You sayin' I like dubs?!?
I like part 1 in the overall context of jojo BECAUSE it's fist of the north star with vampires. Things starting out at more standard level makes Joseph shooting people with coke bottles and everything else insane gives off more of a :sbahj: feeling then if things were always like that.

Jojo is a series that gets better with each part, if only in their own specific ways. Even part 5, what's considered one of the weaker parts, has pieces in it that I think are better than part 4. Mostly the fights not involving Gold Experience.

You can even do it with Part 1. "A kid in Victorian England learns how to turn his body into the same wavelength as sun and uses this power to punch a vampirized Jack the Ripper in the head through a subway wall while not spilling a glass of wine."

The only REAL reason to be down on part 5 is because the translation is the most anti fun thing in the universe :colbert:. Part 5 is all about static characters doing cool things and getting into cool fights in cool backgrounds and it currently has a babelfish level translation and poor scans as the only english option for roughly 80% of it.

It ain't perfect, but the bile it gets is ether strictly this or from stupid parts becoming x1000 dumberer because of it.

The thing that gets me about part 5 is that almost all of the fights are really good. I just can't remember the names of any of the stand users not in the main party because they don't have much else going for them outside of being stand users and assassins. It's happened in all the other parts to some extent but Part 5 suffers the worse.

I wish Tonio got more screen time because Him and Pearl Jam is one of my favorite moments in Part 4.

There's a story in Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan that revolves around Tonio, but it doesn't have his stand much.

The Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan one-offs (and Rohan at the Louvre) are pretty amazing and well worth reading. (Light novel side story spoilers for those who care) As far as the other side material is concerned, One of the Part 5 light novels also features his brother (though I think it's just implied rather than any explicit relation), who has a stand that is basically 'what if Pearl Jam was used in an offensive manner'. So messing with peoples body chemistry to produce all kinds of dangerous effects.

As someone who has only seen the anime, should I just wait for Stardust Crusaders to get animated or just dive into the manga? If I do read the manga can I just start there or do I need to go back and actually read Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency because of anime compression and such.

I'd personally start the manga, and you can start from Stardust if you've watched the anime. Some stuff was compressed, but all the important/good stuff is retained.

No, you don't need to read the manga version of Part 1 and 2. Hell, you probably don't even need to watch the anime version. Part 3 isn't really a complicated plot and introduces many new characters and brings back only 2, so you can just drive right into it when it comes out.

Speaking of which, just read Part 3 of the manga. I recommend it highly.

I ended up skipping part 3 because part 4 was a dates favorite part, and I had kinda already told her I was halfway through it a week before I started. Now it feels so close to the anime starting that I'm avoiding it so I won't be burnt out on it by the time the anime starts.

As said many times before, you're terrible. :frogout:

Parts 1 and 2 of the manga should not be skipped because they're there to establish the setting and especially part 2 should not be skipped because it's much better than part 3.

And to be on topic just watch the anime for part 3 cause the scans suck and the tl is dodgy.

I still stand by my opinions, because there is very little connectivity. Part 3 is still enjoyable without reading about vampires and pillarmen. And Part 3 is still a blast to read. The anime shouldn't discourage anybody.

Part 2, taken alone, is probably the best and most complete part in the series except maybe 7. It's nonstandard to the other ones and has probably the best Jojo.

Who cares about connectivity when the part itself is great. Appreciate them on their own too, not just as part of the series.
