roach cum puddle posted:I'd tell the thread "we're trying to build things up here not tear them down", but apparently using words from the lexicon of a podcast that is a giant part of your life labels you a creepy weirdo. Their long detailed screed and their general overly serious while struggling for some sort of legitimacy as a pseudo-official fanclub Tumblr thing of a comedy podcast vibes just sorta go against the laidback "no obs" vibes of UYD. We're just a bunch of straight bros watching the Lakers game and finding out what these dicks do. No games, no drama. They're very "fandom" if you know what I'm trying to say and it's just sorta lame IMO, it's a very fine line, you can try to make some attempt to equate it to this UYD thread but it's not really the same (or hell you'd be right, maybe it has been at certain moments, fleeting moments of lameness here still don't invalidate their creepy weirdo status though). I comprehend the childish nature of the whole "U MAD BRO"/"HAH YOU'RE TAKING SOMETHING SERIOUS!!!" vibes of the internet, but on some level they've just gone too deep (I'm reminded of Inception here). They're also sort of holding Seth and Jah to weird unnecessary pedestals given their positions as comedians essentially, like they've had plenty of dumb opinions and said a lot of stupid poo poo, I listen to UYD because it's fun and humorous and I enjoy their chemistry and interplay together not because I think they're always absolutely on point (for example I was totally rolling my eyes during that recent Seth rant about the NBA, so totally wrong and basically him becoming his gym teacher who'd rant about Michael Jordan). Like no, maybe they are not really nice dudes? Who gives a gently caress? They're just human beings that make me laugh from week to week. Creepy weirdos? I don't know about that since that's such an extreme loaded phrase that might be better used in regards to the truly crazy, I just think the normal response to being banned from an internet forum is to just shrug and move on and there's a certain class of individual who is more likely to respond by launching a crusade or long letter of complaint on Tumblr. I mean c'mon, the dude above me wrote paragraphs worth of words saying "people who write paragraphs worth of words because they got banned for no reason from a forum based on something that's a big part of their life and they're defending themselves are crazy!!!" Podcasts have allowed people to become best friends with someone they've never met, and I think it's silly to look at a fan of something like UYD where it has it's own dedicated wiki to everything ever said on the show, and call them crazy because they use words one of the podcasters uses or because they were upset they got banned from the forums when in reality most of the people here are the locafied ones. My problem is that people here are hypocrites. roach cum puddle fucked around with this message at 07:37 on Feb 4, 2014 |

I just think the normal response to getting banned from an internet forum is to move on. That's all. UYD should be a big part of your life in a light positive sense, a comedy podcast that entertains you from week to week, not something you form grievances and manifestos about. Can we all agree that this dude can gently caress off, and it's 2006 for life??? vvvvv Hahahah, I was making fun of you through your eyes not mine. My whole point is that if you're a diehard fan of UYD you're crazy by default so don't be a lovely shithead belittling other fans just because they do things you deem as "super loving weird". I spent over $500 just to fly and see two people stand on a stage for an hour, there's a lot crazier things fans do than be upset and write words on a blog. It's the whole mantra of the show, build things up not tear them down. All I'm saying is don't throw other fans under the bus calling them crazy BECAUSE EVERY ONE OF US WHOSE LISTENED TO HUNDREDS OF HOURS OF UYD IS CRAZY

Seth possessed a photograph of one of the children. This impressed Jonathan with how insane it was, and they became friends. This makes a lot more sense, actually. I know I should probably just start from ep 1 but what's Seth's reasoning for keeping that in his wallet? How did they come up with the internet radio idea? I'll listen to the episode where they cover either of those topics if anyone knows them.

I love the show as much as anyone but... Yeah. I mean, my fiancée is a giant part of my life, or my dog, or my number one hobby or my career. UYD is just my favorite comedy podcast. I'm honestly not judging, I more said that stuff to point out that I just think maybe people have a different definition of what constitutes obsession versus normal fandom which causes friction. I thought what you said is a good example of how people can describe the level of their fandom in ways that can be construed as, well, a bit obsessive. Damo posted:If a weekly comedy podcast is "a giant part" of your life, no offense but how empty is your life, exactly? Or maybe we just have different definitions of the word giant. It's an obvious idea, but yeah podcasts are interesting because it's the first medium where you can be in a conversation without talking and "become friends" with someone you've never met. If someone said Seinfeld was a big part of their life I'd say that's miles different than UYD, because Seinfeld is a TV show of actors reading lines whereas UYD is 400 hours of two best friends letting you be a part of their lives through a medium that's very personal. I don't wanna go into a long review on why I think UYD is the greatest entertainment that's existed or will ever exist... The most basic way of explaining it's a big part (GIANT was a stretch) of my life I guess is that I've listened to probably 1,000+ hours of these fools talking over the years and when one of them dies I'm going to bawl my eyes out as if my whole family was slowly murdered. I'm a big fan of Seinfeld, I would watch hours a day with my roommate and we'd quiz ourselves with trivia we created about the plots and characters, but it's not a big part of my life because TV entertainment being a BIG part of someone's life would be sad. The difference is, and maybe people who aren't UYD fans more than just "This is really funny I like it" won't understand, I don't see UYD as just entertainment it's a way of life. A podcast like this I think naturally brings out obsessiveness because ~~~~ I'm tired of explaining myself. There's people in here who'll understand and who won't, but it's 2006 for life. I'm perfectly fine with being called obsessive about UYD because I'm very aware that I am, it's easy to be and I'm sure a lot more UYD fans than not are obsessive. That was part of my point earlier. If you're 2006 for life then these two dudes have entered your little bubble of existence and've sculpted what you know and hear about going on outside of it like they have mine and it's silly / immature to judge a person calling them crazy and loving weird for being upset they got banned from a podcast's forum where the podcast is something to them that's yeah all of what I'm saying. Hopefully this makes sense to people who aren't as big of fans as some of us? It's funny because I always just assumed if you listened to UYD you'd take a bullet for Jah and Seth, I forget some people just see it as entertainment and that's where the line gets blurred of obssesive and weird/crazy/delusional. roach cum puddle fucked around with this message at 19:11 on Feb 5, 2014 |

I think the idea of the relationship between podcasters and their fanbase is a really interesting topic, one that would take paragraphs to put my thoughts into words about along with why UYD is what I think it is. Even though for my point to fully get across I'd have to do that, I'm just going to say (because apparently I'm coming off a little strong with the words I'm using and feel I need to defend myself a little??) that I take UYD for what it is. When I'm listening to UYD I'm catching a glimpse through the looking glass of their lives and the universe of news they've created, but when the episode is done that's where the looking glass ends. I don't search where they work or google map Seth's address or anything like that, I don't text Jah, when I saw them live in Dallas with a friend I just sat there after the show and waited for them to talk with us when they had the chance, I understand they're just two normal humans talking into microphones about things going on in America. With that said, I believe UYD is a way of life and I believe Jah and Seth would strongly agree with that statement. What they've created is more than entertainment, but they themselves are only entertainers. That's where people are confused I think? I'm obsessed with the show, I'm not obsessed with them and there's a big difference. They're just best friends talking, but the spiritual entity of UYD is what's the way of life. ---- It can all be summed up by saying that UYD is the soul of America and Seth and Jah are the conduits of that soul. roach cum puddle fucked around with this message at 05:10 on Feb 6, 2014 |
