You can grab any number of third party web browser apps that can maintain a separate web history to keep people from viewing yours.

I don't want to restrict use to just one app. I just want to be able to lock out specific apps and actions.

So far, I've got in app purchases restricted, app store payment method set to "none", and a password is needed to download any app that isn't free.

Basically, my situation is for a few hours of some days the iPad will be available to be used by other people and outside of that rest of time it's mine. These will be set times that I will know beforehand. I guess I can just clear all my cookies beforehand and not install Facebook if there isn't another way.

Being able to just set up two user accounts like I can on my Nexus 7 would be nice.

The point was to get a 4G tablet with a bigger nicer screen. My Nexus 7 is wifi only with a smaller screen. When I originally posted I was a bit pissed that I was told this could do something it couldn't and a bit surprised that wasn't actually possible because it seems like an obvious thing to have. I'm not very familiar with Apple so thought there may be away to achieve the same goal without a separate account.

Another thing that drove me crazy was that I couldn't get any photo to save as wallpaper without it getting stretched out. The only way I was able to fix this was by buying Wallax for $0.99 but it took me trying different things for a long time before I tried that app. Also, I found that in the app store I have to sometimes set the search to iPhone only instead of iPad or certain apps don't show up under the iPad search such as Google Play Music and Instagram.

I played with this thing all night and I think I got it to where it will work for me. I disabled the actions I don't want other poor people doing behind a passcode. I don't have anything like personal email, Facebook, etc. linked to the tablet. I set up Instagram and linked it to a Twitter and Tumblr account I created just last night if people want to send photos there. I also set up folders with different apps to play with like streaming music, trivia, etc.

I'm comfortable with the setup as I have it now, will use a browser for anything personal and clear the data before taking it out, and keep on the other stuff between my phone and Nexus 7.

Now that I got it somewhat setup I do like it and the screen is pretty nice. Hopefully, they add some type of multi user support in the future.

Can you guys recommend me some good apps whether they are free or not? I'm looking for simple fun games, stuff for making music, stuff for photos, social stuff like trivia games, etc. Basically quick fun party stuff.

Never bring a duck to a cock fight.
I'd say it's reasonable to assume that an iPad could be a multi-user device, pretty much everyone I know who has one shares it with their family or significant other. I don't think it's unfair to want users accounts though only for iPads, it would be pretty ridiculous on a phone or even iPod. It would be great if Apple includes it in iOS 8, though I'm not very hopeful about it.

You see, but you do not observe.

I think the iPad is long overdue for multi-user accounts, absolutely. Even for personal use, a "Work/Home" profile would be nice, since I could load my personal ipad with comics and anime porn, while staying professional for my crappy job. Or even when handing the device to kids, so they could play without me worrying that they'll open my SA account and make better posts than me.

Not the best solution but if you jailbreak your iPad there's an app out there that will allow you to put passwords as soon as you try and open up a specific application. This will help you if you want to give out your iPad but not have them click on specific apps that they don't need access to

Makes sense from a work standpoint. Its the one thing Blackberry got right: There's a work part of the phone and a home part of the phone. You can go work somewhere else without losing the home part of your phone. I may be wrong but I'm under the impression that enterprise setup on iPhone requires your work's IT dept to be able to wipe the entire phone if you leave.

Then again, Apple has never seemed all that serious about Enterprise solutions, they could take it if they wanted it.

If your work issues you a phone or pays for your service, they have every right to wipe it if you leave. If neither of the above are true, you shouldn't use your phone for work.

Apple makes their money building the best devices they can so their high price is justified. If they see it as a good feature to add, I'm sure they will.

They generally don't let lower capacity devices hold them back with new features, they just disable the feature on those. I don't think that's it. Maybe it's just hard to do with iOS and there's not that much demand for multi-user.

I've never used it so I'm probably talking out of my rear end, but doesn't home sharing already let you share apps with users on a local network? I imagine Apple would just allow apps to be shared locally on a device with multiple accounts. Data is still an issue, but to be honest I couldn't imagine having two users worth of media on a 64gb or 128gb iPad either.

There's a lot of design questions that need to be answered when enabling multi-user accounts, since it's something that affects the entire system. Do they include the concept of an "administrator" vs. a "user" or do all user accounts share an equal playing field on the system? If everyone's just a user, what happens to the other users when one user eats up all the space with their own data? Do apps installed on the device get shared between all users or is each user limited to the apps that they personally own? What about storage of things like videos/photos/music/etc. that get synced from iTunes, is that shared between users as well?

These are just off the top of my head, and there are a ton more, especially about small details behind the scenes. There could be a lot of decisions made in iOS under the assumption that there is only a single user. Adding multi-user support is a big job and one Apple would want to make sure they get right if they're going to add it. It adds a ton of complexity to the system.

That said I do think it has to arrive some day as iOS devices get more and more capable.

So this message "An update to the carrier settings for your ipad is available. Would you like to install it?" pops up in iTunes everytime I connect the thing to my computer and it's always successful when I update apparently. Any idea how to get it to stop bugging me?

Edit: This probably had more to do with my ISP than the device itself so I contacted their tech support. Ignore me.

The Air comes with a 12w charger. The original Mini comes with a 5w charger, same as the iPhone. 5w is barely adequate for the Mini, and much too small for the Air.

Aphrodite

That explains a lot. The Air's charger is still fine for the Mini, right? It'll just make it charge faster and not break anything?

I keep one at home and one in my bag for work, which in practice means I lend it to people at work and never use it myself so if the work one is just 5w that doesn't bother me.

I'm a poor person and I want a 32GB iPad mini retina. Am I stupid yes/no? I work a sales job so there's no actual reason for wanting one except being a bit of a gadget freak and only having owned Android devices for the past four years. I already have the Asus TF300T (ten inch Android tablet with lower specs than my phone) which I never use because it's basically a giant phone and the size means it's not particularly more portable than a laptop. I'd be much happier if I could actually play with one before buying it, the demo models in stores don't allow you to install apps and I'm really wondering how stuff like Google Drive feels on the device. Stuff like web browsing works amazing though.

I might be able to buy one at a 20% discount if someone I know doesn't use their personnel discount before it expires.

The iPad mini retina is pretty fantastic. Fast, great screen quality, etc. between that and the Air it really just comes down to style preference. But it would last a good long time assuming you don't bust it.

I just swapped my work iPad 2 for the regular iPad mini, and personally I'd rather trade off the larger screen for the portability any day. I'm sold on the form factor. Someday I'll get them to upgrade me to the retina.

On that note, my iPad 2 (launch version) was pretty unusable on iOS 7, my original mini works great so far.

I just got it and it's absolutely amazing so far. I put my old tablet online and someone's already willing to pay 130 euros for it, which considering I put it up for 150 expecting to get 100 isn't bad at all. All of the tablet apps are so much nicer on the iPad then on my previous tablet, and one of the main things I bought it for, editing spreadsheets, works like a charm in Google Drive. The magnetic cover is also a big step up from the clunky flip cover the Asus had, which had to be hinged in the ports on the side.

That's pretty cool :) One thing I'd note if you have no experience with iOS is to give it a few days or even weeks to get a feel for how the OS works, it all makes sense once you "get it" but starting out it might be weird coming from other systems.

Well the only thing that takes some getting used to so far is sometimes having to look for a back button that is now on the screen instead of beneath the display. Also, when I open Facetime I see my entire contact list. Is there a way to filter it so it only shows people who actually use it?

I woke up today and my iPad air has a cracked screen. :(

I dropped it about a month ago, and the corner got a bit squished, but the glass was totally fine. Now there is "spider-webbing" about a centimeter from the rim but the only damage that's over the screen itself is a large hairline crack along the top. I'm guessing heat changes or something just caused it to shatter.

What are the chances that this problem won't get worse? It's currently noticeable, but not $200+ in repair costs noticeable. But if I'm just delaying the inevitable where the whole screen shatters then I guess I might as well bite the bullet and get it fixed now.

Go to the Apple store, say the cracks appeared overnight. They might replace it for free, there could have been a defect in the glass. If they say you need to pay for a repair, you can decide then if you want to wait until it gets worse.
