Depends on what your objective is. If you just want the aircraft, the passengers are a nuisance and a threat. If you want to get somewhere without being shot out of the sky, they're a bargaining chip. Check out the "sky-jackings" of the 1970s and 1980s.

my own spooky, slightly-crazy theory is a suicide with a purpose. Pilot is ready to die, but doesn't want it to look like a suicide. He makes it look like the plane just mysteriously vanished in some kind of "asian triangle", living on in legend, never to be seen again. He makes sure of it by sneaking it out into the middle of nowhere in the south indian ocean far from any likely search areas before going down.

He doesn't know about the military radar and satellites picking up what he did, for all he knows we're still looking around in the China sea for months and years before giving up.

You have to feel sorry for the families. They're going to be desperately hoping that those aboard are still alive even though it would make no sense for hijackers to keep them alive.

And I can't think of a Western leader who would have been able to say "we think the plane was hijacked" without actually using the word.

quote:

He makes sure of it by sneaking it out into the middle of nowhere in the south indian ocean far from any likely search areas before going down.

The problem with that theory is their fuel range. From the maps I saw, the flight couldn't have made it that far - the "outside" range seemed around the north west of Australia, well within our heavily patrolled migration exclusion zone.

And yeah, it seems strange that you'd intentionally try to avoid the location of your flight being known if you were planning to just crash it into the ocean anyway (unlike the 11 September flights where there was a theoretical possibility of being shot down if their flight paths became apparent before they reached their targets).

so, perhaps he doesn't want to just nosedive in the ocean. If he does that, there will be debris, the wreck and black box will be found, and they'll figure it out.

If it is a suicide, then that apparently matters, for some reason.

Malaysia flight MH370: Pitbull song lyrics bear uncanny resemblance to missing plane mystery:http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...ry-9189228.html

Lyrics include 'Two passports, three cities, two countries, one day'<...>Pitbull's lines include 'Now it's off to Malaysia' and 'Two passports, three cities, two countries, one day'.

Watch Shakira/Pitbul video.

At 2:33 it flashed quickly scene with bus and on it there is graphic of TRIDENT with King and Snake.

Trident has been in news non-stop.Ukraine Coat of Arms is Trident,Two SEALs that overdosed on ship worked for Trident group,Navy commander found dead in Orange Park,FL went to Trident Academy,Maserati ad during Superbowl for first time and their logo is Trident.
Even Malaysia logo is bird that looks like Trident on side.
King might refer to prince William who "coincidentally" is having vacation in Maldivi, not that far from disappeared plane.
Snake represents Satan.

Shakira is 37 years old,Pitbull is 33 years old.

Flight number was MH370 on flight that suppose to be 3700 kilometers.

If you multiply 3x7x37 you get 777 as Boeing 777.
Flight MH370.....M is 13th letter,H is 8th (8+13=21),again multipley 21 with 37 and you get 777.

33 is number of SACRIFICE and not sure what 37 should be BUT

Last year Asiana crash in California was also Boeing 777,crashed in SF which is on 37th degree and flew from Soul which is on 37.33 degree while killing 3 Chinese girls.

Fukushima power plant disaster also occurred in March 2011 on 37th degree in Japan with 37 injuries.

Coincidentally Air France 447 crash near Brazil was on 3.03 degree and almost on exact same north parallel as disappearance of MH370.

Which honestly might be better than surviving for 10 minutes on oxygen masks and having time to realise that the oxygen is going to run out and you're going to die anyway.

The information I can find says that passengers would feel "disoriented" within about 10 seconds, progressing to unconsciousness and then death (assuming decompression isn't explosive). Sounds like a speeded up version of altitude sickness.

So I have to go at this in reverse because I normally think about these things with regards to increasing pressure underwater. I'd say a rapid depressurization would not kill you, because it's not even one atmosphere worth of pressure. If they were at 40,000 feet and breathing outside air they would be hypoxic but would probably make it a few minutes before passing out. Their ppO2 would be way too low but not immediate death low, maybe sooner because of how fast they'd be breathing.

E: Unless your sinuses were really congested bleeding ears probably would not happen. The body adjusts to depressurization pretty naturally. Yawning and general sluggishness for sure though.

You are not going to go straight from normal cabin pressure to 40K unless you have some kind of structural failure, which would be explosive decompression, and that's a lot more violent, and loss of consciousness is very rapid. In a scenario like I think you and the guy above are asking about, the loss of pressure would be less rapid, so light headedness, tingly fingers, euphoria sometimes, then a nap. Never heard of anyone having a suffocating feeling.

Yeah all things considered, hypoxia would not be the worst way to meet death. Getting high on 100% O2 as you accept your fate might be better though YMMV.

The presser was weird in that the PM said that the evidence suggests the plane disappeared because of deliberate actions by someone on the plane but right at the end when mentioning media reports of a hijacking pretty much waffled around the issue and said they don't know what happened (factual, of course) before mentioning where they'll now be focusing their search efforts.

I guess it's a matter of semantics, to some degree. "Hijacking" implies someone other than the pilots taking control of an aircraft for a purpose other than simply killing themselves and they don't really have any good theories about other reasons why someone might have taken control of the plane at the moment - or at least none which make any sense.
