Does that red on the doors extend all around to the rear as well? Looks pretty wild. I just remembered there's matching shifter/ebrake boots if there's not enough matching color in there for you. And red side/dash panels! (instead of those gray pieces), but I'm not sure they're the same color.

I quite like the way it is to be honest, I think the black contrasts nicely with the red and prevents it from being over done. Problem is now is when I inevitably replace it years down the line with a newer Mini, its going to have to be a full leather interior as well. Anything else would be a step down.

I am having problems with my ST that I know the dealer is not going to be able to reproduce, I'm kinda hoping these periodic problems turn into a huge issue so they can find it. A few days ago I couldn't get the car into reverse. The lockout ring was fine, I could swing the shifter to the reverse side but I couldn't push up into reverse gear. I rolled the car out of the parking spot, then drove a few blocks. At each stop I tried to get it into reverse and it refused to go into reverse until about the 5th stop sign, then it was okay. Haven't been able to reproduce that one but occasionally I'm not able to put the car into first gear unless I first drop it into second. Another issue is it feels like the clutch is fighting to go into most gears, especially third gear. It feels clunky as hell and that I am probably loving the synchros up every time I have to shift into it. This is my 4th standard so I don't think it's my driving patterns. I saw someone on one of the ST forums actually had to have his tranny, master and slave cylinder replaced with redesigned parts so I am wondering if mine is in the same boat.

Focus or Fiesta ST? If it's a Focus, I have not seen reports of widespread issues with transmissions. Either way, probably 95% of STs on the road are within the 30k mile power and drivetrain warranty, so why don't you bring it to a reputable Ford dealer and tell them what has been happening?
|
# ? Mar 18, 2014 00:23 |

Occasionally I won't be able to get it into reverse or first without brute force but if I let the clutch out in neutral then reengage and try again it works fine. I feel like thats a normal thing because I've had it happen on almost every manual I've ever driven.

Clarkson was right about the engine in his review of the mk5 gti. There really isn't a wrong gear to be in at any speed for the most part. Handling is exceptional for a FWD vehicle as well even if it likes to set the tires on fire in the first few gears with traction control turned off.

If I'm passing I'm going from 6th to 3rd and when cruising I pretty much always just go 4-6.

It's not quite the same thing, but the Focus ST manual states that for optimum mileage I should shift into 5th at 41mph, and into 6th at 42mph.

That probably explains why the shift indicator in the instrument cluster is so ridiculous. "What, you're going 35 and not in fifth gear?! SHIFT UP!!"

It's less pronounced in my Focus, there is actually power left over above 50ish MPH in fifth, and I'm not at 3k RPM doing 70mph in 6th like I was with the 1.8T.

I haven't tested this yet, on the Focus ST, is there a thing where if I leave the car idling but without the key inside, it shuts down if someone tries to drive off with it? Also is there a way to make it not honk at me when I do walk away from it with the key?

I've always found the same with 6 speeds, but I have found on some winding roads 5th is just perfect, and if I'm in 6th I'll need to keep going back to 4th, but staying in 4th isn't practical. One of the worst offenders I've found are 4x4s, the new 6 speed landrovers are still revving their tits off at motorway speeds. By that I mean 85mph, banging off the speed limiter. Admittedly they would still be noisy as hell with a Prius drivetrain.

God damnit - I went to Philly last weekend and got my FiST keyed within an hour of parking I guess I'm just going to try to touch it up and blend it? I haven't tried to fix a key before. It's a 2 year lease so I don't care THAT much, I just want to fix it enough so I don't get dicked when I turn it in.

Ah, my shithole home town strikes again. Run your nail across the key mark, if you feel it catch you can't buff it out but honestly from the pics you can tell it's hosed. Someone keyed my last lease on the driver side door about a foot long, they didn't charge me at the end of the lease for the damage.

I'm using it right now for cruising and lazy passing on the two lane 100km/h roads. I do mainly 6-4 though for most cases. If anything 1st is annoying on this car. Its a really short gear and you want to immediately be out of it to get some speed, but starting in second requires too much clutch. It does make nice noises though

I got the Accessport today and just finished installing it. I have to say that was kind of tense. There was one point were MFT went completely black and then a window came up saying "Key not detected" and nothing happened for what felt like forever, but was probably 5 or 10 seconds. I have only took it for one short drive so far, and it feels 'uncapped', but it's not delivering smooth power when I accelerate in 3rd gear or above. Its like it 'hiccups' randomly. I'm attributing this to being a brand new install and the car just re-learning. If it keeps up I will reinstall the map. I have read some reports that 1st gear is unusable with the 91 oct install, but it seemed to me that as long as you don't mash it that it isn't unbearable. I'm off to drive some more, and look for that bit I need to replace the air filter with this cobb one. 1791apparel- I think the FoST does use 8mm bolts to access the air filter. On the FoST, it looks like a screw-head with 'torx' bit.

After 11.5 months waiting, it's here! lovely iPhone photos because I'm lazy. Glad I had the "A45 4MATIC //AMG" badges removed - they look retarded. It is hilarious. It pops, crackles, snaps, cracks, farts, whatever. Sounds great, is stupidly fast, blah blah blah. I'm not sure if I find the sound more enjoyable than the speed... probably, since I haven't really had a chance to open it up yet. Good times. I'm already planning to get the rest of the roof wrapped in black to match the sunroof...

Lancia goes to be inspected on Monday. GT4 WRC is at the Toyota dealership near my office getting brakes and steering pump seen to. Then there's just the carb rebuild on the Clubman GT and we're laughing. Unfortunately I have to go to work (loving 31st of March) but I'll make it bearable by going and seeing Ayrton Senna's MP4/4 at the Auckland McLaren dealership, also just up the road.

Finally got the Cobb drop in filter installed, and after a morning of driving around I no longer have any hesitations about having bought the AP. The low/mid range torque gains are fantastic, and it really feels like the car has just improved in all ranges without really effecting mpg. In combination with the air filter it also gave the car more noticeable turbo sound.

Box is back on. The Cobb air filter is about half as tall as stock, so maybe it was muffling things some? It's nothing like a BOV, but driving with the windows down on a rural road, the sound is quite a bit more noticeable than before.

I stuff a glove between the liner and the roof until it warms up enough to properly fix it, and this has mostly shut up the rattles. Recently the dash has also started rattling a little on the left side of the My Ford Tough display panel. A little push on the plastic surround shuts it up for awhile. Just something to randomly try for your MP3 issues. My BMW's head unit did the same thing, and I've seen lots of complaining about getting MP3's to sort correctly. Even brand new MP3's downloaded from Amazon would still not order correctly. Try downloading a tagging program, and make sure they're all perfectly tagged with the current standards. I won't be at my home PC for a while, but the program I used set everything to 3.1 AND 3.2 (the version of the MP3 tagging standard or something). Ever since doing that to each of my albums on my USB stick, everything works perfectly. I'm assuming head units only seem to decode the MP3 data according to a very specific standard, and it's probably something different than your particular MP3's are tagged as.
