Uh, what needs explaining? Trent's partially spent his career trying to be Uncle Al and/or Ogre dude. No big secret there. (Also Bowie, etc, etc.)

Sanctified? Is that two-note slap/funk bass commonality at the beginning of the bass line what you're getting at? Of course, we all remember Trent's Jerry phase (total ripoff): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_V2sBURgUBI ballgameover.mp3 fucked around with this message at 01:03 on Feb 22, 2014 |

Well...I think he probably did to an extent, but that's how it works. I was just being a smartass above - I hope that came through. But, you know, you get so into music that you see yourself making something as amazing as what influenced you. You obsessively watch their interviews, go to every show you can, listen to every second of their albums so you can get their tricks down just right. It tends to rub off. I don't think that's the same as being a rip-off, though. There are definitely people who are utter hacks and try only to emulate the aspects of artists that make them money. It's a subjective distinction, certainly, but I tend to think that Trent is genuine. A bit nicked here or there isn't such a problem. The guy doesn't exactly seem to be lacking for envelope-pushing original content.

So the 8th of Feb is going to be 20 years to the day that TDS was released... I heard through the grapevine that they are setting up a live stream from NIN.com for the Newcastle (Australia) show that is on the 8th... Looks like we're getting TDS in it's entirety. *NINgasm*

They've already played Downward Spiral in its entirety live before (a few years ago), so that wouldn't exactly be a big surprise but it would be cool to see.

And there are some super good recordings of the performances. Still, a pro-shot soundboard of it would be cool. Especially if it's an early-in-the-show tour so Trent's voice is kind of fresh.

They are playing that 300 trailer with Eraser on TV now. It's pretty good but it doesn't come close to the original JLYI 300 trailer.

I'm shooting the first Sydney show (hopefully).

A new thing to buy!! Coil/Nine Inch Nails: Recoiled Dat files of some tracks from Broken and TDS were sent to Coil members. Coil members remixed, Trent approved of them and then nothing happened with them I guess. I haven't delved into the history of it but I think these have been sitting around somewhere for at least a decade. These were available to download last month but were not finished. They have now been remastered and officially released. Tracks: Gave Up(Open My Eyes) Closer(Unrecalled) The Downward Spiral(A Gilded Sickness) Eraser(Reduction) Eraser(Baby Alarm Remix) Cold Spring Records has a couple vinyl versions and a CD for sale. I believe the vinyl will be going fast if it's not already gone by the time you read this. http://coldspring.co.uk/ The digital version is available on iTunes and Amazon. I paid five bucks on Amazon So worth it right? I haven't listened yet but I did listen to some previews and from what I can tell I've not heard any of these before. edit: Wow, that Closer remix really takes a turn for the better at 5:15 EdwardSwifferhands fucked around with this message at 15:24 on Feb 26, 2014 |

Motherfucker. Seeing Great Destroyer live in '08 during Lights in the Sky was one of the most insanely awesome things I have ever witnessed, so I would love to see how they're doing that with the new band / stage setup. It's probably not nearly as crazy as it was then, but still.

Although someone actually hosed up and started playing the wrong version of the song and Trent had to stop everything and reset because they had planned to play a remix. It was the first time he had spoken to the crowd though at that point so in a lot of ways it actually made things more fun.

May be in the minority but I'd love to see how the second Sydney show goes down because tonight's show felt pretty lackluster compared to QOTSA's straight afterwards. Any thoughts?

I was a bit shocked that Qotsa's stage setup was so much more grand than NIN. It definitely felt like, yup QOTSA are the headliners. That said I was up the front for NIN and the setlist was wonderful so I can't complain at all. Apart from the taste of dreadlocks in the mouth and people who just can't GET THEIR HANDS OFF IT.
