I'm mostly trying to keep pornographic and creepy statuary out of this thread. You know the kind I'm talking about. Also, just general weird girl statues. Like, if it's a resin kit of Guts and his bigass iron sword, go for it. I'll begrudgingly allow discussion of those Armor Girl figures that Bandai puts out, though, since their accessories and whatnot are supposedly compatible with the Robot Damashii lines and such.

He's been a mechanical designer for Sunrise for quite a while, but if I understood correctly he also was a toy designer first. Back in the 80s, Takara hired him and wanted to sell a Bandai style robot for Transformers, which became Predaking (quite possibly the best 80s Transformer toy). This had 3 results: the toy sold very well, Bandai sued Takara, and Bandai hired him as their own designer.

I prefer acrylic paints for the same sensitive system reason. I've been using ultra watered down citadel paints for panel washes, cleaning it up with surgical spirit. For the reverse washes I've been doing on Sinanju I've been doing acrylics (including clear coat) and then black enamel on top and rubbing that slowly off with lighter fluid, trying not to also rub through the clear coat and gold underneath. I've heard good things about the Vallejo Air acrylic range for airbrushes so I'll probably use those when I get to spraying because the longass cure time on acrylics doesn't bother me so much.

On the subject of Kotobukia stuff, is there any cross-compatability between Frame Arms kits and HG Gundam kits? They're about the same size and I was idly curious if the attachment pegs were too. Also, the DM Exia has some new pictures. Oddly surprising, the hip-attached swords have big fat custom pegs to hold them. I would've thought they'd go with the standard-sized ones for cross-compatibility like everything else in the BF line . http://gundamguy.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/hgbf-1144-gundam-exia-dark-matter.html

Just for shits and giggles, I figured I'd look up some zoids, and man... they're not cheap. As a kid, I had a bunch of Technozoids around '94 or so. This was before the anime. I had an Iron Kong and Ultrasaurus, and they were pretty badass. Don't have them anymore, though. I figured I could maybe get some more now that I actually know how to build models and won't just be twisting parts off the runners, but yeah... unlike Gundams, it seems like finding older unbuilt kits for retail is not super easy.

I can't stand the DM Exia at all. If you're going to have something that's red and black you need to separate it better way better than done here (honestly red and black works better with one of them being dominant and the other highlighting specific parts rather than an even split like this). The absolute worst part is the shoulders' solid chunks of red, turning the middle parts of the shoulders black, and other changes like that, would improve the design significantly.

I've been slowly trying to get better at model building; I got a mechanical pencil to do panel lining, and I've been putting on a lot of the stickers/decals instead of like I always do, and I"m really liking the results. Unfortunately, I'm at the point where I need to start learning how to paint, and the rabbit hole that represents is a little too intimidating at the moment (though the alternative is building the Aegis in its default color scheme, which is frankly unacceptable). Also I marathoned Build Fighters today while building a MG Marasai and now I just want to do goofy customized Deathscythe builds (Deathschythe Heaven ).

The DM Exia is supposed to look poo poo. It's widely hinted at being the Chairman's gunpla. Said Chairman is a colossal manchild who would clearly think black, red and spiky is super cool and awesome. It's the Hot Topic Gundam.

I don't exactly have a burning hate for the Exia DM, but all I can think of it whenever I look at it is how easy/cool it would be to repurpose it into a Knight Blazer gundam. If I ever get into kitbashing, that'd probably be the first thing I'd do.

Does anybody have experience with the Qubeley Papillion? I'm enjoying Build Fighters and adore the insect motif, even if it seems a bit overly bulky and I'm not a fan of the colors. I was wondering how bad of an idea it'd be to get one for use as my first model. Or, potentially, a Beginning Gundam instead, because I find the face incredibly charming.

Qubeley Papillion is based off the old as poo poo HG Qubeley, so it's not very good articulation wise. It's also very sticker heavy, yet at the same time doesn't actually have enough stickers for all the stripes. Dalong has a review of it up if you want to check it out more. As for if you should get it, if you like it then sure why not. It'll be a pretty fast build since there aren't many parts, but all of the rounded surfaces will probably piss you off. Definitely don't get the Beginning though. Its construction is pretty drat weird, you need to have some skill at painting to get the wolverine claws to look right, and it's pretty pricey. I have no idea why it's called the Beginning, it's a horrid first kit. EDIT: Qubeley's probably going to get a MG, so you might want to wait on that for a bit. You could always make your first kit the MG Build Strike, it's a solid kit with no odd gimmicks to make construction difficult. BlitzBlast fucked around with this message at 20:13 on Mar 3, 2014 |

I thought those stripes were printed, not stickers (I've always had horrid experiences with stickers), and I'm sharing an apartment that's also infested with cats so anything beyond panel washes and topcoats is a no go for painting, at the moment. Are any of the non-papillion Build Fighter models any good? And what's so weird about the Beginning Gundam's Construction, since I think it's probably one of my favorite models I've seen.

Pretty much everything but the Build mkII and the Qubeley Papillion are solid kits, if a little sticker heavy. They're all made by recycling other HGs (well except for the Build Strike, kind of) so you kind of expect that anyways. The MGs are all much better, but only the Build Strike and the Sengoku are out at the moment. Beginning is pretty much the Turn A of HG, it has an oddly unique construction. Again if you want it, get it, but it's not going to prepare you for other HGs beyond the usual "this is how you get parts off the runner" stuff.
