There are other's in this thread who can help you more, but... as just a regular old rap fan, DJ Screw's tape "3 in tha mornin' Part 2" is really the only one I actually play regularly. It's really a masterpiece, end-to-end. Otherwise just find an albumn you like, and find the Michael '5000' Watts C&S version. I remember liking the Chamillionaire, Paul Wall, and Mike Jones ones.

This is pretty much on point. OG Ron C did Chamillionaire's first mainstream album, and it did let me know there are different types of Chopped and Screwed. OG Ron C is more like Screw, he chops entire verses. DJ 5000 Watts is good, but definitely different than what exists. His C&S mix of Already Platinum is so good that just talking about it is gonna make me turn it on now.

Return of 4Eva is one of my favorites, by Michael 5000 Watts. It helps that it was such an awesome tape to begin with.

Also, I heard a Meek Mill song on the radio the other day that I'd never heard before. Kinda had a weird beat and he was just kinda goin on and on about poo poo not really rapping, per se. Any help on a song name?

Hope this is Ok for all this youtube spam, just want to post a

:siren: Massive youtube post if you have that poo poo enabled (you probably already do :D) :siren:

His catalog is loving huge. I still haven't gone through all of it. A good amount of his songs are just screwed, he doesn't chop all the time but when he does he crossfades that poo poo for like a minute straight. Sometimes its really, really good, other times it can be pretty meh. He sometimes detunes songs and give them a really weird, almost psychedelic vibe. A lot of his songs are very lengthy, its screwed after all. And he loves repeating whole verses. Don't be surprised for 9+ minute songs. He generally screwed whoever was big at the time with an obvious emphasis on Texas.

If you don't care about DJ Screw but want to hear up to date chops Michael 5000 Watts has Swishahouse Sundays from 9-11 pm on 97.9 The Box.

Also everyday around 12~ pm central they have a couple of DJs come in and play some 2000's classics and half the time they're chopped up. Its pretty cool hearing that poo poo on the radio.

Anyways here's a lot of DJ Screw stuff. I'm just gonna post some of my most memorable ones. I haven't really listened to him in years.

My favorite is 3 in the Morning pt 2 (some of his best work condensed into an album) but a close second is All Screwed Up volume 2. Tell Me Something Good by UGK mixed with Art of Noise - Moments in Love is my favorite Screw jam.

Yeah thats the stuff I'm talking about. IDK if its from slowing down the song in general or something else but its very distinctive and fits well with how hosed up the songs are in general. Have no clue when it comes to this music stuff so what do i know

Change of gears here, but what has One.Be.Lo. been up to? Has he released anything since the excellent L.A.B.O.R.? He's been one of my Top 5 emcees since I first heard Binary Star, still is. Has some of the best verses I've ever heard.

I wasn't a big fan of labor-it seemed like a weaker version of his earlier stuff. I didn't know the Binary Star album actually came out-I heard a couple tracks that were ok but didn't really grab me.

He's another dude I thought was gonna blow up-after I heard sonogram I thought for sure he'd at least get a look by some label (at the time, being able to rap wasn't considered a negative). I also heard vague rumors of something happening so idk.

Other dudes I thought were gonna blow up: Ras Kass, Thirstin Howl III, J-Zone, Apathy, Cage. I had way too much faith in people's taste, it seems.

First, early Ras Kass was a beast. Even a bit after his jail stint he was good. He could've had a career as someone like Del or one of the Freestyle Fellowship dudes, but he wanted to be a superstar and ended up flopping.

And that's the thing-those weren't just random dudes I liked (although I liked them all), it was dudes I though had something that was also able to translate. Ras Kass had Dre production on his first album, and was getting known around the time Xzibit and the Alkoholiks dudes were starting to get some national attention out west. He was a natural fit.

Thirsten Howl III, I started listening to his stuff around the time Pun was coming up, and Fat Joe was getting some shine, so I figured Puerto Rican dude + unique style = gold (I was wrong).

Apathy and Cage were both dudes in the Eminem vein on a superficial level. Apathy did end up signed to some major (but never released his album) and Cage went to DefJux when it was about as popular as an underground label could be on top of his dalliances with Kudi and that Shia Lebouf dude so I wasn't totally off-base about them, but they're obv not super mainstream dudes.

J-Zone was a less grandiose/self-conscious, more smartass early Kanye. I think had he gotten started a few years later his stuff would've went over a lot better.

Are you serious? Ras Kass was absolutely incredible. His first two albums are like loving magic they're so good, and not just for lyrics/punchlines either. And plus all the stuff alansmithee said, I wonder if Van Gough would've gotten a release if we'd be having a different conversation today.

You're entitled to your opinion, so I'm not mad or anything, but it's just crazy to me that you can actually really listen to those 90s Ras Kass albums and think "this is not good".

Assuming one was released last year, there's actually 3 Binary Star albums (Waterworld, Masters of the Universe, 2013 release).

Also, i'm a bit hesitant in saying Ras Kass' albums were good. Dude so wanted to be the next big superstar that there was a definite lack of quality on some of the tracks. But his lyrics were astounding at times.

Also since we're talking about superlyricists who constantly underperform, Lupe apparently has a song out with Ty Dollar $ign and it's just horrible. Like, it would've fit in on Lasers-that's how bad it is. Haven't listened to that track with Ab-Soul yet but I'm unfortunately not too excited for anything dude does in the future (at least until proven otherwise). Dude's becoming almost as bad as Canibus in terms of garbage beats and technically-good-but-garbage-content rhymes.
