The Top Gear test track is in google street view, now. Wonder what the google prius's time was?:

E: lol @ Stig drifting a Mercedes past the Prius around Hammerhead. I hope they do a segment about this. You can see cameramen at some spots, so... fingers crossed!

I would be OK with an entire hour long Top Gear episode of all the guys driving somewhere boring in boring cars in real time. I bet the James May one would be a fascinating discussion of mechanics and machines.
James May already did that. It's where we found out that he doesn't actually know how to get to work.

Retro hot hatches

Because the Top Gear presenters are middle-aged, they have very fond memories of the Eighties and, in particular, what they believe was the ‘golden age’ of hot hatchbacks. With this in mind, the producers decided to set the silly old fools a challenge. “You three go out and buy an old hot hatch each,” they said, “then meet up for some challenges where we, white-coated swines that
we are, will attempt to prove you’re talking out of your increasingly arthritic arses…”

Oh god, Richard in the Trans-Am as Burt, James in the truck as Jerry Reed, and Clarkson chasing them as the sheriff. That would be awesome.

Doesn't matter to me actually, I can't watch it till it shows up on what ever channel we get it on over in Canuckastan anyway. :) But I love hearing about it early. I've been going through what they have on Netflix lately with the WIFU. She loves the show! But it might be the accents...

Cheap hot hatch challenge started well but got a bit stupid/scripted in the last segment. I still laughed a lot throughout the episode though.

Yeah, there were some ok jokes in there but overall it dragged on far longer than it should have and now I'm looking forward to the next Roadkill and Chris Harris on Cars even more.

Ha, the restoration centre is a film studio in Bristol - the shutter where they rolled the cars out used to be my parking space.

e: this bit with the keys is interminable.

e: oh, makes sense now - they filmed Trollied in that studio which is where that supermarket set comes from.

Loved the Top Gear Police motto:

Ambitiose sed ineptum

Ambitious but rubbish.

I laughed the hardest when Hammond's car had a knackered engine but he still had a ridiculously optimistic facial expression.

Yeah, it wasn't great with the scripting, but still a pretty solid season start in my opinion.

I think the Chevy was a Suzuki, the Nova here was the Opel Corsa everywhere else, which then became the Vauxhall Corsa after a while here.

I was almost speechless at the hazard light ignition hack, which a cursory google says is totally true. God drat. :downs:

It started promising but got very old towards the final third of the episode. God knows why they decided to draw out a 15 min challenge to take up an entire episode...guess there were not many good cars to review or something.

Obviously it was scripted, but I did enjoy the stunt where Clarkson climbed out of his window and over the car.

Yeah I thought it was kind of a meh episode. Would have been more fun if they could have gotten non-crap cars like the Escort Cosworth Clarkson loves or a Lancia Delta Integrale.

One thing I am looking forward to is the Mercedes G63 6x6 review they teased in the preview video!

It didn't seem scripted to me, at all. Now that some of you have pointed it out, i'll go back and see if i can spot any subtle hints, but i really think it was all real and legit.

Clarkson and may were so unscathed by the explosions because they've been in so many. It's like poison, you build up a tolerance.

That's also why the "drone footage" was clearly from a helicopter. They're just that good.

I've noticed that the really terrible scripting always heavily involves Hammond and his lovely pantomime level acting skills. May and Clarkson can ad-lib around a script but i think the knock on the noggin did for Hammonds improvisational brain functions

I laughed really hard at Pikeys Peak though.

Do you really want to know my process?

Lassiter:
Absolutely.

Shawn:
Well it starts with a holla! and ends with a Creamsicle.
I about loving died when Hammond's car wouldn't start and Clarkson hauled rear end in his police car to drive in front of him.

The part with the police vehicles was annoyingly scripted but Clarkson driving the drone off the road and into the grass was pretty funny. So was May's handbrake turn when they first showed up with the hatches.

Pip-Pip old chap! Last one in is a rotten egg what what.

That episode was all the funnier for me because I owned a nova once. It was red with brown remold tyres and an sri interior. Someone stole the rear bumper and then I crashed it into the back of a fiat.

Didn't know about the hazard hack though.

It was a fairly plain episode. Would've been better if they gave the hot hatches two segments instead of three, and had some crazy supercar with POWWWWWWEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRR for the last segment.

Casually closing the passenger side door on Hammond's car using his own car's rear bumper was a nice touch.
