It's fine. The store is getting a reasonable rate on the boosters but everyone should be happy with this arrangement.

One 10-player draft pod or...? How many rounds? Seems good if you can reliably make top 4, but pretty meh if you don't. You're effectively just paying the price for 4 boosters.

My LGS runs drafts with varying numbers, lately it's struggled to get enough to fire (I guess no one likes BNG or Theros?), charges $16, and payouts depend on attendance. More people means more people get paid out. From a monetary sense it seems great for the store, not great for us. Your $15 draft sounds like the promised land.

I'm doing Odyssey block draft tonight at my LGS, anyone have any tips at all beyond being aware of the # of cards in your yard? I know generally from looking at the sets that 4 toughness seems to be ideal for blockers and that blue is almost certainly one of the strongest colors given that looting is like value++++++++++++ in this block, and there are some seriously good looters.

It gives Threshold pretty much on demand, and they can almost never profitably block it. IDK. I last drafted that block when it was Standard legal, so I don't really remember that much.

Edit: Wild Mongrel is also pretty busted.

Torment is a very heavily black set, and Judgment has more W/G cards, so keep that in mind when reading signals.

Also, Phantom cards are absurd. As is Elephant Guide. As is Elephant Guide on a Phantom.

Wild Mongrel and Arrogant Wurm, IIRC, are really good. Also drafting black is weird because it's dense pack 2 and weak pack 3, as opposed to White/Green which are weak pack 2 but strong pack 3. This means that you'll want to cut black really strongly pack 1 if you want a solid B/X deck.

I'm pretty sure it's possible to draft U/G Madness and laugh all the way to the bank.

Thinking about it more, you should really just try to go green, because it rewards knowing what you're doing signal-wise and has some of the most powerful cards in all of the packs. Blue and/or Black might technically be more powerful, but U/G is quite good and Black will be screwed up by people that don't know how Torment works.

That is correct.

Yeah, from looking at stuff I was tending toward either blue white skies with all the really sick walls and tappers and looters, green white phantom stuff because phantom is just obviously broken if you know how it works but a lot of people misread it as remove that many counters, and blue green also seems fairly strong in the same white white blue does. I'm planning on avoiding black and it seems like red it just sort of bad which makes sense because the set is old as heck.

Well, I just woke up from hanging out with the SCG Seattle Legacy top 8- 6 of the 8 all play at the same LGS and we got a huge chunk of our players (15!) in the top 32.

I completely tanked the standard open, starting 4-1-1 before having the wheels fall off and ending 4-4-2 for 203rd. I was lucky enough, however, to be Andrew Shrout's test rat for his first deck tech with SCG, piloting skinwalkers, as you can See in the deck tech here- we were both quite nervous, but it went okay.

As for the legacy open, I told myself I wasn't going to go with P-Jund this time around, and was pretty set on showing up with RUG Delver, but I had been practicing Deathblade for the past couple weeks. In the end, I sleeved up Deathblade, and ended up playing some of the best magic I've ever played and finished at 7-2, good for 15th. I was primed for top 8 until I ran into one of the 2 manaless dredge players at the top tables (:stare:), but ended up dreamcrushing Ledbetter (The featured Alluren player) in the last round during my first feature match. It was pretty rough for him, though- he mulled to 5 game one, and I drew the near nuts game 2

In all, it was a pretty good weekend of magic for me :unsmith:

Also, for the record regarding Henry Romero- I've never had a good experience with him, whether it be me playing him or watching friends play him- He is quite the arrogant prick. I believe the DCI forced him to re-register as his initial registration him listed as H TO THE E TO THE N-R-Y ROMERO. No lie.

I know it's a page back, but I'd go -4 Foundry Street Denizens, +4 Firefist Strikers, -2 Satyr Firedancers, main deck 2 skullcrack, and +1 Hammer of Purphoros, +2 Sideboard Hammer of purphoros, -2 Searing Blood, +3 Anger of the Gods.

Here's what you'll end up with:

Creatures (28)
4 Ash Zealot
4 Boros Reckoner
4 Burning-Tree Emissary
4 Chandra's Phoenix
4 Fanatic of Mogis
4 Firefist Striker
4 Rakdos Cackler

Spells (12)
4 Lightning Strike
4 Magma Jet
2 Shock
2 Skullcrack

Enchantments (1)
1 Hammer of Purphoros

Lands (21)
21 Mountain

Sideboard (15)
2 Chandra, Pyromaster
2 Searing Blood
2 Skullcrack
4 Mizzium Mortars
2 Hammer of Purphoros
3 Anger of the Gods

If you have them, run 3 mutavaults instead of mountains, too. They are value after you have to cast Anger of the Gods, or for two extra damage if the board is fairly clear.

Alternately, you can run 4 Firedancers instead of ash zealots, as the zealots play badly with BTEs.

Never run your cacklers unleashed. With this deck, you should be swinging every turn, never holding back, and only casting instants or sorceries on your opponents' turn.

I like to throw in a gore-house chainwalker, as the difference between running 60 or 61 cards is basically nil, RE: Manascrew.

Hammers are obvious to include, yes, but for more than just haste: they're devotion towards a Fanatic, as well.

My best play with this deck ever was on the draw, t1: Cackler unleashed, t2: BTE-BTE-BTE-Firefist Striker, swing Cackler for 2, T3: Reckoner, swing all for 10, T4: Fanatic of Mogis for 12 damage and the win.

Thanks for the advice I may have to give this a shot.
Edit: and I'm too poor for Mutavaults.

The mass card adder/cart optimizer is just useless at this point. They never taught it not to give you a bunch of < $1 carts that you aren't allowed to buy, for instance.

Personally, I try to pick out some of the "long poles" in the order to establish what shops I'll be piling most of the stuff on, then fill in the order around them. "Filter by 4 or more" is handy for that.

Agreed. It's not "just vapor", there's ample evidence otherwise (besides common sense...you're inhaling something other than "just vapor" and your lungs aren't perfect 100% efficiency filters), and they gently caress up my lungs whenever someone uses them around me. I just complained about it to the store owner, as did some other people, and he was happy to ban them from the shop; he actually uses one himself, so it was really cool of him.
