Refn-fest 2014: I watched Bronson last night and it was pretty good. Tom Hardy does a great job and Refn doesn't let it get super weird like Only God Forgives.

I didn't watch it when it premiered because I didn't think a show called "Don't Trust the Bitch" would be any good but now I regret it. It's actually pretty great. But I can't get too into Krysten Ritter's performance because I know her mostly from Breaking Bad.  Jane.

The 1973 Jesus Christ Superstar got added a bit back and it's weird as hell. It's hardly the best musical movie ever, but I feel like it's a pretty pure distillation of some of the weird stuff going on with early-70s Broadway. The underlying musical is pretty solid for the most part (it's Andrew Lloyd Weber if that makes up your mind either way for you) and it's worth a watch if you're inclined to musicals. A Company Man is a pretty good Korean action film in the vein of The Man from Nowhere. The standard "quiet but deadly hitman with a heart of gold" character, but the action was decent and I liked the fact that he basically works for a corporation made of hitmen, including a company retreat when he gets promoted. All the ennui of cubical life but with bullets.

The episode in Pierce's mansion wasn't too bad, but yeah, season 4 was terrible. Especially that puppet episode. That was horrifically bad.

I watched Valhalla Rising on this threads recommendation, and maybe I just didn't get it but I really didn't enjoy it. I really enjoyed Drive however, so I'm going to watch Only God Forgives and see how that is. I watched Pandorum on UK Netflix the other day, a film I hadn't heard of before. I was surprised at how much I liked it. I think it was the similarity to Sunshine, which is one of my favourite films, that did it for me.

Bubba Ho-Tep was added to Netflix not too long ago, and it's pretty good. It's a about an aging Elvis and a now African-American John F. Kennedy fighting a mummy that feasts on souls in the retirement home they both live. For me, at least, this movie hits a rare sweet spot between funny and poignant, and with Don Coscarelli at the helm, you know the "low budget monster weirdness"-credentials are in place. Oh, and Bruce Campbell is in it, if that's your thing.

I liked it but I enjoy slow paced, introspective sci fi movies. It was made on a shoestring budget but looks fairly decent. It sort of goes off the rails but if you just can go with it, it can be satisfying. Not everyone's cup of tea, definitely.

Totally agree, not much development at all. The strongest thing about that movie was the like Drive, it just looked really really cool. Lots of beautiful stills can be extracted from that movie.

I liked the Hunt because of how enraged and sad I felt about the injustice of the whole ordeal. The movie definitely manipulates the audience with some of the events that happen the dog =(. I enjoy a movie that gets me to feel that strongly about anything. That being said I recommend In Brudges, a wonderful movie about a hit gone wrong.

I'm with you here. 1 & 4 of Dexter are the stars, and they're the seasons that are closest to the hype the show used to have. 2 & 3? Not as much; but they're not complete shite. Dexter is still growing as a character in them - Deb too. Just... stop after 4.
