You can also just pop a keyboard shortcut on expand! Though now I've swapped to manga studio 5, the select tool is clever enough to not need it.

Fair enough (though all my expand-fill-deselect actions are keyboard shortcuts). If you JUST want to expand, just pare it down to the cone command. I like to be able to do all three things with one button, though.

Fancy sweater vests for all!
So I've made a startling revelation:

I've still been living in the early 2000s. I say this because I was doing everything possible to keep my comic page sizes below 100kb, I only realized I seem to be the only one doing this when I tried to read the tiny text in the latest Widdershins update and discovered the size.

A quick review of other comics I read proved this.

So once again thanks Kojiro for teaching me something without even trying.

So I come into this thread and people are talking about using the magic wand and expanding the selection for colouring.

This is not a good idea. You are all doing it wrong. Sure, it might work, but it's a bad habit to get into.

If you're going to use the wand tool at all, you need to do the reverse. Lasso around the character, then wand out the white background and contract a couple pixels on the lineart layer. Now you have a full figure filled with colour. Flat the figure properly.

I have worked as a professional flatter for several years. Make sure to flat your comics properly, people, as it will make colouring easier and make it easier to make changes to your colours.

Is there a tutorial that shows how to flat correctly? (without wanding)

This one by Roos Hughes does a pretty good job of explaining what I mean.

http://www.fanboybuzz.com/vb/showthread.php?2345-Flatting-101-Tutorial

You always want to have full colours underneath the black areas and it's just more convenient to select a given area of colour when it's all connected, as opposed to having to select a bunch of different bits that are separated by lines.

Also, hey, I finished two more pages.

Yeah so, I think its high time I started doing illustrations or something to help spread my webcomic.

This is a mockup I did for one of my ideas, but I think I will change it.

BtFoH is the initials of my webcomic, the full title will be posted later on.

Why would you want to promote your webcomic but not also want to share the full name of the comic?

I don't think the promotion has begun yet, at least that's what I assumed. I thought the post was more of a "So I'm gonna start promoting my comic soon, here's a quick thingie of what I might do," looking at us as peers/colleagues as opposed to potential readers/audience

This way we get to guess what the comic is called!

Baiting the Fetishists of Horses

Boiling the Frankfurters of Heaven

Briefing the Freudians on Hoohahs

Battle the Farts of Horror

Bomb the gently caress (out) of Hiroshima

Bitter the Fruits of Heroism

This sounds really bad, friend. I don't think any amount of money would be worth hitching your wagon to a horse set on drowning itself.

I warned you. It's bound to cause outrage but its got a good heart at the center. Also I love all of the characters and have developed them fully, even the strawmen. Their descriptions are meant to be stereotypical but you'll soon see that they're all as human as cartoons could be.

Out of curiosity, how much are you willing to pay per page?

I feel bad doing an April Fool's update when I don't do regular updates enough. I always say "next year it'll be different" :smith:

Supposing it ever does befall me that I get the chance, I'd love to do a gag strip of "Paleozoic Era" where all the characters are tiiktalik roseae :shobon:

Or something simpler where I just say "Hay folx the comic now takes place present day and is going to be about video games bye." Tho I feel that might be an overdone one.

I always want to do an April Fools joke, and it's even on one of my update days this year, but I can't think of anything except one thing that's probably too mean spirited and would cause an entire rabid fanbase to destroy me. So I'm just going to waste the idea by showing you guys and hopefully coming up with something else.

I was thinking of doing, like, a false start gag, like, pretending that my first story was up and running but have it be utter nonsense, but I feel like that may shoot me in the foot later if I don't actually hit my deadline/ true release date I was going to put at the end and I may betray the trust of some of the people who follow my tumblr who have been wanting to see it for some time now.

Nah just kidding, its nothing special when you get down to it.

Speaking of which:

This is the uncolored illustration I am doing at the moment. This may not be even the end of the inking, since I don't like as it is right now.

It was based on this old thing I did

I will post the finished version once its doen and then we can properly begin.

OH, you mean like this?

Supa Bloom Edition

Yeah, I already colored it in with watercolor and acrylics. I still scanned the original uncolored B&W so no worries about that.

Speaking of which, I should propably get started.

That Φ is the suplement of F, in BtFoH, which stands for Beneath the Fields of Heaven (The Greek is relevant). Its the name of the project I am working on which hasn't started yet, and the illustration is one of many I plan to do for it. I am still practicing on my comic making skills and I plan my work here for critique

I do not know where to take it from here, so feel free to ask any questions.

Good art is inspiring. :kamina: Honestly, that is what I love most about people in this thread. Everyone is doing their own thing, and that's rare and amazing. For every original idea, there are 20 billion pokemon fanfics that'll gain more popularity, just because people don't want to see new stuff. That is what you should be sad about.
