That's what I did (well, only one outer box) when I moved from Japan, but you couldn't actually get them to do that originally. I'm almost certainly going to get rid of at least one of my ginormous sets (for Nausicaa), maybe the FF Advent Children one too, but things will have to get really loving dire for me to ditch my Alien head.

So my GF and I just signed a lease on an apartment, so that means it's time to re-organize and optimize my retro setup! I have 17 consoles I have 25 if you count duplicates, not including all the handhelds I have. Jesus, what's happened to me that I want to have displayed. Does anyone have a suggestion as to an entertainment center that can hold that many consoles? I plan to mount my TV on the wall so to top surface can also be used to hold games. I'd like to keep it below the cost of 3x. Pics appreciated. As an aside my gf and I have been dating for 3 years and we're really happy to get a place together. She loves retrogames too so there is going to be a lot of piles of burning money around the place.

The world was hitting the true "lost generation" of consoles and bringing out revisions of hardware that easily beat the late seventies generation. All of these consoles except the Famicom would be dead within two years as the video game market dropped out. A lot of the Famicom's hardware wasn't actually better, either, they just put their effort behind things like the graphics chip instead of processor or adding memory and that paid off.

The Orange Mage posted:I always chafe at the consensus that the Saturn failed because of bad hardware design and/or lack of 3D power. It's more that there were no "must-haves" or games that will sell an entire console. There was no real Sonic the Hedgehog game released for it. Imagine the Nintendo 64's console life with no Super Mario 64 (or Zelda:OoT, for fairness) and comparatively it looks like even Sega didn't really give a poo poo about the Saturn. Kinda late posting but it's not even the lack of an amazing Sonic that made the Saturn do bad in the USA. The USA got a piss poor selection of games. I remember the Toys'r'us near me stocked everything but NEC in great quantity so you could see everything. I remembered always being jealous of not having the Sega CD but the Saturn's selection looked so loving boring and unappealing for its entire life. There were some good games in there of course but overall the library was tiny and the same boring poo poo you didn't want to play. All the good poo poo never got translated into English or was too anime for 90's USA. As much as I hated the treatment the Saturn got in the USA... I still wish I owned my boxes and boxes of JP Saturn games Peenmaster posted:So my GF and I just signed a lease on an apartment, so that means it's time to re-organize and optimize my retro setup! When you look at the game cover itself you can see how ridiculous it looks having a "real" face on a horribly digitized body. Don't get me wrong it's still a semi-cool game, but man pictures online don't do the awful cart art justice. Earlier today, when I was seeing when my mortgage would be paid off (so depressing) I thought to myself how much it kicks rear end living in the future. What I mean is most movies/tv/video games way back then thought the 2000s were going to be all flying car-esque and have cyborgs everywhere. I thought about BaseBall 2020, the 2020 Casino in Vegas Stakes, Mega Mans 20xx, Star Trek's WWIII in the 90s, and in random googling came across Raid 2020 which I had never heard of. It's yet another unlicensed game I never heard of (and now a must own) and watching some random youtube clips it looks like a poor man's NARC done pretty well. How can I not buy this for the cover art alone c'mon.

Yeah I get that the video signals are the same, i just thought it was odd that he'd call it an hdmi mod, but then go with a larger dvi port and make hdmi require an adapter. Also, am I wrong in thinking that if hdmi normally carries sound it going to be hard for most people to select hdmi for video and a separate composite in for audio?

So here's something weird: my toaster NES (supposedly has a new pin connector) doesn't like loading games if I push them down like how you're supposed to. However, it's booted everything first try if I just leave the game in the "up position." Playing games like this won't, like, damage the console somehow, right? Only noticed this when I turned the console on, played Simon's Quest, quit and went to remove the game and found it wasn't pushed down. Also, yeah, Fester's Quest is hard as balls, but I'm enjoying Metroid way more than when I played it on the 3DS. Original hardware makes a difference.
