David Fincher is adapting the UK series Utopia for HBO. I'm okay with this, the original Utopia is amazing (only one season so far, second starts soon) and Fincher is awesome to hopefully the result will be too.

We lost the specific way that the FCC was enforcing net neutrality because the method they were using was legitimately outside of the scope of their powers; the FCC is already working to reapply it via a method that is within the scope of their powers.

No but seriously you guys, loving Comcast is about to try and buy TWC... That's loving insane. My favorite part:quote:Regulators used to enforce a rule that prohibited a single cable company from controlling more than 30% of the market. But Comcast led a challenge to that rule in the mid-2000s, and in 2009 a federal appeals court threw out the 30% cap.

Didn't the FCC just have to reclassify ISPs as common carriers, then they can enforce whatever they want? Or Is the RIAA/MPAA still heavily lobbying now that itunes and their streaming models exist? But I guess now, ISPs are the probably against that reclassification. On the TW/Comcast thing, do them not being direct competitors matter? It seems they already divided America into their own regions, so one bigger monopoly vs 2 smaller ones that colluded or whatever before, doesn't seem like a big deal.

They don't even need to do that, which would have to go through Congress to be approved anyway. Right now they're planning to take advantage of Section 706 of the Telecommunications Act as an alternative route, which under their interpretation (and one which has been backed by the courts) gives the FCC broad discretion to investigate and prevent literally any case that can be considered by the FCC to be hindering to broadband deployment, including any anti-competitive acts such as ISPs acting against net neutrality. It's actually more power, taking advantage of this interpretation, they just hadn't gone that route before Verizon v. FCC because there was no need to. quote:On the TW/Comcast thing, do them not being direct competitors matter? It seems they already divided America into their own regions, so one bigger monopoly vs 2 smaller ones that colluded or whatever before, doesn't seem like a big deal. It looks like some people are thinking that that will make it more likely to go through, but this is actually something where the FCC also might step in, considering that mergers of cable companies fall under their "public interest" umbrella; it won't be merely approval by the Justice Department that will be needed to allow this merger, but approval by the FCC as well. The Brady Bunch Movie is up on Netflix now. It's awesome, and has Shelly Long and Christine Taylor. It totally gets the vibe of the Bradys, and is p awesome in how it takes that and plays it against the most 90s things ever. Basically, the only way to get a good movie based off of a TV show is to make fun of it. See also: Josie and the Pussycats, 21 Jump Street.

Rick and Morty are both voiced by Justin Roiland, the show's co-creator along with Harmon. I don't know anything about that youtube channel, but I'd guess that isn't him.

muscles like this? posted:Yeah, I'm not sure why they think it'll happen. There's already regional monopolies in many parts of the country (some mandated legally) either by Comcast or TWC, and a undeclared agreement to not compete between them, making this day somewhat inevitable. Creating an actually acknowledged monopoly might trigger more government reaction, aka what happened with Mama Bell and Standard Oil (though that took decades and people actually dying, not having their episode of Cheers slower than normal). Ideal situation would be the government to do the same thing they did stopping the Sprint/Verizon merger, and actually target Comcast next, because what they're about ('vertical integration') has already led to a crazy amount of abuse, but that, to say the least, does not seem very likely.
