I thought HnC was a purely partisan political cartoon, is this a first time that it comments on a non-political matter? There isn't even any "evil Iranians with stolen passports" angle to it. This is even lazier than the usual "Obama bad" dreck.

No, when his dog died, he did do a couple (actually somewhat good and non-hateful) ones about how he missed her, and was feeling sad about it. Didn't even talk about Obama eating her or anything.

Oh my god Allie shut the gently caress up.

That is a pretty far leap to make just to pull the "Dems are the real racists" card. But see he isn't really doing it, just making an oblique reference to it and kinda hoping his dumbass readers will automatically fill in the blanks. "Ohhhh I didn't say that the Democrats of today were racist, just that what they're doing reminds me of something a racist Dem back in the day did! Look I drew a white kid in there what do you want?!??" So if someone were to question him about it he could probably still deny that's what he was saying.

I would have to complement the clever trolling if he wasn't such an absolute fucker. It's brilliant, actually.

If it makes you feel any better, Allie didn't come up with that. He took that line from Bobby "Stupid Party" Jindal's CPAC Speech.

"Oh the smell of it" is from the famous ads for Calvin Klein's Obsession from 1987! Thank God! It was driving me crazy trying to figure out what the gently caress that was supposed to be a reference to.

Have no idea about the rest of it though.

I assume the point is to make it look a child's drawing only you have the weird juxtaposition of political opinions in a child's drawing, which is where the humor would presumably come from. This might work if the guy actually managed to emulate a child's drawing. Instead it looks like he is actually giving it his all, so we get the scrawling of a manchild. Also, the jokes don't really work as "Oh a political take on child's art." This Asay is sorta what the Nuts guy is TRYING to do (or at least I loving hope he's trying to do):

He just absolutely fails at it because the dude is filled with hate and would rather call Obama a big gaymo than actually write a decent joke.

I've been surprised at the paucity of written material out there on the subject of the second Bush Administration's fuckups in Latin America. There was a huge opportunity for a friendly and mutually beneficial relationship, which Bush promptly squandered with childish diplomatic snubs and aggravatingly stupid moves that destroyed popular opinion of the U.S., eliminating any hope of FTAA passing and helping to turn the region pinker than J. Edgar Hoover caught wearing a wedding dress. Hopefully I'll have a point in my career where I can write a decent-length book on the subject before someone else does.

That's the stark horror of Asay comics. He's not a troll like Gary McCoy who draws the people he hates as hideous and disgusting as he possibly can. Asay draws everyone in the same sympathetic, cartoony style and expects the audience to become enraged or sickened at their very existence.

Consider:

Nothing about the second image implies or even hints that the children are any worse off. You're just supposed to see two men taking care of children and recoil at the unnatural abomination before your eyes.

pizza sucks

I think it's especially easy for 'conservative cartoonists'. Since most papers feel the need to 'balance' both sides, in this weird political dichotomy. I think it'd be really easy to just crap out some 'conservative cartoons'. I've often wondered how easy it'd be to invent a nom de plume, churn out these hateful talking points, and donate all the money made by them to charity. The art bar seems lower than most good webcomics.

(Basically I'm saying being a Glenn McCoy/Allie but for charity...)

D.N. Nation posted:

When de Blasio ran for mayor, he said he would slow the growth of charters and would charge them rent, based on their ability to pay. In the closing months of the Bloomberg administration, the city's Department of Education approved 45 new co-locations. A co-location is a new school inserted into an existing public school, meaning that different schools must share the cafeteria, library, playground, and give up its art room, music room, and every other space that is not an active classroom. Public school parents hate co-locations, because it means overcrowding, jostling for space, and reduction of facilities.

The new mayor, having inherited 45 co-locations, decided to approve 36 of them. This disappointed many public school parents. The mayor turned down only nine co-locations.

The de Blasio administration rejected the nine based on these criteria:

It would not approve putting an elementary school into a high school.
It would not open any school with less than 250 students because the school would be too small to meet the needs of students.
It would not approve any co-locations that required heavy construction.
It would not approve any co-location that dislocated students with disabilities. The neediest kids would not be shoved aside to make room for other students.
The nine schools that were turned down did not meet these criteria.

Of 17 charter schools that applied, 14 were approved.

Got a source for this, or any legit site to check out about de Blasio related controversies? My dad absolutely despises him and if you heard one of his rants on the subject you'd mistake him for a Freeper. Basically he's super left wing and was a Hilary supporter(why he hates Obama and anyone associated with him) and thinks Palin was only maligned in the media because she's a woman.(slightly accurate, but there are still plenty of other reasons to hate Palin.)
