There's supposed to be a wipe prior to whatever "quick start" access they give - swtor had one for a week, which was enough for people to hit cap

Anyone else getting the 'No Realms Available' message at the login screen? I was in before but I exited when the character creator locked up. I got a few hours in and am really having a good time. I like the atmosphere and the systems they have in place. I have reported 3 bugs so far, I am hoping I get a real beta invite after this stress test so I can continue to play.

More often than not I found myself having to wait for enemies to respawn because I A. couldn't find more mobs anywhere or B. there were far too many people doing the quest and respawn times don't adjust to compensate.

I assume the current problems are still ongoing? You may get a home plot for free early on but you can't really decorate them without dumping a lot of money into it. For example, a single patch of grass costs 10 silver! Small stuff like changing the walls take a lot of gold too depending on how cool it looks. Like some cute bunny carrot wallpaper costs a bazillion gold (exaggeration but close enough.) So I finally made it into a stress test and made my first character. Scientist, of course. So far so good. Game looks nice and atmospheric. Now of course right after bumbling around for a bit I have to stop since I've suddenly have to go back to university on Saturday to do some work. Hopefully nothing happens on Sunday, or this will be the third stress test in a row I can't play.

The default settings work well, I don't know what their deal will be with the higher end settings (which seems to be what the people who end up complaining are running).

If my gtx770 isn't powerful enough for your WoW-lookin' MMO to run at a steady 60 with anything turned up over the default, maybe you should have spent more time in alpha making them game actually run well. one of the reasons WoW was so popular is it ran/runs on god drat everything while still looking pretty okay.

Blizzard spent a ton of time making sure WoW was extremely easy to render for very low end computers, which was a lesson learned by many other very successful game manufacturers (see: World of Tanks). Carbine may or may have not have learned this, I don't know since I don't have a low end system and I've only played the stress test. One could argue, as far as WoW goes, that a side effect of their client-side focus was that their server architecture and back end were woefully deficient, and the game was borderline unplayable by today's standards for over a year after launch on most of their servers. People like to forget that WoW got to be the gorilla in the room over the course of 3-4 years of refinement in which it had effectively zero competition. Carbine has decided to make their game look and play like ~2008 WoW, which means it really shouldn't be very demanding. It may not be, both the company and the beta testers are saying this game is at least a quarter away from releasing. There may be massive optimization sweeps which have no yet been done, and the game could be buttery smooth at release. The reality is that it probably won't be though, and that's unfortunately par for the MMO course at this point.

Carbine has not focused on optimization yet since the game is still several months from release. Optimization will be one of the last things they do, after they stop making major changes to the game. If you went through and manually maxxed out every setting, doublecheck the "Render target scale" setting. It is supersampling and a framerate killer. Setting it to 2 at a 1920x1080 resolution makes the game render at 3840x2160 then downscales it to 1920x1080. You want it set to 1. grrarg fucked around with this message at 12:15 on Feb 15, 2014 |

Aside from that annoyance that requires a client restart, or just not being a engineer tank, the frame rate is smooth although I don't have fraps overlay running to verify the exact FPS. Using a i7, GTX660, 6 gigs of RAM and the client has low load times for a non-SSD.

This isn't my first time around the PC block, the fact that I get 20-30fps with 2x supersampling and also 20-30fps when upscaling from 1/2 res means that there might be more issues than "hey did you check your render target setting". My GPU utilization was around 17%, and it was only running on 2 of the 4 cores, and only topping out at 50% on one, and 10-20% on two others. As it stands, this game is hilariously badly optimized in the state it's in right now, and I highly doubt it's going to get fixed at any time before launch.
