This article has beautiful macro pictures of snowflakes taken by a (supposedly) easy to set up DIY camera. Instructions on how to make your own and even more snowflake pictures can be found here on his blog. Here are just a few pictures.

Buggiezor posted:I think my favorite part of this is the fact that nature makes beautiful symmetric crystals like this To be boring - artificial snow looks like that because it is formed so quickly. The gorgeous, symmetrical shapes of most natural snow form because they have more time to crystallize and grow. The beautiful patterns formed are ones that minimize a number of physical factors, such as energy. There's a lot of things in chemistry that you know you've done right if they end up looking amazing, and you've screwed up if they end up looking rubbish!

Snowflakes and bismuth crystals are pretty great examples of how nature just routinely shows humans up.

I am no good as a chihuahua source but I just found another excellent stern cat: I think it's sternly admonishing the dandelions not to allow themselves to go to seed and encourage foolish humans to wish their lives away instead of pulling their socks up and making some changes. Elias_Maluco posted:Apparently, some monkeys are evolving to use capybaras as mounts. I can't decide whether I'd rather view that as the capybara being the monkey's noble steed, or believe that the capybara is blind and the monkey helps it to navigate in the changing jungle landscape. 'Okay, up ahead, looks like someone dug a new hole, about as big as my head. You wanna try to step over it or go around it?' 'Hmm... go around.' 'Okay, bear left till I say stop.' Can't guarantee these are all chihuahuas because I'm not great with dog breeds so if not; sorry they're the closest I've got. Also this story about a 2-legged chihuahua and a chicken making friends was in one of our papers the other day and has some pretty good pics.

Her reaction of 'OH MY GOSH YOU GOT ME YOU GOT ME SO GOOD I'M SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU' is delightful. The internet is kind today, because I just found an incredibly rare and precocious specimen, the stern kitten. 'You there. Knock it off. I'm a kitten and I have more self-control than that.'
