I was livid about the invasion of Iraq before it was popular to think that way. I want single payer health care. I donated time and money to the Obama campaign. The whole nine. I've earned my stripes and have put my money where my mouth is. Simply pointing out that MSNBC is turning to poo poo and running this god damned bridge scandal into the loving ground shouldn't get me called out. I started this loving thread and I know partisan, sensational and poo poo news when I see it. At least eventually I do. And from what I've watched lately, and I've been watching it more than usual, MSNBC is becoming partisan poo poo. Sorry I'm not digging MSNCBC much. There's partisan journalism that's accurate and responsible, and there's partisan journalism that's cold, dishonest propaganda. Partisanship in and of itself isn't the problem. As long as we keep on fighting the loving Civil War in this country (which will probably be for a long time to come), there will always be partisanship. What matters is the intent behind it. Also, somehow people have started to confuse truth-seeking with "partisanship" (kudos, right wing media machine).

Nobody's seeking truth on MSNBC, except for Maddow who has apparently retreated into Beck-esque sequestration. She doesn't care about how everybody is a flack on her network but her, which makes her a flack. She's very useful to them when the network attempts to frame itself as progressive. But as Phil Griffin told Cenk Uygur in an attempt to pressure him, MSNBC is not made up of rebels, of cool guys wearing leather jackets. They are the establishment.

I'm with ya BiggerBoat. I realize that Bridgegate is a big and developing story, and I'm interested in it, but listening to Maddow dedicate 75% of her show to it every day for the last few weeks is wearing me out. I also get that it's a pretty slow news cycle so whaddya gonna do?

Maddow's show is about in-depth reporting on political stories. Christie's administration is under investigation from the state legislature and a US Attorney on multiple issues (Bridge-gate, Sandy funds, god knows what else), more information is coming out every day and/or another aide is pleading the 5th or threatening to flip, and I'd guess that as it stands there's a 20-25% chance he'll end up resigning or removed from office. For a national political figure, that's kind of a huge story. Meantime Congress is still doing nothing at all, which means Obama doesn't have much to do besides give stump speeches around the country. Most state legislatures (besides NJ,  ) aren't doing much of note because they've mostly already jammed through their controversial anti-choice or voter-suppression bills in the last three years and most of that conflict is in the courts now. If you can tell me an issue that you think is worth half an hour of her airtime above Christie's troubles, I'd love to hear it. There's only so many times you can do a segment on "Rand Paul said something today", and she and Chris Hayes both devote a lot of time to economic issues.

It is/was a huge story. Currently though, it's relegated itself to people are looking at papers and Christie does know the mayor because he met him four years ago once. Constantly belaboring the same possible endstate, with extreme focus and detail paid to what amounts to relatively little new information apart from conjecture is what people get sick of. As for other stories, they do exist. One of the various Republican campaign corruption cases could use additional air time. The fracturing and infighting within the Republican party is an ongoing issue with fresh news. Or the GOP turning their back on immigration reform after bringing it up again, and the second and third order effects given that it's a midterm year. Or the fallout/lack thereof from Fox's spin doctoring of the CBO report. The Christie scandal is starting to reach hard on status for our side. Once there is some worthwhile evidence to report, by all means keep the cameras on. When the "new" evidence bring trumpeted is that someone wrote in a journal that an aide was mean to them in July, or some guy may know something and share it in the future, it becomes over the top. Comparing Maddow to Beck is an obvious exaggeration, but the burnout from the Christie scandal isn't an isolated feeling.

Maddow has been covering the WV chemical spill and has done segments on both the regulatory shitshow that is coal and natural gas in the very recent past, but like other posters have said, she was on top of the Christie story before most other people were and it's been the kind of crazy political story that she likes to nerd out about. I think that's a huge part of the reason why I enjoy Maddow as much as I do, she's a huge politics nerd and revels in the same stuff we do.

As much as those of us who work in the media would like to write something like that, the sad fact is that the business is small and getting smaller every year - and it would put a big crimp in my ability to get a job in the future since this industry is so incestuous (especially radio). Not to mention that I get a decent paycheck from one of these outfits (the outfit treats employees very well compared to other places - it's very strange). I mean, if you have no other career aspirations, go for it! Hell, I'd gladly help. But in this climate, I'd have to win the lotto first.

He also said it was insulting to all the people who suffered because of all "the wars funded by the Soviet Union." Also NBC said nice things about Russian history so that make them communist propagandists.

What is his name. Ed? Has actually been spending most of his time on the Keystone XL pipeline and actually doing some good reporting on it, I don't normally like him but he is actually digging into the issue. For example he had some guy on saying that due to NAFTA, they can build a pipeline right up to the border on both sides, then truck it the hundred feet across without the federal government getting involved.

I would stand up and  if one day the opening ceremony was narrated Alan Moore reading his comic about the history of the CIA. I think this country is awesome and strong enough to live through admitting we haven't been 100% 24/7/365 and also strong enough to survive admitting that pretending you are is a major sign of weakness.
