I mean, seeing a Mark V rolling around the spacebattlefield is kinda fun, but I hope they draw more on the Antenocitis direction. Also, if anyone was interested in some more flavourful scatter and buildings designed for Deadzone and they have their fill of the resin stuff from the KS, I can't recommend this KS enough. Scatter is at the top, the 3XX series at the bottom are designed for the Deadzone cube system.

The Mantic CM James Hewitt has left Mantic to go and write rules for GW. Mantic are currently hiring a CM; if I lived in Nottingham I'd be taking my years of experience, CV and a fully painted Marauder Deadzone team in for an interview. I hope they get someone good, it's an important role.

Company wasn't specified, but this is purportedly a picture of his desk on his last day I'm thinking that if they get in a specialist CM, rather than getting another guy in the company to do the CM work, we might see a steady improvement in the communication coming into and out of Mantic, which is a good thing.

£30 gets you a lot of Forge Fathers during a sale. Is there any way to order the plastic boxes empty but with the sleeves for the various deadzone factions? I like keeping my dreadball teams in their boxes and would like to store my deadzones the same way. The VHS/DVD height is just super convenient

Hopefully the plastic sprues introduce some posing options that don't involve hot water and careful pulling and twisting. The web shop I buy from (nearest thing I have to a FLGS) isn't interested in stocking Mantic, despite some strong public complaints about GW, judging by responses to recent questions about stocking Deadzone, which I believe makes it the only miniatures company in operation it isn't stocking. Fortunately the store I got Dreadball from on the cheap stocks the complete range (albeit without free shipping), so I'll be shopping there in future.

I'm getting back into DnD with my friends and am very, very tempted to get a couple cheap boxes of Kings of War minis - the undead army starter, some orcs, goblins, maybe some regular spearmen/archers/whatever from that angel line. We've got some regular DnD minis but I know for a fact that I'd do a better paintjob - and seriously, gently caress buying minis in random boosters, that'd give me a solid bunch of the 'classic' monster types!

I don't DnD, but I've seen it said the Basilean Men at Arms make a great cheap 'town guard' option for RPGs, I imagine the same goes for the others you were looking at. Unlucky for you, you just missed big Kings of War sales for Mantic New Year (ended Feb 2) and miniature market (stock on the ones you want is gone), but even without the sales they're still pretty affordable.

Aw poop. Ah well, can't be helped - and yes, that's the main draw! A single pack of DnD minis costs about 15€ and comes with 10 (I think) random miniatures. With this I'll get exactly what I want for cheaper, as long as I don't mind painting them myself.

Reaper is also a good company to look at for DnD miniatures. They've got a wide selection of most generic monsters and classes, plus their new bones line has some really cheap stuff.

I want something solid to keep my Deadzone cards in, but I can't seem to find anything nice. Years ago I used to have a couple of deep, solid cases made out of rigid clear plastic with a separate lid that had a lip the full depth of the box, which is a terrible description that will make no sense to anyone unless they have seen what I'm talking about. Unfortunately I think I must have sold them when I cleared out all my Magic cards. I think they were by UltraPro, but all I can find by them now is these things made out of some kind of folded/welded flexible plastic which look hideous. Most other products seem to be either massively over-engineered aluminium cases, or crappy clippy-hinged boxes that are going to snap in about 5 minutes. Anyone got the magic search terms for finding a proper hard plastic card case in the UK, assuming they are still made? I'm a bit disappointed by the lovely packaging job on DZ though: I got it in a shop a couple of weeks back, so I'm assuming it's the pre-release/kickstarter oversized box with a regular starter's worth of stuff in it. Having read how the pre-release/ks stuff got packed in this thread, I kind of understand why this is, but don't exactly feel sympathetic to Mantic for half-assing it so badly. Basically, any game in the big box that isn't stuffed with kickstarter extras is going to be a little pile of fragile stuff rattling around in a cavernous vessel. Mine had all come to rest jammed in one end so some of the scenery bits were ripped off the sprues, I've had to pin one of my plague dudes back onto his base, the edges of the rulebook are a bit mangled, and there's a crease in the centre of the mat that may prove to be permanent, as all the other poo poo had it wedged solidly into the corner. Thankfully the cards and counters are undamaged as those could have been pretty problematic. I haven't opened the enforcers yet, hopefully they are OK. Most of that is pretty cosmetic apart from the snapped ankle (and I kind of suspect I'd have ended up pinning that sooner or later anyway) but now I actually list all the other problems I realise that if I'd spotted all this poo poo as soon as I opened the box, it would have gone back to the shop, and I would have just waited for the regular release. As it is, too much cleanup and assembly time has already gone into it to do that now. That's kind of a general problem I tend to have with hobby stuff - I never remember to check that everything is OK before pitching into the big boxes. I really hope the regular release will have bits of card or something to keep everything in place, or at least they'll put the fragile minis in a box. Despite that, I'm generally pleased with it. The terrain is great. I'm not 100% keen on the plastic resin material for the minis, but it is a thousand times better than finecast. A printed assembly guide for the figures would have been nice - this applies to the faction starters as well. Haven't had a go yet but the rules look really easy to pick up. The only thing that stood out as confusing on a read-through is that the overwatch section doesn't say what actions can be performed as overwatch. It would have been good to mention that this is listed on the unit cards. I've heard a couple of people comment that they thought that using whichever distance was longest out of counting along the board and counting vertically for range seemed a bit weird: I was fine with this because I get why it works, but someone who's not so good at visualising a 3D space would probably like a diagram so they know they can trust that rule! I've seen a couple of posts about people having trouble supergluing these figures: Weirdly I've found that my medium thickness Zap-a-Gap absolutely will not stick these figures at all, but standard Loctite superglue bonds more or less instantly.
