HWK a shot- though probably on Vassal rather than on the table, as it's the only ship I haven't picked up yet.

drat, I've got a wonky'ish TIE, might give that a try.. it's not a massive issue, just bugs me a bit.

Had a game last night, I played imperials vs my friends rebels. 100 points on the nose, ended up taking the best part of 3 hours (the first kill was recorded somewhere around the 2 hour mark)

I don't know if it took so long due to some hilariously bad dice attack dice and some fortuitous defence dice or what but 3 hours felt like a long time to play 100 points. How long do your average games last at 100 points?

My TIE fighers have never felt so robust.

That's what I thought would be the case, we had some seriously jammy dice rolling so I suspect that's the main cause. Millennium Falcon finally went down around the 2 and a half hour mark after spending most of the game colliding with TIE fighters, if it hadn't have flown into so many other ships, it might have been able to get a focus token or two which would have helped its chances in taking down TIE fighters and the like... which would have sped up the game no end :)

A good game all the same, so I can't complain too much :)

Doctor Rope
I would highly recommend placing a time limit on the game. When you get close to time, the person losing will fly far more aggressive and that's when you get shots off that kill ships/get your ships taken out. Not to mention if you had a 60 minute time limit, you could have gotten three games in instead.

I usually play with a 70min time limit since that's what is used in a tournament. Yesterday I played two games simultaneously against different opponents in about 60 minutes. 3hrs is insane, how big was your play area?

A time limit might be a good idea to suggest for next time just to avoid the inevitable stale mate at the end, I'll speak to my regular opponent and see what he thinks (in all honesty, it would suit our Sunday evenings perfectly; I got home at 11:30pm last night.. not something I'd planned on and suffered for it today :))

My list was...

2 x Academy pilot
1 x Maarek Stele w/ Squadron Leader, Cluster Missiles
1 x Krassis Trelix w/ Ion Cannon, Cluster Missiles

Opponents list was, roughly...

1 x Rookie pilot
1 x Arvel Crynyd w/ Cluster Missiles
1 x Chewbacca w/ Millennium Falcon, Cluster Missiles, some other bits and pieces

His list was bang on 100 though, as was mine.

The falcon spent a lot of time crashing into TIE fighters, which stopped it getting focus tokens and whatnot, so his shooting was hampered by that. The A-wing made some silly moves down the side of the board and had my Firespray chasing it for half the game. The X-wing didn't seem to do much until very late on in the game when it took down a TIE fighter and the TIE Advanced.

I was gunning for him the whole time, I think the dice were just being very generous to both of us :) (i.e. one attack on a near crippled TIE fighter, he rolls 1 hit and 2 criticals, I roll 3 focus in defence, I took the focus action previously so just negated that whole lot.. next one.. rinse and repeat, I've never seen so many evade results on those dice)

We didn't use any asteroids at all either as this was only my opponents 2nd or 3rd game, we'll throw them in next time (I have some modelling ideas for those that I want to get done as soon as I can)

So far I've got:

Have you ever watched Star Wars and thought you could have done better than those TIE Pilots? Or wanted to be in command of a small squadron of elite X-Wing and Y-Wing pilots blasting TIE Fighters out of the sky? Come and play X-Wing miniatures with us, a miniatures game where you are put in command of a small group of starfighters from the original trilogy.

I ran a Rebel list last night with Han with Expert Handling and holy poo poo, a Millenium Falcon with barrel rolls is ridiculous for the amount of ground you can cover.

EDIT: Also, I'm running a game day for my local shop and here is the blurb I just put together if you want to steal any of it:

Come down to Dark Tower Games on February 22nd to play some games of the X-Wing: Miniature Game with lots of friendly people! Whether you're a seasoned veteran or a rookie pilot, this will be a great chance to fly some spaceships around the table and make laser sounds while having lots of fun! Flight instructors will be on hand for those just dipping their toes into the game with demo games running throughout the day. Even if you don't own any models, this is a great chance to try before you buy! All ages welcome! See you there!

The Z-95 will add an interesting dimension. I don't think it'll be effective as a TIE Swarm but pair it with Assault Missiles and it will be a challenge until we figure out some counters. The TIE Defender could be solid as a support ship but drat it's expensive.
