I have no idea what I just watched, but it was kind of interesting. Looked like people skiing down a slope and doing sick tricks after ramping.

Darth123123 posted:What other countries even do this like the USA? Well the Jamaican bobsled team had to use kickstarter to fund their trip. The USOC gets funding from TV rights and sponsorships which it then doles out to each US Sporting federation. Individual athletes will naturally get individual sponsorships with success at the games. edit: well a little Googling says the US is one of three countries that do not publically fund their olympic teams. nickutz fucked around with this message at 21:10 on Feb 14, 2014 |

Hanyu won the gold in men's figure skating, despite falling on his first and third jump (because of cumulative scoring I guess?) The guy is awesome, if you like figure skating he's worth watching on Youtube.

An Olympic gold to a performance with two falls, a step-out, etc (Chan's performance also had 2 falls, step-outs, etc). R.I.P. Plushenko's spine

Can't wash clothes, they might become contagious. Drink only beer/vodka, bottled water is reserved for the sponge baths.

Looks like Ivan has been playing with the thermostat again. “Canada was silver at the top, but the further we went down, the slower we got, and that’s a clear sign that the track slowed down dramatically,” Staudinger said to the Toronto Star after just missing the podium." "The temperature on luge tracks is controlled, so in order to slow down the track, one can simply turn up the heat. And Staudinger believes that Russia did just that to ensure that their team medaled. The Russian relay team won silver, while top contenders like Canada and Austria missed the podium altogether." "In response, Gilbert Felli, the executive director of the games for the IOC, said in a press conference on Friday that Staudinger should stop being a sore loser." In other news, has anyone seen the Putin pins for the Olympics?

Listening to the curling matches during work is pretty calming, and then I can take a break to watch the last four stone throws per end. Hearing the curlers roar their barbarian shouts after a high-scoring end is a treat. --- The off-air CBC banter continues to be strangely charming. During the Canada vs Denmark match (Starts at 29:40): On air: While explaining that the IOC mandates that name on the athletes' shirts must match the last name on their passport... : "His last name is actually Hansen but he goes by Stjerne all the time. Stjerne is actually his middle name. Fun Fact." : "I think you need to need to explain... I am a tad confused, just because his dad is a well-known curler, Thomas Stjerne." : "I got what I got, what can I tell you?" : "Joan, sometimes you just have to accept the Fun Facts and move on. They are not to be questioned." Off air: : "That was a Fun Fact!" : "This is painful for me to do, but I gotta to side with Joan, because I'm not sure that Fun Fact made any sense." : "Here's my theory. Hansen is his mother's name, and maybe he took his mother's name and then they got married after he was born." : "It's not Fun Theories. It's Fun Facts. We speak of this no more."
