I know that this isn't legally a motorcycle, but I think it would be appreciated here: http://houston.craigslist.org/bik/4304239946.html quote:I am selling my custom motorized bike. This bike was built to ride. It is super sturdy and reliable unlike most of the thrown together junk online. It will do well over 35mph but it is geared for a cruising speed of about 27mph. I have ridden it just enough to break it in and work out all the bugs, about 500miles. Any bets on how long a bicycle with a heavy engine strapped to it, fat rider, and only rear rim brakes takes to stop from 35mph?

I like the "speed" light. What's that light tell you, anyway? "Hell yeah bro you're speedin'! Woo!!"

Seeing as it's on the tach I'm betting it's a form of shift light

I think it's mostly seen on JDM bikes, it lights up when you're going Too Fast (55mph I'm led to believe).

unnngh, twin round headlights look so good. High Protein posted:I think it's mostly seen on JDM bikes, it lights up when you're going Too Fast (55mph I'm led to believe). My bike has an orange mark on the speedometer at 75mph and no one seems to know exactly why it's there. There was never a national speed limit at 75, it doesn't line up with anything special on the tachometer in any gear, and it certainly wasn't an average highway cruising speed in 1971. As far as I can tell it's just a "you are going 75 mph" mark.

http://dayton.craigslist.org/mcy/4306377388.html This kind of bike ticks a lot of my boxes. 70's bike? Check. Smaller displacement? Check. Orange? Check. I don't know much about Yamaha stuff from this era, but a quick Googling shows that people really liked this line at the time.

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/mcy/4324102112.html F me, never see a Repsol for that kind of price.
|
# ? Feb 8, 2014 09:21 |

That's cause it's not a repsol. The chinese fairing kits never get the stickers right. The other tell is the front fender isn't straight. And if you looked at it in person, youd see crazy amounts of panel gap. Z3n fucked around with this message at 17:36 on Feb 8, 2014 |

If there's one thing I've learned from combing craigslist for the last few months it's that people GREATLY overestimate how rare Repsol CBR's are and that they'll go to great lengths to convert their whole bike to that scheme. Also, they only made them in odd years IIRC so if you see a 2008 repsol it's definitely a chinese fairing kit.

# ? Feb 8, 2014 18:21 |

Ugh, I guess you're right, usually the chinese fairings will say "fireblade" in a different spot on the side fairing panels, they weren't called fireblades in the US

That's a loving steal. Those are seriously uncommon and a really fantastic bike for their intended purpose. The 640 motor has a known issue with the clutch bearings, but if this has been sorted (and frankly if a 2000 bike is still going, it must have been), you're all good. Caveat: this is the Dirt-bike-made-comfortable end of the ADV spectrum, not the usual street-bike-on-stilts; it will vibrate and hate highways but fire-roads up to full on off-road it will be fantastic. I'd be ripping the guys arm off at that price.

http://frederick.craigslist.org/mcy/4276631292.html This ad has been up for a while, which kind of surprised me because it's a low price for this area. Is there a red flag I'm missing?
|
# ? Feb 14, 2014 18:28 |
Not unless you missed the gouges on the swingarm, big dent in the tank and the cases misses some big chunks of metal. That's a higher price than I'd pay for a dented up SV but YMMV based on the prices local to you.

|
# ? Feb 14, 2014 18:39 |

The dings and dents wouldn't really bother me as long as everything is mechanically sound. It doesn't look like the greatest bike to me either, I just normally see listings for SVs a lot higher than this.
|
# ? Feb 14, 2014 18:46 |
SV's are usually someone's first bike. Same thing with Ninja 300's and stuff - they're usually way overpriced because the people putting them up have no real idea of what used market prices are reasonable in my experience. I see kids all the time posting up starter bikes with 10 thousand miles, a 2 Brothers pipe and scratches everywhere at MSRP level prices.

hot sauce posted:http://frederick.craigslist.org/mcy/4276631292.html "short stalk blinkers. I'd pay maybe $2000 for it if nothing better came up.

Mr. Eric Praline posted:"short stalk blinkers. Undertail rear lights were installed by the previous owner" This is a really good point. I do not want to deal with someone's electrical mess again. I agree it would be a bad choice for a 2nd bike too. It just caught my eye during my daily Craigslist search for things I shouldn't spend money on. Realistically I'm just going to ride the ninja until the wheels fall off.
